  4. oh thank god- this is on "definitive"? maybe theres actually a chance i can get this one in that case.... ive noticed all the best bird shows are issued on cd by just a few labels, theres the phil woods label, ember, stash is a big one.....are these just the labels OF the collectors?
  5. larry kart: i wish everyone posted like you do- thank you for a detailed post, in which you site the brubeck octet, which i did not mention in the inital post. and then you used a bill smith interview as evidence, which made your point even clearer- thank you for your throughness...however.... R U TOTALLY COMPLETLY 100% CERTIFIED TOTALLY INSANE??!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!? WHAT DO U MEAN THERE WAS NO WEST COAST JAZZ IN 1946 ---> here is just one exapmle of and album i would just die to hear-- so much of this w.c.j. is so completely out of print its rediculous--- ! Various Artists - Modern Trumpet Leaders (IAJRC 25) Howard McGhee, Gerald Wilson (tp) Vic Dickenson (tb) Sonny Criss (as) Teddy Edwards (ts) James King (ts, vo) Jimmy Bunn (p) Charles Mingus (b) Roy Porter (d) Hollywood, CA, spring 1946 KFI-23333 Sweet Potato KRI-23337 Hoggin' KFI-23345 Blues a la King FKI-26610 Night Mist i dare you none of you have this on cd, or even lp!! see larry, chewy has a broad interpertation of what i call west coast jazz, if its recorded on the west coast it can qualifty as some type of west coast jazz. i dont care if its ben webster. but i dont like it when w.c.j. guys sell out and go back east. that is the worst.
  6. HEY U GUYS HEY U GUYS: I TRIED BIDDING ON ONE, WAS @ 20 BUCKS OR SO, I DROVE IT TO 60- STILL I WAS OUTBID- MAN I DONT WANNA PAY MORE THAN 75 BIG ONES FOR THIS RIGHT NOW. I MEAN, I REALLY WANT IT, BUT IT IS REDICULIOUS I HAVE LIKE ALL THIS OTHER CRAZY BIRD LIVE STUFF, RADIO B CASTS, AND PRIVATE RECORDINGS DUBBED TO LP, I HAVENT PLAYED MORE THAN 1 SPIN EACH, YET. I MEAN, SERIOUSLY. THE MAIN REASON I WANT THIS SET IS CAUSE ITS BIRD ON THE WEST COAST PLAYING W/ HAMPTON HAWES AND ADDISON FARMER N SHIT- THATS THE PRIMARY REASON.
  7. has anyone ever heard these dates: how good is bird and lennie together. is it like lennie and lee konitz, only better?
  8. i have been getting all these random bird bootleg lately and i know i must have the mosaic- not only is it the ultimate collection of rare bird, but A LOT OF IT WAS RECORDED ON THE WEST COAST, MAKING IT ELLIGEBLE FOR BEING WEST COAST JAZZ! do a lot of you have this set? have you ever seen it used?

  10. so we all know miles 1st long playing record was the birth of the cool, rec. in nyc, right? well i dunno nothing about miles so will u share w/ me- was there an argument that miles "invented" cool jazz, or was it just all gerry arrangements, who of course is from LA. i also know miles has a cd, live at the lighthouse, but thats besides the point. where did birth of the cool come from- was miles just copying what he heard while in LA?
  11. WELL HES STILL LISTED AS PLAYING TMW @ THE NEW ORLEANS. NEVER SAW THE MAN CAUSE I WAS TOO LAZY TO GO DOWN THERE- SUX
  12. is it worh 14.99 big ones for a radio b'cast disc of bean machine w/ tommy flannigan trio, live in chicago, mid 60s, i belive it was the london house club? do you know of this item
  13. i think hes referring to the albums hank n hank made together, which are the savoy releases, Jazz Message of Hank Mobley: cant recall if hank is on both of them, no, hes on one, horace silver being on the other, right?
  14. r u sure? i thoght on the original it was paul horn, then bud shank had his OWN version, as we all know
  15. no, its vol 1. of live at slugs, 1968 with billy harper/julian priester and i think bill hardman on tpt and they play slide hampton tunes. picked it up for 2 big ones at the tower fire sale, as well as vol 2 which is actually on a different record label (everest) but i have yet to actually play either....
  16. Hi Eeeegor- welcome 2 the jazz board: being a hank mobley collector means listening to lots of various hank mobley.......not obsessing about 1st issue japenese savoy pressings of this and that and the other. im not saying it wouldn't be a feather in my cap to say, have 1st issue blue note lp pressings, but im not trippin' that i dont. (well i have a few, but not all, but thats besides the point) i dont want people listening to hank who are just doing it to appease their jazz record collecting egos: as you are new here i dont know if you fall into this category yet...im just sayin, thats all
  17. she is hot in the 1984 tv movie she made w/ william shatner- she is a housewife and shatner cheats on her w/ a hooker, played by none other than cybill!!!

  21. i cant wait to read this- i can understand if he doesnt wanna be labeled as jazz, as he is so diverse in his talents. he is a multi-talented great black man who really opened up the world to his music, and it is a treat he has written an autobiography for us to read and learn.
