  1. i spun this today and decided to sell it back (after having it in my collection a long time)- I'm starting to really wonder if Miles taking Herbie and Wayne really meant "progress". Give me Wayne with Art Blakey over anything, thats where hes really playing some stuff. Im sorry dawg, im just not feelin this one anymore.
  2. went to a Kuhn masterclass with in depth Q&A 7 yrs ago- this would of been a good question
  3. If Coltrane didn't like Red Garland's playing, why did he record with him so much, he wasnt a "house" pianist for Prestige, the same way Hank Jones was for Savoy, i dont think
  4. wait wait wait 1st of all you guys gotta understand the format- the people being honored do not play. each person/group being honored will have a separate tribute performance. in waynes case maybe joe lovano or lee konitz if they are smart might be cool, i dont know then with cher, who knows maybe katy perry'll come out in a classic cher costume, i dont know.
  5. you cant tell me you a) like the jazz sounds of blue note records and concurrently b) dislike cher
  6. must explain why i never see them, especially the ronnie foster
  7. when it comes to smooth jazz, i like my smooth jazz with yusef lateef, not kenny g
  8. https://www.ebay.com/itm/CD-PAUL-CHAMBERS-1st-Bassman-Suite-Beat-Records-SBCD-2015/291166511849?hash=item43cae062e9%3Ag%3Aiv0AAOxyw3NTl5wt&_nkw=suite+beat&_from=R40&rt=nc&_dcat=176984&LH_TitleDesc=0 someone get this, you can hear paul way better than on the lp, youll be impressed. hes asking 30 or make an offer, really 20 would be more than fair for the title, but it is on the other hand also pretty rare
  9. must add, this i one of the best early lp masterings ive heard....it can be cranked with spectacular fidelity- sound quality on charlie parker sounds great and espically kessel's guitar cuts right through
  10. i have never seen this in the bins, ever. must find! cti, from 1979, would of expected to see this sometime
  11. so dawg this is -not- a white label prom??? but the stock issue, i think? i cant find a different colored label for the mercury issue- i guess this one has a complicated history appearing on mercury, then clef, then verve...
  12. trade you a grilled cheese + two ice cold fattys for it dawg? +
  13. took my Portrait of Cannonball out of the shrink today, there was no special sticker, it was crispy + yellowed, and crap i kept it on there sixty freaking years it wasnt protecting the jacket at all so i thought screw it and i took it off, looks a lot better IMO. It was a pretty involved process though
  14. is this the closest bluenote ever came to a record in the grp-style? also i was suprised to look up an see theres TONS of 1990-91-92 bn releases....so i actually dont know when the vinyl cutoff was before the comeback, somewhere between 89 and 91?
  15. sold out in 1 hr, 15 min. Funny everyone wants to rip on 1983 and then BOOM. Its as simple as this: group sound that year was new enough to bring new life to the classics. The Yamaha GS-1 is center to this. Someone was hating on me on the announcement talking about jerry frog throat. There is only like a handful (small handful) of shows im uncomfortable with cause of j.f.t and none of them are even in 1983
  16. was wondering if thats coleman hawkins or who else is on sax on this, theres some really amazing solos- mine is way cleaner than this one, almost ZERO background noise (0!)
  17. im proud of you guys for seeking out new interesting jazz concerts, at this point i dont try to find any new jazz like some of the pics u guys posted but i know thats good stuff i just am not happy w/ that esp w. cover charge, in fact the only jazz show i think im gonna see get this year is McCoy Tyner.-
