  1. imho, the problem isn't so much the fat-shaming but rather that the song talks about sex between a kid and his grown-up nanny as if it was no big deal... maybe they should have left off more of those songs - maybe a Queen Greatest Hits collection for five year olds wasn't the best idea in the first place... but kids are going to be fascinated by guns anyway, what matters is that they don't have access to them... "sexual innuendo" when it's all going on between children and grown-ups... can wait until they're 12.
  2. Some amazing sessions in there like the Jones-Collins or Sam Morgan
  3. imho, Mike Zwerin's memories of playing with Claude Thornhill in the 50s are required reading on this topic, https://jazzprofiles.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-square-on-lawn-by-michael-zwerin.html (the relevant part starts with "When I came back to New York from Miami," but the stuff before is actually interesting, too)
  4. Those Kikuchi albums are something completely different though, you should give them a try, they're amazing.. In the Netherlands, there's the Rob Franken keyboard cycle / Third Eye which might fit the bill but I have never heard the music / never looked into where to find it...
  5. "Giants of the Organ come together in concert" may not be what you are looking for... Some early Masabumi Kikuchi albums fit the bill w organ and electric piano but some saxophone, no guitar (going by memory: Poo Sun, Reconfirmation, In concert, maybe Collaboration)
  6. and then you have this here from the same artist around the same time (is this what "Second Concept" refers to?)
  7. Thank you! I like my favorite late Ammons albums (The Black Cat and You talk that talk) but was suspecting I might be missing something (and those two albums I indeed don't know)
  8. Off topic, I know, but: Allen (or anyone else), when you say "late Gene Ammons" which recordings are you thinking of? Thanks!
  9. There's also Concerto with Masabumi Kikuchi which I like a lot (but I don't know the others except some with Satoh)
  10. Have to play Day of the Sun again but a dim memory says that when having to choose between Easy Listening and Free Jazz I wouldn't put it into the Free Jazz bin... It sure isn't bad at all
  11. looking at those guys credits, some well-known like Carl Fontana or Harry Edison, some less so, possibly because they spent too much time in the Vegas scene led to this album which is apparently another self-produced Las Vegas affair... Another fine album by a Las Vegas band is Woody Herman's Jackpot
  12. If tall people had to play larger pianos, you might be in trouble...
  13. Nice find! Have to admit that I bought myself the same(?) white LP stand that Pim has, but my setup is not very suitable for nice pictures...
  14. i've been wondering about this, too,... part of the answer is certainly that there was almost no documentation of the little that there was... I was immediately reminded of Isoardi's interview with Clifford Solomon (here) which has some memories of Vegas, especially the passage starting with "In '58, I think, I went to Vegas with Tommy and Evelyn Roberts") ...
  15. The Coltrane reference also has a tape from this gig which contains a Greensleeves that would match but also nine minutes of Body and Soul as well as nineteen minutes of Ole... Presumably recorded by someone else in lesser quality
  16. Guess many copies go to people who don't play their records or become Birthday/Christmas presents which makes returns a hassle...
  17. On another board, some people went through five or six copies before giving up.... I'm happy w the cd
  18. over here, there's a huge trend towards replacing motor bikes and the like by e-fatbikes like this thing... looks like a motor bike, is fast like a motor bike (or, at least, much faster than an ordinary bike) but is allowed to drive in the bicycle lane and helmets are not mandatory either...
  19. in early 2018, I spent some time in Philly for work and visited most of the (four or five?) record stores within walking distance of the city center... The one I'd visit again is Long in the Tooth... Going by memory, it's a bit on the crate digging side, but not that much, i.e., you will find all the jazz records in one place and in alphabetical order at decent prices - but it did not seem highly curated (you can walk through the shop on google maps and judge for yourself). I bought the Don Patterson album with Fathead Newman there and I guess that's a good example of the type of record they might have
  20. i think this trend is reversing, more and more people are kind of through with IPAs... I still like them but also find myself more interested in Belgian style beers these days...

    Tony Fruscella

As the world's nr 1 Tony fruscella fan (not a saint either, no), I'd like to emphasize that this whole discussion is off-topic in this thread. After years of waiting, there was some wonderful new music by fruscella (not involving don joseph), a reason to celebrate... Please move your (likely justified) negativity into somebody else's thread... The worst would be if this thread was closed because people are unable to start new threads when they switch topics
