  1. but not to toss my original Q: is CAPITOL solely LA Product...and up until what point.????
  2. well i finished the job- instead of one giant long stack i have 12 small stacks (not STACKED per se but, you know...) anyways- they read: Blues/R&b/early black rock/doo wop etc, Misc. Rock/early white rock/regional rock/pre 1963 pop/post 1963 pop, then 3 stacks of classic rock, then the West coast jazz stack- only if it was RECORDED in California, so there is some stuff in there like linoel (hampton, not ritchie) live in malibu, etc. but for all the traditonally west coast jazz artists who sold out and went to nyc those records are NOT included, with ******ONE******* execption::::FRANK MORGAN LIVE AT THE VILLAGE VANGUARD, w/ CEDAR WALTON TRIO AND MASTER HIGGINS. my rationale is that one its on contemporary and it would be the 1 contemp. record NOT in the west coast jazz pile. but most importantly point 2, frank morgan, that well could of been his 1st time in nyc (it was recorded in the 80s i think). and hes not selling out as much as just playing in new york. but i was looking at this bob brookmyer lp i have called 7X the wilder, and its him and jimmy hall but not in LA: in NYC!! on VERVE nonetheless!!! pppffffssst.
  3. hey brad: take it from chewey-chew-chew--save your $ and go see the Steely Dan w/ Michael McDonald reunion tour. it will be sad 2 see eric w/o billy preston now
  4. no no i know its pop vocals but is it pop vocals from la like june christy w/ bobby cooper and bud shank or is it easy coast pop vocal like sara vaughn live at the appllo
  5. what abuot Peggy lee w/ nelson riddle on capitol---- where does that one go
  6. hi- chewy-chew-chew here: if its on capitol, does that mean it was recorded in LA. or did they record in new york as well. i am trying to separate out again all my west coast jazz and i was confused w/ capitol. i know most of its from la....however.... i am being very critical with what is west coast jazz, eg, some brubeck is in that pile (eg. jazz goes to junior college ,etc), but ive left out the take 5 album and ive left out a lot of jim hall stuff too, cause they sold out and recorded those in NYC. so i dont care how west coast they might be or sound they dont get to go in the west coast jazz pile
  7. ..."Plenty"::: Meryl Streep plays this hot chick who has no man cause everyones nuts about the war, so she is lonely. She hooks up w/ a few guys but then leaves france for england where she marries this uptight english dude in the special services. Over the corse of two hours he nags at her, until she cant take it anymore goes completly mental and even goes as far as to hook up w/ STING on the rebound. she wanted sting to give her a baby. the move struggled along with numerous pacing problems such as having too few static romance scenes and far to many scenes used to advance the plot. In conclusion, if you wish to see Meryl shake it, we here recommend her OTHER 1985 movie, 'falling in love'- complete with catchy dave grusin soundtrack
  8. Billy preston is dead. that is bad and sad. b.p. played a show prob. last oct, definetly sometime last fall w/ his solo band but i couldnt make it but i heard he did a bunch of beatles songs. i have billy prestons record of Vee jay. i dont have his funky records though. but i saw b.p. with eric clapton two times
  9. the band which was cut was the BEACH BOYS-- murray wilson the dad, their manager, probably was behind it
  10. ---->THE T.A.M.I SHOW (teenage music international)-filmed at the santa monic civic auditorium, 1964: starring jan n dean, the beach boys, james brown, rolling stones, marvin gaye, smokey & the miracles, the supremes, lesley gore, and chuck berry.---the only band who didnt release the rights 2 their songs for the film and thus they are cut. it was probably that dam murray. its really an early example of a music film, the mix is horrible- the girls screaming is equal in the mix to the elec. guitar ever at times, but the music is great to hear live, esp. the mowtown acts. jack nitchze the crazy LA arranger conducted the band and i might of seen conte and buddy collette in the horn sec. im not entierely positive. has anyone seen this
  11. dont forget piano player jovino santos neto who is not only well versed in bossa nova but also classical and bebop and he even really likes genesis. he is cool
  12. you can find mint copies of all his stuff on in columbia masterworks 78 box sets- for a buck a piece. and when mint i mean sparkly nice unscratched mint and Isle of the Dead has some much warmth it sounds like you are down there with em.
  13. ...so i went 2 this store w/ about 30,000 78s in the big basement. most organized, some not--- transcription discs, party records, columbia, brunswhick, the whole enchalada-- anyways so i pick out 2 coleman hawkins's on ASCH, a couple fletcher hendersons on columbia, that gerald wilson orch i mentioned, that shelly manne one i mentioned, and the anita o'day on 'signature' anyways so he's all that'll be like 25 a piece or all for 86 dollars or crazy stuff like that--- ---are those 78s really wroth 25 i piece, liek mabye on the entire world market if every jazz fan could bid on that partcular record.... BUT....just sitting like a needle in a haystack in this dingy basement not one costoumer was in besides me....it is only worth like a buck at most, prob. 50 cents. trust me ive bought Earl Hines + his Septet 78s on Apollo for no more than a buck. and ive bought been 78s for a buck. and lennie and dave brubeck. so whats up here
  14. hi chewy-chew-chew reporting here: if you want some advice, its make sure you can be there w/ them every step of the way through the process. DONT JUST HAND/SEND OFF YOUR LP'S DO SOME 2nd PARTY SERVICE. i dont care how reputable they are. my expierence is limited the west coast of US and i dunno where u are, but just be really careful
  15. dont remember but the b side was a vocal- and really i just wanted to know the piano and sax players......espically the sax players at this time?
  16. indeed the title track live version was always one of my favorite songs of in the blues/soul/funk category or whathave you speaking of c'ball- i was checking out last nite c'ball w/ strings on emacy (1955)- wasnt that his 1st year making records? its suprising he would do his w/ strings lp so early in his carreer....
  17. YOU GUYS NEED TO REALLY STOP TALKING ABOUT ME THIS IS GETTING REALLY WEIRD. MY EGO DOES NOT FEED OFF ALL THIS. IF IT DID I'D LET YOU GUYS JABBER AWAY. IM NOT TRYING TO DAMPEN YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS TO SPEECH FOR THOSE JAZZ BOARD MEMBERS IN THE US, BUT I AM JUST SAYING THAT WERE HERE 2 ARGUE ABOUT JAZZ AND NOT STROKE MY EGO. YOU GUYS THINK YOURE ALL SO HOLY- WELL I'LL TELL U WHAT I HAD A BETTER JAZZ EXPIERENCE TODAY THAN *ANY* OF U GUYS, ALL OVER THE WORLD.....BECAUSE I FOUND A STORE W/ PROBABLY 30,000 LPS ON THE 1ST FLR. AND PROB. 25,000 78S IN THE BASEMENT.....AND THEY HAD AN INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH WWII ERA RECORD PLAYER (quality) and the speaker was the same age but sounded perfect....---anyways i played Fletcher Henderson + his orch, the aformentioned g. wilson, s. manne and a. o'day....also some bean record on ASCH-- vdiscs incl. ellington, goodman, lots of bean + pops together for some reason, then i listened 2 some 78s from brazil, and then some dirty 'party' records which werent that dirty and werent that funny.
  18. oh oh and on the b side to the shelly manne, shelly took the vocal- he want all that bad!
  19. ---found this 78- he wanted 5 bucks for it, that was not too bad for me, but id rather get some trader joes so i didnt get it, but i was wondering what the personel info is for this since i love west coast jazz they also had a really neat shelly man septet 78 on some yellow label and it had pepper/cooper/candoli and i think stu willimson on tb. but he wanted 15 for that. also found a really good anita o'day 78 "key largo" which sounded very lovely but wanted 20 for that- and 25 for all the coleman hawkins 78s too....how the hell he makes money w/ 40,000 78s if they are 20 bucks a piece is beyond me---
  20. what if i wanna clean an Lp *NOT* by the Nitty-Gritty-Dirt-Band?
  21. how much would you value a sealed copy of the Capitol records 1st issue of the movie version of "Carousel"
  22. hi chewy-chew-chew here, im gonna rule a thums down cause u only have 23 posts u obviously just joined the board just 2 find a hookup and not yell and argue about jazz like its meant for
  23. i think it would be the same almost because frank was a composer and his music can be played by those who know how the hell to do it, eg. n.m.brock and dweezil zappa franks son. hell in the 80s frank hardly played guitar at the shows at all, instead conducting the overall proceedings
