I dunno, but when I was in middle school I really liked the abbreviated version of this tune, which was a 45 (this longer version is also good IMO and got airplay on AOR stations) : But I disliked everything else I heard from GFR, and never listened to any full album.

Sounds like something I'd enjoy given the personnel. Funny memory...back in the day Hartley's album Overdog was heavily advertised in local (Chicago) radio commercials. But it was just a name, no sound clips; the band received zero airplay, so I knew nothing of the music and thus never rolled the dice on the LP.

Digging around in the most recent issue http://www.cadencejazzmagazine.com/membersonly/admin/assets/OctEdition2022Cadence.pdf after many pages of advertising I found a masthead: October November December 2022 Vol. 48 No. 4 (448) Cadence ISSN01626973 is published by Cadence Media LLC, P.O. Looks reasonably interesting, but I'd need to see a masthead. Say what you want, but after various disclosures I don't want to put money in Bob Rusch's pocket. I clicked on "Contact us" and Portland, OR came up as an address, which is promising in that regard. But show me a masthead. Don't see any equivalent on the site, which is peculiar.

Jim, (only) with those generous hints could I do some sleuthing. Otherwise would have had no hope. Tinyurl to avoid spoilers...perhaps track 1 of https://tinyurl.com/bdesyuvb

Which Box Sets do You Regret Buying, and Why?
T.D. replied to northwood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'm downsizing and strongly dislike the bulky oversized Mosaic packaging. Don't want to add any more of those massive boxes, only consider Mosaics if the musical content is truly compelling. I prefer something like the Julius Hemphill box on New World: 7 CDs of well-curated music with a fine booklet (I don't require the big photos which render Mosaic books oversized), the entire package fitting into approximately one of the Mosaic fatboy inner boxes (!). -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
T.D. replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Michael Bisio resides in a NYC-style AIR loft building in Kingston, NY called The Lace Mill. They have been having (approximately) monthly concerts on Sunday afternoons. Only upcoming one scheduled is Tani Tabbal Trio sometime TBA in Nov, I suspect winter sched. will be lighter. It'll be announced on The Lace Mill Facebook page. -

Matthew Shipp Quartet (w. Jason Hwang, violin/viola; Michael Bisio, bass; Jay Rosen, drums/perc) -
That's showing at the 2 semi-local art house theaters. I was going to see it today, but went to a concert (Matthew Shipp 4tet) instead. Maybe this week.

It's the Post-Pandemic Covid Poll!

I'm old enough (just turned 65) to remember people in wheelchairs because of polio, as well as families who had lost members. Would have been much worse if today's moronic standards prevailed in those days. -
My only source has been that discogs link, so can't say.

Can't go wrong with the Don Martin cover Prestiges.

+1...no, I didn't recognize him on #8.

The last scene's song and dance routine in Scout uniforms / short pants totally creeped me out...didn't make it through to the lean.

+1 Looking at these kinds of things through modern eyes can be pretty damn creepy. Tastes differ, but I wouldn't invest a full hour. Pretty impressive personnel, though. Arthur Hill became a big-time Hollywood director, Elaine Stritch was a Broadway legend, etc.

Wild guess, is Charlie Mariano involved with #6? Saxophone + Eastern sounds + electronics, seems possible.

Type in the characters inside the quotes: ":tup" Testing... ...it works.

Thinking a lot about #6...some hints of "modern classical" in places. Early on it sounds a bit like Terry Riley but less microtonal. Almost like Terry Riley meets somebody like the ICP. Then the electronics totally threw me. Terry Riley meets MEV? Impossible. It does sound rather like MEV (I have the MEV 40 New World box), but that can't be right. Which is to say I don't have a clue, but it sure is interesting.

Earlier this year, March iirc, wasn't Bandcamp acquired by Epic Games (indirectly Tencent?). People were speculating that might affect Bandcamp's payout rate, but I never heard anything further.
-
New York Art Quartet on #7? I do have a couple of recordings by them...Alan Silva also comes to mind, but less likely IMO.
