  1. One of the best written? That's certainly debatable. I'm glad that you enjoy it. There was and is a historical Jesus! He wasn't born the 25th of December but it's when his birth is observed. He's your Savior too! I hope you come to see that some day. Merry Christmas to you and to all.
  2. I've done grown quite sick of that song as well as his bandmate's little Christmas ditty. Despite that, Merry Christmas everyone! The Savior is born!
  3. Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War - Karl Marlantes
  4. Carl Smith - Satisfaction Guaranteed (5-CD, Bear Family) Well, I treated myself to my first Bear Family box set. I'm a bit concerned I'm starting an expensive trend for myself, I've already got my eye on 3 more. I spent about what a Mosaic would cost but rationalized my purchase since some CD sales and some easy side money covered a little more than half of it.

  6. I grabbed one of those for myself. $14.00 and change delivered. Mine was still sealed with the bar code exposed and blacked out. One of the best bargains of the year!
  7. 29 total made up of 6 Selects and 23 of the big boxes, 13 of which are -gasp- CDRs which were sets that were out of print at the time I acquired them. That'll probably be it for me. I can't think of anything out there in or OOP right now that I'd actively seek out. Right now I have my eye on a handful of Bear Family box sets which are even more expensive than the Mosaics! Yikes!
  8. A little break from jazz: The Louisiana Hayride Story (4-CD)
  9. I play Santa to myself as well throughout the year but what I was getting at for people reading the post was doing something special or out of the ordinary for yourself for Christmas. I mentioned that I would like to pick up some Bear Family box sets. Normally, they would be a luxury I wouldn't allow myself because they are so expensive. If I get some money for Christmas, I may be a Santa to myself and get myself a Bear Family box which I wouldn't have gotten myself otherwise.
  10. Is anyone here going to be a Santa to themselves this Christmas season? I know the people in my life don't like giving me expensive music from artists they've never heard of or can't pick up at their local Target or Walmart. Maybe the season of giving will just inspire you to give to yourself. Maybe you'll be getting some money for Christmas and will be picking up that music/box set you've had your eye on or that you normally wouldn't spend as much money on. For me, I wouldn't mind picking up some Bear Family box sets for myself.
  11. Just read what you have to go through just to order from them. What a colossal hassle! Why would anyone subject themselves to this? Desperation is all I can think of. "Send a letter indicating which titles you would like (specific product number). Attach a check for $15.98 plus $3.50 S/H for each CD, not each order. (Please note that the web-based prices do not apply do Special Orders). Please attach your email address so we can notify you. Send the letter to 1201 Music Americas, PO Box 500 - Special Orders, Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716 Upon receipt, we will the check whether the CDs are still available. If there is 50% or more of your order available, we will ship the order and attach a check with a refund for any unfilled portion of the order. If there is less than 50%, we will notify you via email as to what you want to do. Please note that we do not accept credit cards. Also, please note that the shipping will take approximately four weeks, and that all CDs will be shipped via postal mail (thus, please make sure that we have the correct shipping address for you)."
  12. Are there any deals anywhere on Bear Family boxes? The best deals I could find on sets I was interested in ran about $18.00 per disc.
  13. I'm unfamiliar with James Moody but I may have heard his playing with someone else without knowing it. What are some of his "shouldn't miss" recordings? Funds are a bit tight right now so I just ordered his 4-CD Quadromania set for $5.95 to get the most bang for my buck and get some exposure to his early work spanning 1941-1955. I tend to like an artist's early work so it's probably a good starting point for me.
  14. "Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to stay on my toes"

  16. Certainly would be a shame to see Mosaic close. I can't say that I'd disagree, but I was only speaking for me. If Mosaic's success rides on me and my suppport, then they better start updating their resumes. Unfortunately, I already spend too much money on music and then there's the guilt that comes with that. For me and my budget, that drives me to find the best deal possible to reduce the hit on my wallet and guilt for spending money I probably shouldn't be spending on music in the first place. (None of the titles in the True Blue sale are even Mosaic titles, they're reselling other people's product.) I understand that not everyone is going to agree with me but when someone is given the price choice for a desired product and one of those prices is signicicantly lower, the majority are probably going to go for the lower price. If there are those out there who can and choose to spend more money than they have to for an item then I say, carry on! Unfortunately, it's not a luxury I can afford.
  17. Just a cursory search for a new set on Amazon or Amazon marketplace and not looking anywhere else: Basie Decca $20.99 vs. $34.98 Evans' Waltz $89.83 vs. $110.98 Ella's Complete Songbook $165.31 vs. $219.98 Dex's Complete Prestige $88.82 vs. $119.98 Bird box is closer to competitive $105.22 vs. $109.98 Talking Jazz box can be had cheaper at True Blue $340.05 vs. $219.98
  18. It takes little to no effort to find much better deals on box sets than the sale prices offered at True Blue. When it comes to music, a better deal will win out over altruism every time.
  19. Boogaloo Joe Jones - Legends Of Acid Jazz and Snake Rhythm Rock/Black Whip Funk Inc. - Funk Inc./Chicken Lickin' Roy Hargrove - Of Kindred Souls
  20. Two sellers are offering it at a great price. Unfortunately, they don't ship to the U.S.
  21. 30% off all items in your order at Secondspin.com when you spend $30.00 or more. Use promo code CYBER30 at check out. (Today, 11/29 only of course.)
  22. Rats! Right points, wrong team.
  23. Are there any cyber Monday deals out there that we should be aware of?
