  5. Duke Ellington was the 1st jazz musican to go on US currency. the DC quarter! but if NYC is going to name a street after a jazz muscian, it should be Charlie Parker. Charlie Parkers life is more 'new york' than miles's story. Bird deserves this more
  6. so was this 'jazzwise' site 'patient zero' of this mess? i checked it out for a sec to try and spot that apology, sux when most of the 'jazz news' is obituaries. i notice its from the UK. they obviously got their wires crossed with something, with this. theyre all the way in the UK, why would they break the story. does not compute
  7. always wished i could see him in concert. closest opp, or rather only opp i could have had was in 2008 he played the vancouver jazz festival. but this was a time period where i was not driving very much, and certainly not long dist.
  8. no jazz musican has done more to unite the music of this world
  9. i am absolutely stricken. without him jazz would be a COMPLETELY different entity. RIP
  10. Wes quartet w/ harold mabern, wabc-fm live at the half note 1965
  11. Prestige Coltrane > Atlantic + Impluse! Coltrane
  12. no, that wasnt the hoax, the hoax was very early this yr, jan or feb- rip julian appeared on a blog of some sort, next morn it was all over my f'book feed, the next day, was declared completly untrue.
  13. this has happened a few times recently. i recall julian priester and a similar situation earlier this year. so pleased to hear it was a hoax, and not reality.
  14. [EDITIN' MY POST IN LIGHT OF THE NEW SPECTACTULAR NEWS THAT HORACE IS WITH US]
  15. RIP. one time at a jim hall concert i was at, this young japanese fan asks jim hall: "do you have any stories to share about paul desmond". jim hall says: "no, not really....but i will tell you this: paul would have made a really good old guy." it was really sad, and i never forgot it. well jim hall did get to be an old guy, but now he is gone too.
  16. its really amazing dawg. have u ever heard merry claytons cover of gimme shelter? its akin to that. an amazing cover of "dreams".
  17. and according to wikipeidia, the last living brother joe, just died a matter of DAYS ago........there might be an obit to find... http://www.latimes.com/obituaries/la-me-1208-passings-20131208,0,7881454.story HERE IT IS.....
  18. http://www.californiacompanieslist.com/modern-music-publishing-co-17roy/ here, i just found this, i think this is important. april 1984. that might of been the true end. god if i find a crown record with a cover of owner of a lonely heart, i am going to truly drop dead
  19. major crown find today. i have found the 2nd example of a post 1970 crown lp. and not just a little post 1970. late 70s. not as late as the 1st i found, from '79. what i found this time is from 77. still amazing. and its vol #5- more to be discovered. these are the only 2 lps i have in my collection as proof crown/modern/rpm/united/kent/bihari etc was cutting lps practically till 1980. check it out: theres 2 hotel california covers: title track & fast lane. not to hot. BUT THEN: there is a cover of DREAMS.....it is amazing. some black female LA session singer or someone on the vocal
  20. totally sktech! sounds like 1940. actually 1970. heres something that suprised me......julian priester's in the band on trombone! and a few short months later he'll joining MWANDISHI. scored both volumes of this, audience recording from vancouver. huge duke resources online it turns out, was reading up on it and some lady mentioned in a comment that she mentioned the existence of this lp to duke, duke got furious, and said to send it to stanley dance cause stanley was compiling info on all the duke boots for duke ellington.
  21. very interesting to see this come up again w/ your very good detailied new info. may i inquire how you obtained such specific session info. also still havent found either lp.
