  1. I saw him live a few times and enjoyed most of it quite a bit, I'm especially fond of the quartet with Sam Harris (and Sam Harris in general, check out his album on Freshsound!)... Owl Song I didn't like either though, similar idea to Wadada Leo Smith's Lebroba which I find much stronger
  2. Majesty King Funk indeed...
  3. that's a great book...
  4. I tend to agree, like the Aldana album much more than those two Lund albums... Heard Aldana's group live this weekend actually, quartet without piano, Lund was outstanding... and she mentioned the next album of her music with Lund would come out in April
  5. That, too, Discogs has quite a few versions including that bootleg on "Jazz Door" https://www.discogs.com/master/895315-Joe-Henderson-And-Kikuchi-Hino-In-Concert
  6. Re "some time ago", this material first came out in the 70s already...
  7. had to look up the address... Thorbeckeplein 5... Thorbeckeplein 16, just a few houses further is where Coleman Hawkins had his regular engagement in the 1930s (link)
  8. if it's a somewhat dark and rainy desert island, I might take this cd with me like this is a favorite track
  9. It's exactly the same in the Netherlands, we had a rare healthy week the last few days but now "the maestro" as we affectionately call her has again brought back something from daycare... She's still too young to tell us much about the symptoms... Can't wait to check them out myself....
  10. Russell's antinomy right there... (I count three posts after December 27, or four if I include this one)
  11. made me aware that Bill Crow is still delivering his columns, I read a few this weekend https://www.local802afm.org/allegro/articles/band-room-december-2023/
  12. Bobby/Billy/Brasil for the fourth time today, Getz/Gilberto calls, Dixieland answers... it's just enjoyable music, those Bossa backgrounds couldn't hurt a fly and I can easily listen to Hackett and Butterfield duetting all day
  13. I see six posts from December 27, the first from OliverM, the last from mjzee... no idea what you see or if you're special in that regard
  14. That Willie Bryant collection i recently got as well (i ended 2023 with four Earl Hines Soli albums, Dinah, Plays Gershwin (Swaggie), Tribute to Louis and Plays Ellington)
  15. There's some information in Bill Crow's Facebook post... Apparently Bailey gave up drumming and became a flight instructor...
  16. "There are a few records showing up that I felt were on there because they had to be - The Jaime Branch record ..." I agree - but they did leave the Branch record off the list actually... (Zoh Amba is a fresh face, on youtube is a video with her Immanuel Wilkins and Micah Thomas that i liked quite a bit, doubting though whether they fit the bill)
  17. Thanks for sharing, glad I could finally watch it...
  18. Indeed, it's a very nice blog
  19. It's an awesome beer - but then so are probably many in the 5-10 range you haven't tried... In that style, Rochefort 10 is a more affordable classic and at the top end I recommend e.g. beers from Struise like the Pannepot and the St Amatus https://thehoptimist.co.uk/product/pannepot-old-fishermans-ale-de-struise-brouwers/
  20. It's funny you mention Westvleteren... Since this summer their beer is available at some shops in the Netherlands (Mitra) legally for a reasonable price (4.80 or so)... Meaning, at least, that some competitors (Pannepot for instance) are now pricier and harder to find... I've now given Westvleteren as a present two or three times, had one or two myself... But still find it hard to accept that they've decided to transition to becoming an ordinary special beer
  21. Well said... You can hear that first version of Round Midnight under the link in the first post btw ... Romualdo, thanks! Maybe I didn't say it clearly enough but my question is really whether others think this is all the same altoist on those tracks....
