  1. the B-side can also be heard here
  2. this thread is just as good as any thread, to say that a place where amiri baraka can't have his rip thread, just because he was too complex and full of hate, is a sad place.
  3. always fascinated to see that there does exist a world where artists like terence blanchard or christain mcbride do fulfill the "new miles" or "new mingus" promises that were ascribed to them when i discovered jazz 20 years ago...
  4. today would have been my dad's 64th birthday (and he died in 99)... I wish you all the best!
  5. apparently, it was suicide, not an "ordinary drug overdose", there are various posts on Bill Reed's blog about her, e.g. http://people-vs-drchilledair.blogspot.de/2005/05/beverly-kenney-postscript.html
  6. keeping my fingers crossed for you too (less than 200km walking distance), had increasingly bad luck with stuff not arriving recently otherwise
  7. very busy at the moment, my books arrived in Europe about a week ago, first impression is great (of course), but I haven't read much - thank you!
  8. almost certain, the access to your hard drive (??!!) is not due to Spotify themselves but rather to some "record label" which uploads its downloads (from wherever) to spotify. don't know if this makes you feel any better, but unless, say, 100000 people listen to it (unlikely), there will be no revenues that deserve the name to whoever did it...
  9. Boo-ren or "Bew-ren", i'd say i.e. the dutch "oe" is a long "u"
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. "You do not have permission to view this attachment."
  12. Gnostic Preludes was released last spring actually, so maybe it's a new album with the same group? Kenny Wollesen is the vibes player on several of my recent Zorn favorites (Nova Express, At the Gates of Paradise, Mount Analogue)
  13. in case someone else is interested, Robert Stewart has most of his albums for free download on his webpage: http://www.therobertstewartexperience.com/discography.html
  14. generally, the best place for finding Nimbus West releases is at the source: http://www.nimbuswest.com/files/html/CDs.htm if the Morgan album works for you, there's more there...
  15. second the recommendation of the Nate Morgan Album, it's a bit like a smaller-scale, 80s, A Love Supreme
  16. if you pledge more than 25$ you receive "a signed copy of 'TWO' a duo recording with Jemeel Moondoc and Connie Crothers" which seems like a highly unlikely combination on paper
  17. according to wikipedia, Galeta left SA in 1961, recording with Bobby Hutcherson and Woody Shaw in 1973 - so most likely the answer is no
  18. not a complete answer at all but apparently he is now called Kalim Zarif and can be seen here:
  19. here's a discography (no leader albums apparently) http://www.jazzlists.com/ and here's a 1992 obit
  20. Not entirely sure, but I think Disc 9, Track 1-3 is an example for a session which is not available elsewhere (which would mean "No" to Q1): Disc 9, 1-3: Don Senay (voc); Thad Jones, Louis Mucci (tp); unknown (brass); John LaPorta, Julius Baker (woodwinds); Billy Taylor (p); unknown (harp); Jackson Wiley (cello); unknown (strings); Milt Hinton, Fred Zimmerman [Charles Mingus?] (b); Joe Morello (d, perc) or unknown (perc); Alonzo Levister (arr) The Edge Of Love (2:48) (Baker/Ables/Goode) Makin' Whoopee (2:38) (Donaldson/Kahn) Fanny (3:01) (Rome) http://mingus.onttonen.info/details/fantasy/debut.html (upon first sight, this concerns Disc 9, 1-4, 4 is on the small Debut Records Story Box though, and the final track on Disc 12)
  21. Mostly yes. I added a few albums others appreciate in areas I don't really know or like (VDMK for instance). Got to correct that: "What Country Is This" is my listing - tremendous album, I think! But I'm not well-versed in all things VDMK and even though "Simpatico" is the one VDMK 5 album I own, I relied on others there and in three or four other cases. i'd like to emphasize that "Behind the 8 Ball" was my nomination; on a more serious note, it's a great list, and they really should have included it in the printed edition
  22. yes http://www.discogs.com/artist/Herbert+Morgan
  23. Roughly, Zeuhl is to Magma what Canterbury Scene is to Soft Machine (or maybe rather: to Gong)... in particular, there are not terribly many bands besides Magma in that vein, ZAO would be one this guy's lists are a good starting point: http://rateyourmusic.com/list/siriuspooka
  24. Happy birthday!
