  3. Going back to a previous eta...do you know Over The Weekend" Just disbeidcovrred it a few months ago, a John Benson Brooks gem, and very minimally covered over the decades, hardly a standard!
  4. Haven't heard them, but from your description, I thought he was going to be a younger guy. Not even... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ervin_Nyiregyh%C3%A1zi I'm intrigued by this comment: Critical reaction to the recordings was sharply divided, with some claiming to hear an authentic 19th-century pianist (Harold C. Schonberg wrote, "some critics wonder if Franz Liszt had been reincarnated"[15]). Others denounced Nyiregyhazi's "incredibly slipshod" technique, "ridiculously amateurish" fortissimo playing,[16] "glacial tempos and total dissociation from contemporary performance styles. But Romantic revivalists were enthralled."[ Which begs the questions...who ever heard Lizst play to made this assessment? OTOH, why should he be "informed by contemporary performance styles"? I read stuff like this and wonder what is anybody actually hearing. what is really happening, or want they think they want to hear happening?
  5. that last one is in the Real Book, isn't it? So it's technically a "standard" But is it a "standard" if nobody plays it? and don't get me going there about Carla Bley, good lord, there's some meat there...
  6. How slow does your band have their pocket? Ok, let's go for the obvious:
  7. Some of these are already arranged, LOL. Alex Sipiagin did great work here, but he had great material to work with. probably none of these are useful for "big band" purposes, they stand alone as is just fine, staying within themselves because that's where they live, but oh well, i never miss a change to throw them out there for anybody looking for "new songs"...although none are hardly "new" in age. Or...I keep waiting for somebody do discover this one, somebody who's not afraid to color with the darker colors of the emotions: I don't mind me some R&B in my songs, so...depends on who's going to be playing these charts. but the OHSHIT moment of this one is at the VERY end.

Yeah, "just sold out" seems to be a more or less realtime purchase tracker. It all gets cleaned up at some interval, but that looks to be a separate process, probably having to do with inventory database I very much appreciate this, because it has significantly reduced the instances or ordering stuff and then getting an order receipt where half of it is already gone especially when there's just one anchor purchase with a few secondary items thrown on and it ends up being just the secondary ones that get filled. Hate that.
  11. Bellamy Kreicauer - Never More Alone
  12. The problem is not the song, it's the performance. It just reeks of ok, do we HAVE to do this? But let's go to a life in a world where only some things that happened in this one nothing happened in this one really did happen, and let's lose the lameass bridge, keep the rest of the song/record just like it is and add Cannonball & Zawinul on Wurlitzer (no need to add Roy McCurdy if he hadn't started playing "straight"-eights yet, Ringo's more than in there enough, Ringo FTW) to this: That would be one hipass thing to do. But that's nothing like what Charles Lloyd, George Avakian, and John Simon did. Not ever close. Sounds like they were not ready to call it back home, this prodigal music. Yeah, THIS. With Cannonball & Zawinul. And some place with real people, not The Club (although that would do in a pinch), and for sure not a bunch of stupidass boomer whitekids. Enough of people giving this shit more that is its fair due. Cannonball had more than half a clue about what that music really was, deep down,, and I bet that Charles Lloyd got schooled about that while he was in that band.
  13. RIP, Champ
  14. I have, but I don't want it all. Hate to pay less, get more, but end up not using all of it. Not something I'm into. One more way that the "digital paradigm" ends up creating mental clutter, oh I have EVERYTHING now...well, I don't WANT everything, and I sure don't NEED everything. It's like the warehouse club thing, for some items, it makes sense, but for other things, oh wok, GREAT price on the 360-count pack of eggs, too bad they're damn near all gonna get thrown out. And I know that eggs are not datas, but still....goes to the overall spirit of being mindful about one's consumption, in general. In the end....chicken.
  15. Here we go: Tenor, plays melody only. No Lloyd "flavor" at all unless you really WANT to hear it, and then, you gotta work. Definitely two guitars, one lead, the other rhythm. Could be Robertson playing the lead part, or could be Szabo doing what he was told/asked. One brief solo. Stinson a "possibility", but both Tony & LaRocca...wouldn't be able to tell, to be honest A totally unambitious, uninspiring effort by all concerned. Apparently whatever decisions Lloyd had or was to make about reaching out to a younger/broader audience had not been engaged when this record was made. It could pretty much be damn near anybody. Doesn't sound like anybody was having fun, or was wanting to be having fun.
  16. New Amsterdam has gotten my attention, yes. I always look (and often enough, buy) when I get a new release notification. Guess I'm not the only one. I've also noticed that their CD product only sometimes turns up on Discogs. So...they seem to be finding their audience, not just with music, but with format. https://www.discogs.com/Ashley-Bathgate-Sleeping-Giant-Ash/release/14490795 https://www.amazon.com/Ash-Ashley-Bathgate/dp/B07XKGBZZT/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=ashley+bathgate&qid=1624147534&sr=8-4 Nope. But it's a GREAT record, and we all have friends, right? Still....NEXT time, order the damn thing as soon as the email comes, it's like a sinatra/mccartney/stones ticket or something.
  17. Yeah, less than 24 hours. So...time for a comeback tour or something! Seriously, I know his music and was looking forward to a "new version". And so now there is one. But DAMN that CD went in the blink of an eye...
  18. The clear lesson here is that the limiteder the run of the physical issues get, the quicker you're gonna need to carpe diem, or else be prepared to deal with the aftermarket. Or, uh, just switch to legit DLs. Not my first choice, but my time, my money, my choice, simple as that.
  19. It's tucked away inside here: https://www.discogs.com/Warne-Marsh-Groups-Noteworthy/release/11859033 But ah, er, ah...here's something I've never seen,,,OG album + extra material?!?!?!?! https://www.discogs.com/Warne-Marsh-Warne-Out/release/13542567
  20. Since when did Julius Eastman get so popular? I know he's still at best a cult figure (albeit one with perhaps "renewed interest", and that it doesn't take long to sell out a really small run, but damn, less than 24 hours? In both cases, though, decent quality DLs are avialable, and my shrinking shelf space id not mirrored by my hard drive space...but there is a loy less urgency to get a DL. It's jsut files, right? The music is one thing, the object something else. And I often like them both, for separate reasons. But hey, I can change that as/if the times deem it so. Not paying $500 for a Braxton box set until I can afford it, and unless I, like, increase my existing assets by a factor of... 50 Bajillion or so, that's not happening. Oh well!
  21. Might be a good idea to get a variety of non-connected data sources before going public with something like this. Just sayin'.... No idea what might have actually took him down like that, but am beyond relieved that it was not a stroke, and that whatever it was/is has been identified and dealt with, and that he is home and doing ok. Wishing nothing but the best for the OG Capra-Black!
  22. I had it in my cart, but for some reason the bank sent out a fraud alert on the transaction at exactly the time when my granddaughter came over...the voicemail was blaring as she was walking in, and of course she comes first, especially since the caller ID did not clearly identify itself. So by the time I got them inside and greeted, listened to the call, realized that oh shit i need to take care of this, called in approved the transaction, fixed her a snack, caught up on things (a 4 year old has a LOT to tell you!) then got back to the cart and tried to check out, OOPS sold out. I think it went from 11(?) to sold out in just a few hours. I am not upset, I had my chance, I'll live. But what is REALLY odd is that a new CD record of Julian Eastman music on New Amsterdam went up yesterday, and has sold out already! https://wildup.bandcamp.com/album/julius-eastman-vol-1-femenine I got the email yesterday, checked it out, and figured I'd order it sometimes today. Well...there's no rush to order a DL now, is there... In both of these cases, it'll be interesting to see what the aftermarket prices are...wonder how much, if any, of these are being quicksold by people looking to flip their purchases.
  23. And that's a legal/contractual term, correct? I like to know these things.
