Turns out that these are Dale's personal tapes (reel-to-reel!) that he made for his show on the late, great KCHU-FM, a community radio station that was as ragged as it was right (and vice-versa). He is indeed taking good care of them. So that leaves the Donnelly collection of Recovery Room tapes that were last heard of in conjunction with Leaning House records.

Tow recent DG Media Mail orders, one placed on 4/13 (2 CDs 4 books) & another on 4/17 (2 CDs 3 LPs). Both arrived today, 4/22. No complaints at all, but they got here on the same day, so hey, Media Mail gonna do what it do. Don't do the dime if you can't pay the time.

The Leaning House guy was supposed to put out a release of selected Recovery Room tapes but that fell through. And now Dale McFarland's got stuff up on YouTube. I know Dale and will ask him about that. He's a good guy, not at all shady. Here's what's LOL about all that - for the longest, they recorded damn near every night - on 8-TRACK! Jesus, that was a good band and the type of club to hear them in. No tricks, no gimmicks, no hypes, no narratives, just people playing their lives for whoever showed up and themselves. RIP real jazz.

and then, some say, mingus sent knepper a bag of heroin in the mail. as far as knepper's ability to play being "ruined"...no doubt there were problems. but...he never stopped playing, and never made any bad records once he got his chops back to whatever state he got them back. I heard a surtain...increased roughness of tone, but that's about it. then again, with chops, only the player knows for sure.
