  1. The tree basically called on all collectors and they collated the results. I don't know of any of it that wasn't already a known quantity back in the days of cassettes and goodwill. A lot of this stuff, including most of the 60s tour with Trane, has been "available" for a while, long before the internet. I say "available" because once upon a time, you had to cultivate relationships with individuals just to get a foot in the door of maybe asking somebody for something...and hardcore people would demand material in return. Beginners not allowed. Dime and stuff like that killed most (but not all!) of that, and maybe not for the better, but shit like Paris 60 with trane...before it was made official (or even semi-official, like the Trema) ..not everybody appreciates that, ok? To them, it's just another gig. And it's not just another gig. For too long material like this has been cheapened just like any other common whore, there it is, pay your bit of random pocket money, use it and then move on. Or even worse, here it is, take all you want and then come get some more. Something like that (and others like it) deserve more than that. If people don't love it, they shouldn't come after it, and they for damn sure shouldn't have it as part of some random act of gluttony. If that's "elitist" or something, so be it. I stand firm on it.
  2. I heard him live with whatever name of the Directions group that he was in was called, and they played changes/structures in some form or fashions all night, including "I Love You" to end the set. So maybe New Directions Live In Europe as well?
  3. https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fagatronics I know...
  4. Took...I don't think that any of it's still active, but I jinkyflunked the link, just in case. The sum of that tree, though, from the Duffy's Tavern gig that was supposedly chick's ver first night all the way to whenever it was...there's an arc there, no two gigs are the same, and the introduction of the Rhodes from a sometimes thing to an always thing (except for the one time when it was supposed to be ther but wan't, and Chick had to play material from Bitches Brew on acoustic!!!!) is a thing of wonder. That group really does deserve a full E2E treatment. Maybe in the second half of the 21st century. But...nothing like the Grateful Dead (for whom I have no use). This was a (then) totally undocumented band who was changing the course of a certain music almost nightly. And it's still not adequately documented for general consumption, imo. DOH! add that one to the list as well. There was another "tree" of that tour. Many shows were excellent or better, but that one is one for the ages. Monumental, thanks to Trane Unfiltered.
  5. There were a lot...there was also a "tree" of what was then all known recordings, in chronological order. https://milestreesxxx.blogspotxxx.com/ and yes, add that Filmore thing with Wayne to my list. It was NOT in the tree because it wsa not the quintet.
  6. Dick Hitt Richard Hatt Jim Kaat
  7. "God Only Know" is not better than I think it is...
  8. "squawkly, squally" is not the same thing as "outside"... Especially at this point!
  9. These are the ones I would go to the grave with. Legit: Agarta/Pangea Miles In Europe The Newport set that split an album with Monk (or Jazz At The Plaza, if it means that much to you) Live/Evil and maybe that one that Blue Note put out, the airhot with Lockjaw & Big Nick Bootlegs: The Lost Quintet Tree Black Satin

  11. https://secondhandsongs.com/work/2427/versions#nav-entity Covers of "God Only Knows"...people seem to struggle to come to terms with the whole of that song... There is an "interesting" cover by a German(?) band called The Jay Five, who appear to have a bit of a cult following these days? And Andy Williams...his version on Columbia is just...bad. But to his credit (I guess…) he worked it out and did it live in such a way that he could phrase it with his accompaniment. But still...people fuck up that song a whole lot. It's one of those harder-than-you-might-think things.
  12. Thanks, not surprised. That was a pretty deep catalog...Yusef documented himself very fully.

  14. Is that on the YAL label?
  15. I know, Steve Coleman, supposed to cancel him, etc. So, ok Steve Coleman, your dick fucked up your morality. Shame on you, you monster. There, cancelled. But this is a damn good record of a damn good band.
  16. Randy Renalte - Everything Happened After That
  17. I never heard Joe "going outside". He was just playing the tenor. It can do that, you know.
  18. Jean Norman Presents - Just Desserts (Straight To The Hip) An ill-fated (but not totally undocumented) spinoff of the Jazz Meets Poetry movement was this - jazz meets recipes. Jean has a very sexy voice, and a good rhythm, but her backing band is not up to the task of sounding delicious. It was a common problem in the genre, and was probably the main reason for its failure to gain popular acceptance.
  19. Honestly, I've found his "heated" stuff to quite often enough be "heady". Of course, there were times, in retrospect, where he was kinda coasting, for whatever reason. But that's something else altogether.
  20. Are you coming around to Joe more these days, Larry?
  21. Rita Rudner again! Dammit, every time I look for this time tomorrow, it's just today. Got any tips?
  22. Ilhan Mimaroglu, maybe...he did the McShann record and used him with Mingus. But Scofield was on the Cobham/Duke record on Atlantic...people might forget that once upon a time he was a really interesting sideman who brought a quirky inside/out eely phrasing to the game (especially with Miles). And then he got famous (ok, jazz-famous) and things started evening out. Inevitable, I suppose, and he's not the only guy who leveled out over time (that's probably the rule rather than the exception). But this "Omnibook" reference is cracking me up, because....no. Not even.
  23. Scofield definitely had an in at Atlantic for everything but a leader date...
  24. Ira at that time had an already advanced/personal take on Sonny Rollins, and in a time when people were trying to have ANY kind of a take on Sonny Rollins. At least that's how it strikes me.
