  1. yes but how much of that is the bands fault and how much the producer. look i dont know the ins and outs of jazz production and i know there is some but its not exactly like theyre making a todd rundgeren lp here. its way more organic than that. I know exactly what youre talking about, about Caramba- but i think we can blame some of this not necessarily on the producer, but I think we should look in Rudys corner or whoever handled the tape at liberty perhaps-, cause to me theres always been something screwy about the sound of the tape this was cut from or maybe the actual master. I was astonished to discover the lp shares the same problems as the cd, one of the few cases i was extremely disappointed in the cd vs lp difference amount on a blue note. And i can tell you definitively they overdubbed the cowbell and at the time I asked Benny Maupin that I was really kind of astonished that BN overdubbed something, but much much later i saw the youtube vid of bob crawnshaw explaining the all the edits in sidewinder, and i thought wow yea they were messing with things a lot actually
  2. never seen a stage pic in there before, the stage looks bigger than i imagined it

  6. very much so. the concord plastic, although doesnt stick to the vinyl like capitols plastic at the time, i dont think it does the lp any favors- i always upgrade them!
  7. why was it his only BN album. i wonder why they only gave him a one hot deal. blue not were kind of bastards sometime, like not signing barry harris
  8. oh dawg i need this one, but how do you find a nice pressing of concords, they are in those destructive concord bags. i dont see a cd issue on discogs, you know ive passed over on great stuff on this label cause of condition.
  9. have you ever heard this one, not spinnin it but heard it today, its 1/2 amazing hard bop (yes hard bop) and 1/2 sappy vocal ballads. but the sequenced the songs together not side a/side b.
  10. btw this is one of the 1st jazz records i ever had-- also one of my favorite art covers- very vibrant colors, the jpg doesnt do it justice

  13. ive been studying it but i got confused with i saw all these 10" covers ive never seen before. thanks you guys. saw him + frank morgan two times, even then i knew that when it came to seeing some jazz, pretty much no one is going to jam more than that lineup one of those times was on actual central ave, home of many art farmer + frank morgan concerts through the years

  17. A massive hole in the collection.......is there a later prestige compilation that includes the early 10" discs like the one w/ sonny rollins--- OK! i found one that covers some of this stuff--- anyone know of others like this? thx!
  18. fun fact: although hank and lee were probs the quintessential hard bop sax-tpt team, they weren't particularly close, friendship wise, they weren't enemies or anything like that, no no- but hank was much closer to say walter bishop jr, but hank and lee did have a fantastic working relationship
  19. Pharoah and Neil is definitely a festival in and of itself
