  1. http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/97336/Lee_Morgan-Cornbread-Vinyl_Record it says vinyl record, (but its only 19.98, isnt that a little low for them?) this has been on my wishlist for years, ive always thought cornbread as a slightly "muddy" or "dark" quality to the sound, id really love to hear what could be done w/ this. i really hope this release turns out to be on par w/ the other releases (eg sidewinder 45rpm set)
  2. god, absolutely- met him twice many years apart, both times awesome. the recent time, i had a real complex question about "Rough 'n Tumble", i needed to know all about how he got an elec. fender bass on a blue note session, and why he didnt brick it back 3 mos later for "Hi Voltage". I also could tell by his other convo, that he is very proud of the work he did on Sesame St.
  3. so i scored a few dial 78s, so its Diz, right? then why is one of the 78s i see in the series, they put dizzys real name on one of them (dial 1001 dynamo/round about midnight), but all the others are gabriel.
  4. is the hank version the only recording of waynes "venus"? is it on a wayne album too?
  5. listening to above lp now
  6. He is on the art pepper album, live at dontes 68. RIP
  7. thank you previous generation GW lovers for puttin this one out. this lp is so necessary. excelsior material from the 40s, sounds great too.
  8. Basra NY usa mono kudos to pete la roca for makin a real unique bn record, it really has no peers, its a very inventive record, and doesnt sound like any of the others of the period. maybe gMIII evolution but thats a stretch....
  9. exactly. u can put it this way: there will be no newly done mastering work of unheard blue note treasures, or lp cuts that still havent been released on cd......
  10. i feel u dawg, i had an amazing listening experience to OPEN YOUR EYES YOU CAN FLY a few days ago. kendun stampers on both sides too.
  11. this is ridiculous, when they say complete catalog they mean the complete catalog of all the stuff that has been domestically released on a prior digital format.
  12. i was lookin at the site and cant find this now but i might be remembering wrong....besides Blue John- album, is there other examples of these to together. i cant think of anymore blue note sessions, but i think there was a more recent album released by either patton or braith.....does anyone remember this....
  13. --baby face willette argo promo, regular color label, denoted as promo / b side= blank white label, grooved side, but its a silent groove, 1 sided baby face promo single "Amen", from 8ball. next: live! the blues from louisiana- illionis jacquet & arnett cobb w/ milt buckner. town hall nyc live 1973, another crown records related product i have never seen or heard of before
  14. i like the 85 recordings!
  15. theres oughtta be some video of 70s groove. ill report back if i find something good
  16. april 84 shows are incredible- its the peak of West LA Fadeaway, the groove they got on todays date the 13th and apr. 21 is just right. the 4/21 help->slip->franklin sequence is also an all time top pick of mine, check it out
  17. good god, RIP. saw the Crusaders not too long ago, maybe a year, prob. two.... Wayne Henderson, Wilton Felder, Joe Sample, no Stix. Wilton & Wayne signed my copy of Wilton's Bullitt lp on World Pacific, that Wayne produced. Someone took it back for me, I didnt get to have an interaction. RIP
  18. dont you guys on here love how the 1st dew was taped by Rudy Van Gelder....lol!
  19. happy birthday, perhaps celebrate by spoolin up the Mobley 68 tape thats thats the closest thing there is to the master....lets just call it the master, ok?
  20. thank you for the name of the label, ill look it up
  21. its the real deal. the horace band photo set is astonishing. 500 gets that
  22. im just kinda amazed and happy that theyre reissuing all this stuff at all, let alone on vinyl, in 2014. today i saw a new lp reissue of donald byrd- KOFI, but it was manufactured in the EU, and i have a bad feeling its from a DAT source, so i passed. these us bn offical reissues will be better than whats already out there, perhaps. i think a lot of it has to do w/ access to tapes. there is a reason why lee morgan- charisma or blue mitchell- heads up are not pulled from the vault as often, but i really dont know why. it is not easy to get certain tapes, when others have been checked out many times
