  1. heres a chewy-pick: standing 5 feet from phil as he sings lead on "mississippi half-step". this was unique to my generation, hearing phil sing this one- it was beyond beautiful. this was about a month ago.
  2. who hangs out with Hank Mobley? who photographs the Grateful Dead on their legendary 'Europe '72' tour? who met Catherine Deneuve when she was just a schoolgirl? one man, one man only, we call him: B-R-O-W-N-I-E happppppppppy birthdayyyyyyyy!!!!
  3. i should start watching more of this, i remember a few yrs ago you guys told me about a freddie redd live feed, it was amazing
  4. fans of hard bop/african infl. beats would of enjoyed ginger baker last night. the sheer power isnt the same, but he definetly still can play
  5. interesting, i never heard of this.
  6. my #1 most want to hear reject date is the 70s grant green session with 'green acid' + 'let it rain'. missing from the bn vaults at the time when cuscana did his inventory...
  7. re- third season/alternate......how is this possible? was the alternate on the master the whole time, and this reissue is actually cut from the real master tape, so they found it? and blue note signed off on them using it? i would definetly like to aquire this edition, slice is a top is a mobley fave of mine. is the mastering of this new cd any good though, have any of you heard this
  8. he could of been known just for the songwriting, very impressive
  9. god i remember when this happened. so awful, RIP
  10. is this for reals? i saw the trio on 10/1. this was not mentioned
  11. saw pat martino this weekend, fri/sat nites- it was just like being there, in the Philly organ clubs of the 60s. the sax player, james carter, he was playing in that style. something you dont hear from horn players these days, he was in full willis jackson mode, pat was phenomenal, had a great time
  12. very interesting you all, i really would of loved to see Byrds Eye View reissued earlier, maybe even as a liberty/sunset cutout, like the 1st stereo ed. of lee morgan/Candy (All the Way)
  13. ok so i was reading about the here comes louis smith date, released on blue note. it was originally recorded for transition. but is it true that lion bought -all- the masters? thats what it was saying. cause blue note certainly never did anything with em. espically the ones was all the blue note artists, 2 byrds, watkins at large. wouldnt it be nice if BN reissued those, as part of the original 1500 series or something like that. i guess they had so much product of their own, it didnt happen- but i wanted to ask up on this--- were the transition masters really in blue notes possession?
  14. :tup And another! definetly the perfered one, i bet- even though its a copy of the atlantic tape, who cares, when the vinyl qual. is like 1000% superior....
  15. great wk, saw keith jarrett + the pet shop boys
  16. like w/ Bird, i love how theres such a wealth of live recordings of Wardell.
  17. cool!!!! i hope its exactlty if not greater than the soporanos finale, dont stop believin/journey. if this brings baby blue back as big as that, id really be amazed. like every club u pass goin down the street, their jammin an electro-remix of baby blue. i wonder if like the sidewinder will ever get on a tv show finale, and the sidewinder becomes popular again, and theres 12'' remixes of the sidewinder on the dancefloor, and all that, and every freshman college girl across america has the sidewinder on their party jamz itunes mix, it could happen you guys, its a fine line between total obscurity + superstardom
  18. how old is this cd? is this some kind of pre OJC issue of this? pinholes shouldnt affect the cds performance. but if it has those, id be really surpised if it was the ojc issue, those cds are way too new to have pinholes in them. ive never seen a cd made after 1987 have the pinholes before.
  19. i had never heard of her, until this older gentleman i know was telling me how he once dated this lady in the 70s, he couldnt remember her name for the life of him. but she was a jazz organ player, and played with gene ammons. and had 3 names. thats what he told me. i came on organissimo here, posted the facts, and i think it was chris A who suggested myers, i ask my friend about it- he says yes absolutely.
  20. thats so awesome they named a park after him
  21. it must of been hard to choose a final tracklist, how did you go about that
  22. sounds awesome. so yr sayin you used to play w/ bartz more freq but lately youve only played w/ him a few times the last 15 yrs?
  23. you said it,--- what a chop-job. i bet who ever was the graphic designer for this, has only seen like 4 columbia covers i would of gone for something like this....
