first of all i swear to god i looked at the campaign last night. because i discovered the just posted campaign for alphonse mouzon, and the next featured related link was Bobs, which I had seen prior, but i clicked and viewed and thought about it, very end of night- in addition to sonny of course, one of the very best part of the whole sonny concert experience was seeing bob cranshaw. one important thing about him i learned by being around him was that he was very proud of was his involvement with TV show Sesame St. he was very proud of his role in what that show did for people. i asked him why he used a fender electric bass on rough n tumble but acoustic bass on hank mobley albums and he said stanley asked him to bring it to the session, and hank was going for a more straight ahead thing. I saw Bob outside of a Sonny performance once....he was a special guest at a huge all star concert at ucla- so i saw the Sidewinder (& "gettin around") rhythm section: Barry Harris / Bob Cranshaw / Billy Higgins + Charles Lloyd rock "Sweet Georgia Brown"....

i think what this guy might be talking about is some columbia lps at this time said mastered on the xxx-something columbia disc-computer....

hank never got to hear one of his own albums on cd. Dippin came out in japan weeks after he passed.

well both sides are way above amateur, i never even really considered that. next time i play it ill a/b it with the jo stafford to make sure it isnt a dub of that first off

id really like to see a new issue of this session, this tape hasnt been pulled much i dont think either. this is almost his best session.

ill tell u this, i was in line to meet him and a young student kindly asked him, do you have any stories you would like to share, about Paul Desmond? Jim Hall just shrugged and said, "no, not really.......but ill tell you this, he would of made a really good old guy." it was the saddest thing ive ever experienced

i had an extreme authentic zappa experience with 3 nights of ike willis band feat. prarie prince. the voice of zappas muisc, 1978-1993. he sang some classics, like montana & dirty love and some of his famous recordings with frank like outside now and bamboozeled by love.
