  1. Nice find! Have to admit that I bought myself the same(?) white LP stand that Pim has, but my setup is not very suitable for nice pictures...
  2. i've been wondering about this, too,... part of the answer is certainly that there was almost no documentation of the little that there was... I was immediately reminded of Isoardi's interview with Clifford Solomon (here) which has some memories of Vegas, especially the passage starting with "In '58, I think, I went to Vegas with Tommy and Evelyn Roberts") ...
  3. The Coltrane reference also has a tape from this gig which contains a Greensleeves that would match but also nine minutes of Body and Soul as well as nineteen minutes of Ole... Presumably recorded by someone else in lesser quality
  4. Guess many copies go to people who don't play their records or become Birthday/Christmas presents which makes returns a hassle...
  5. On another board, some people went through five or six copies before giving up.... I'm happy w the cd
  6. over here, there's a huge trend towards replacing motor bikes and the like by e-fatbikes like this thing... looks like a motor bike, is fast like a motor bike (or, at least, much faster than an ordinary bike) but is allowed to drive in the bicycle lane and helmets are not mandatory either...
  7. in early 2018, I spent some time in Philly for work and visited most of the (four or five?) record stores within walking distance of the city center... The one I'd visit again is Long in the Tooth... Going by memory, it's a bit on the crate digging side, but not that much, i.e., you will find all the jazz records in one place and in alphabetical order at decent prices - but it did not seem highly curated (you can walk through the shop on google maps and judge for yourself). I bought the Don Patterson album with Fathead Newman there and I guess that's a good example of the type of record they might have
  8. i think this trend is reversing, more and more people are kind of through with IPAs... I still like them but also find myself more interested in Belgian style beers these days...

    Tony Fruscella

As the world's nr 1 Tony fruscella fan (not a saint either, no), I'd like to emphasize that this whole discussion is off-topic in this thread. After years of waiting, there was some wonderful new music by fruscella (not involving don joseph), a reason to celebrate... Please move your (likely justified) negativity into somebody else's thread... The worst would be if this thread was closed because people are unable to start new threads when they switch topics
  10. I was quite impressed by Marquis Hill and his quartet with Joel Ross last year, still hoping for an album in that lineup
  11. I was at a Soft Machine concert in 2019 or so and thought that the overall level of nostalgia was higher than what I'm used to from jazz concerts, like an elderly stranger approaching you about how his band opened for Zappa in some village in Brabant (or sth like that, pretty amazing no doubt), other strangers chiming in... And the concert was not bad at all
  12. yes, noticed this entry, too, as well as the two with Hope, Bill Hardman and Roland Alexander... they look very tasty... btw: Accardi is the guy behind wardellgray.org, the Armstrong guy is called Riccardi
  13. Saturn in Köln I assume?
  14. indeed, here, the place where Matt comes in a few paragraphs from the end makes it clearer... Apparently Matt has by now moved away from his struct vinyl policy...
  15. I am pretty sure the person protesting is the new owner of Nimbus West but he's not Albach's son, I read an article about that somewhere
  16. Pretty sure this is about Gioia's History of Jazz... the West Coast Jazz book is indeed excellent...
  17. I have the CD version and am not playing it as much as I should - but that's true for most of my records... It's not my favorite among those non-Tapscott Californian Nimbus West albums from the 80s (that would be Journey into Nigritia) but it sure is very very goodd... I would it think it's very much up your alley... it's also on spotify 90% off-topic, but since I was just looking through Nate Morgan's discogs credits: Just noticed he has a credit for "front cover concept" on this famous album cover:
  18. indeed, it's excellent, already in my third spin...
  19. Serge Chaloff - Boston Blow-Up! A Japanese reissue from the collection of bassist Arjen Gorter if the sticker on the back can be believed...
  20. Yes, I know, these tracks were issued in the US - what I meant (and I don't know if it's true) is that the compilation as a whole did not exist in the US, only in the Netherlands and the UK Wild Bill Moore - Bottom Groove
  21. Yes, that Teddy Edwards Septet track with Hampton Hawes sealed the deal for me... There's also a Les McCann Quartet track with Bobby Hutcherson... And, indeed, surprisingly there seems to be no US equivalent
