  1. I also received the package today. I ordered a few days after you, and conclude response to the offer was strong: got filled on only 1 out of 11 titles (and that was the gong meditation disc!), but received a bonus compilation. Heavier on duets than I'd prefer, but overall the substitutions are reasonable and fair. All CDs in original packaging with artwork. Going to have fun listening, may wind up keeping nearly everything as the major option would be donating to a local library. [Added] The one disappointment is that I didn't get filled with any Mitteleuropa Orchestra titles. Hoped to get some because I prefer the larger ensembles.
  2. A discogs seller from Turkey offers it @US$120 shipped. I've considered ordering a couple of things from that seller (he has a pretty good inventory), but never had enough confidence in intl. shipping to pull the trigger. I think I paid in the vicinity of $110, but it's been a few years. Was extremely happy with the purchase. The $200+ offerings seem really high. Back when I was paying attention, transactions seemed to take place around $100 plus or minus, say $90 - 125.
  3. It's hard to say, the label doesn't seem to be forthcoming with much info. Looking at https://soulbank.k7store.com/release/318010-brian-auger-the-trinity-far-horizons-the-trinity-box-set?lang=en_US I see no indications of extra tracks, but there's a vague quote "fully remastered, in a beautiful box set that includes Lois Wilson's exclusive interview with Brian and glorious images from the Auger archive in a booklet." Can't tell much about the claimed remastering. The LP booklet looks deluxe indeed, but not sure about the CD version (how good could the "glorious images" look at just under 5"x5"?). In your situation, I'd stick with the 4 old CDs, but I'm really cheap and generally pass on sonic upgrades.
  4. Yes, I own the set, enjoy it and periodically listen to all the discs in sequence. Purchased it used via this board some years ago. Wouldn't go quite so far as to say it's the "audio companion", but it has outstanding coverage of Ra's Chicago period. If a reasonably priced copy surfaces, I'd go for it. My only minor criticism is that Michael Anderson (the narrator) seemingly inserts fake intros and questions into several old tapes of Ra speaking, somewhat falsely portraying them as interviews. Comes off as a bit cheesy, but doesn't detract from the recommendation.
  5. Yeah, I have Retribution Reparation as well. Agree that it's very good. Journey into Nigritia finds its way onto my player slightly more often, but that's just a matter of my questionable taste. I really like Nate Morgan's playing, despite logic saying that he sounds too much like McCoy Tyner...He was involved with the Build an Ark group as well. To date I've passed on Morgan's Nimbus West Live in Santa Barbara trio album because I preferred the sound samples from his other two titles. Might eventually acquire it.
  6. I've been exploring some of the non-Tapscott (-led) Nimbus Wests (already had the Tapscotts). Enjoying these two: Can't say they're essential, but I dig 'em.
  7. Various US shops have it. I liked what I heard sufficiently to order from importcds, the cheapest vendor I could find. I like the bandcamp site because I can listen to (often all) the music, but shipping from UK or Europe can be a deal-breaker.
  8. I just noticed a 4-CD / 5-LP Trinity reissue: Open, Definitely What, Streetnoise and Befour. Early albums, the first three with Julie Driscoll. https://soulbankmusic.bandcamp.com/album/far-horizons-the-trinity-box-set I'm moderately interested, the inclusion of Julie appeals, but I'm not sure I'd sufficiently like such early material. Going to listen on bandcamp, in the meantime any opinions or suggestions welcome.
  9. That reminds me...I really like Chen's playing of 12-tone music (Schoenberg, Barraque, Boulez), have long wanted to hear her Bach but never got around to it.
  10. Just noticed this new book is shipping: http://www.inventorypress.com/product/milford-graves-a-mind-body-deal Warning: it's not a biography. Rather (from above link): This fully illustrated catalogue includes documentation from the exhibition A Mind-Body Deal, including hand-painted album covers and posters, idiosyncratic drum sets, recording ephemera, multimedia sculptures, photographs, costumes, and artifacts from his scientific studies. This first-ever overview of Graves as a creative polymath attempts to unlock his unique habitat by gathering his intricate, multifaceted work and exploring the practices and predilections of this extraordinary jazz mind.
  11. Thanks again, John. I enjoyed this BFT, it reminded me to listen to my neglected collection of Jessica Williams recordings, and nostalgia even moved me to purchase a Laura Nyro compilation. 😁
  12. to all 3. The Lowther ranks as one of my favorite 2022 purchases.
  13. Finally pulled the trigger on this. Had been put off by the first track (Stevie Wonder cover) which failed to impress, but the other tracks are so strong that I relented. Not overly concerned about sound quality; what I heard on Youtube (from LP) was really bright so brightness won't be a surprise.
  14. Went for some Japanese CD reissues: Roland Hanna, Sir Elf Sonny Clark Memorial Quartet, Voodoo Yosuke Yamashita Trio, Montreux Afterglow Tyrone Washington, Roots
  15. A lot of my exploration of "modern" jazz winds up in that period. I don't have much background, buy a lot of used recordings, and often try to build up some kind of base rather than chasing after the very newest releases. Some purchases (e.g. NoBusiness) are archival-type releases of familiar names. But my erudition is not sufficient (either depth or breadth) to post on threads, so I mainly lurk.
  16. It is (or will be?). Dusty Groove shows both LP and CD expected on 24 March.
  17. W. Seneca, NY (near Buffalo):
  18. I got e-mail today informing me that only 2 of 11 ordered titles were in-stock. Andrea kindly offered the option of substitution or refund. I went for substitution. What the heck, most of my selections were shots in the dark anyway.
  19. I liked the clip I listened to, but somewhat dread hearing Dazed and Confused. Hope it's not a Zeppelin cover. 🤨
  20. T.D.

    Herbie Hancock

Published an autobiography back in 2014. Pretty high-profile, I got the impression it sold decently...Skimmed through it in a bookshop but didn't purchase.
  21. I figured that @$1.50 per disc I can deal with (and even expect) weirdness. 😄 For instance, went for the strange-looking Bang! by Roberto Zorzi because of the sidemen (Berne, Feldman, Robertson, Previte). The Einstein's Cosmic Messengers DVD looks interesting (I'm a science buff), but I doubted DVDs were included in the offer so didn't think to include it.
  22. I also went for the offer, ordered 11, most recognizable Crispell and the 6 Lol Coxhill titles. No idea about the fill rate...website implies out-of-stock items are produced on demand (CD-R?), but not sure that'll apply to the sale. Certainly no beef with CD-R at these prices. Granted none of these really qualify as new releases, but it's a step...
