Would love to, but your pm box overflows ... p.s. will try an e-mail later today when all files are uploaded. Ah, dammit.
  3. No, apparently not. Not yet anyways. Better try again tomorrow, just to be sure.
  4. I'm inclined to say not Bird, but in that case it's a Bird imitator who is way further along than most in terms of tone and enunciation. Still, there are enough moments where the "not-Birdness" is obvious. I do like those changes ot April though. Can't say that I've ever heard those exact substitutions. "amateur" is too strong for me. The trumpet player is still struggling some, but the rhythm section is pretty much solid in a "local" kind of way. Drums & bass in aprticular sound like they're seasoned more than just a teense. That quote of "You're In the Army Now" towards the end of SGB suggests maybe a jam session between some army players & civillians, or something like that. An interesting find overall, imo, even if it's not Bird. Maybe it's Eric Dolphy at the Five Spot?
  5. Yep. Listen to a few of the tunes, you hear this weird doubling effect. That's it.
  6. The music on those LPs might be more than 50 years old, but the LPs were not issued until somewhere in the 1970s.

  8. And now you have one! I like that record quite a bit, actually.

  10. What we're seeing here is that people jumped on the chance to get this material in this comprehensive form when they had the chance. If you weren't around then, this is your chance.
  11. I don't think so. I can't find any BN date he actually plays on (he not listed anywhere in the index of the big BN discography I've got). Now Horace Parlin DID record the Boykins tune "Home is Africa" -- but Boykins wasn't on the date. For some reason I was thinking he was on a BN date somewhere, but I guess not...
  12. Where is Biddy Fleet when you need him?
  13. Oh yeah. It was a '70s LP box thing. The Mosaic is the way to go now.
  14. Kurt Weil Lotte Lenya Lucy Brown
  15. Enough said. I'll hold for now. You have the Bluebird box too? I mean, the music is terrific. "Essential" in a lot of places, more so than many Mosaic sets, I think. The only reason I'm loathe to replace my Bluebird set is the accompanying book, which is as good as it gets, imo. Outstanding notes by Dan Morgenstern & some really cool photographs as well. I've taken really good care of these LPs, the packaging is fantastic, and I don't "upgrade" from vinyl to CD just to be "upgrading". so I'm standing pat. But when Last Chance rolls around, the materialist in me might go for the "object", if I can afford it. Otherwise, that's one more for the rest of y'all. So carpe diem. Make no mistake - unless you have a severe case of cranius en recti about pre-"bop" jazz (and some of this stuff is in the process of climbing the fence, especially where Hamp is concerned), this set will not disappoint and may very well thrill in quite a few places. Hopefully, that's enough said!

  20. Yeah, when that record spins around, it's pretty nasty.
