Blue Note Highlights Collectors Box(8-CD) Currently less than $41.00 at the link above. Might be a nice gift for a budding jazzer. -
Shouldn't that date be 1958?

I thought this was kind of cool. It looks like the guy needs to increase the tension on his strings. Bass strings in slow motion

I finally received my BlowItOutaHere order, 16 days after having ordered it. It was sent via UPS Mail Innovations. I'm happy with the transaction and BlowItOutaHere but I have to say that I'm unimpressed with a 14-day delivery from Kentucky to Minnesota. I'll make a mental note for next time I order from them. Often great prices, but not very quick on the delivery. To their credit, their customer service was very prompt in responding to my inquiry on the delivery. I won't hesitate to use them again. -

Unfortunately, there's no tracking link which isn't too surprising, it was only a single CD. The CD was supposedly shipped 1/22. I'll just contact them with a polite inquiry and see what they have to say. -

I ordered 5 CDs after I ordered the BlowItOutaHere CD and I've already received all of them. It's not a hard-to-find CD and they are still offering it for sale on Amazon. I've ordered from them in the past with no problems. The outside delivery date for the CD is 2/14 which would make it 3 weeks from the date I ordered it. I've received orders from England in a shorter period of time. I'm optimistic that they'll take care of things if it doesn't show up without me having to file a claim through Amazon. Do you think I should contact them before 2/14? The CD was ordered 1/21 and was being shipped from KY to MN. If it was actually shipped, it shouldn't take that long. -
I don't know whether you're being sarcastic or whether I need to ask what your definition of greasy is.

My experience with MovieMars has been positive as well. Right now I'm concerned with an order placed with BlowItOutaHere. The order was placed 1/21 and supposedly shipped 1/24. It's been 10 days for something shipping from Kentucky to Minnesota? I'll relax for the time-being knowing there has been a lot of bad weather in the midwest lately but it makes you wonder when you've already received items on orders placed after the one in question. -
Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
mikelz777 replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I have been on the fence about this one for a while....I have a lot of Oscar Peterson, and that's probably the reason I haven't gotten this. I'm sure when it goes to running low (if I haven't ordered it by then) I will get it. I do have the Ahmad Jamal set and love it, so time will tell about the Oscar Peterson set. Any thoughts on this set? (I'll check previous discussion). Enjoy listening to the set ! And the Lou Donaldson set is very enjoyable and Ray Barretto is quite the addition to the music The Mosaic doubled my OP collection from 7 to 14. (I'm not counting "sideman" recordings.) To be honest with you, the only reason I have the Mosaic is because I found a copy that was only $6.96 delivered. (all 7 discs but no box/no booklet) Having said that, the music contained in the set is excellent and I'm very much enjoying it. If you already own a lot of him, there's probably not much of a reason to be in any hurry to go after this. OP is almost always excellent so this is more or less more of the same. There's still a seller on Ebay offering this set new/delivered for about $60.00. While I like Oscar, I'm not sure I'd even go for it at that price. It's agreat deal and great news for a lot of fans but my love for OP isn't really compelling enough for me to want to seek out more than I already have. I'm pretty certain this added to the 7 discs I already have will be the extent of my OP collection. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the set in any way. The performances are excellent and his vocals (sounding much like Nat King Cole) are a very welcome addition and adds nice variety to the set. I was already happy with what I had but this was a fantastic addition I couldn't pass up for $1.00/disc. -

That Lou Donaldson set is a fine one. I haven't dug it out in a while, I'll have to make a point of giving it a listen. Right now, The Complete Clef / Mercury Recordings Of Oscar Peterson Trio -

last eve i drunk a pbr, so it must be hopelessly out of fashion. Now there's a man who looks serious about his business! Wallet on the bar, a shot in one hand and a can of beer in the other. -

I like PBR as well. Hey, I must be a hipster and I didn't even know it! -

I'm starting a little early today: Cheap, unpretentious, very drinkable and it does the trick. Busch is serving as a fine accompaniment to some great country / traditional music this morning/afternoon. -
If you're enjoying that one, then be sure to check out it's sister recording, "Serenity".

Buddy Rich and Johnny Smith sets running low

I think that's a reason I like the Jazz Crusaders/Crusaders so much, because they don't sound like anything I own. (Or that I'm even aware of for that matter.) -

"Like new/perfect condition", eh? Still, a hell of a deal. My first reaction was that if the CD(s) skipped, I could always ask for a refund. Common sense prevailed when I thought about it and realized that just 1 of the discs would have been worth $6.96 and a refund request, while warranted given the description, would have been pretty silly. I'm really happy it all worked out. -
Jack Lalanne has died at 96

"When a 21-year-old Arnold Schwarzenegger first came to America in 1968, he witnessed 54-year-old Jack LaLanne down on Venice Beach in California doing thousands of push-ups and chin-ups. A challenge was declared — and Arnold, the youngest Mr. Universe at the time, went on to lose. Badly. "I beat him in chin-ups and push-ups," LaLanne says. "He [schwarzenegger] said, 'That Jack LaLanne's an animal! I was sore for four days. I couldn't lift my arms!' " -
It looks like Amazon pricing for these things is tied to the stock market or something. I've been watching an on-demand item and the pricing seems to change every 3-4 days. It's ranged from $13+ to $15+.

Buddy Rich and Johnny Smith sets running low
mikelz777 replied to golfcrazy1984's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Well, we had some pretty outstanding deals on Jazztet/Eldrige/Basie back in the day, IIRC. Perhaps not *quite* so bargaineous but in the that sort of area... Here in the States, there were similar short-lived deals to be had at various places on the Euro-Mosaics. I was able to pick up the Tal Farlow, Basie Clef/Verve Studio and the Buddy Rich for the same price or better. -

Got a shipped notice today. I'm excited to see exactly what I'll get. Hope this thing pans out. I’m not exactly sure how these Amazon fulfillment things work. I purchased this from a third-party marketplace seller but it was packaged and shipped by Amazon. I’ll give them a thumbs up on the shipping; I ordered on Monday and had it in my hands on Thursday. This turned out to be the real deal. I got all 7 original discs in their original cases with all the original artwork but no box or booklet as was stated in the description. The cases were all in excellent shape with very minor signs of scuffing from normal handling. Five of the seven discs had a perfect mirror finish. Disc 1 had a few small scuffs on the outer edge and disc 5 had a scratch extending about 1/2 inch into the inside playing surface. I previewed both discs this morning and they played flawlessly. Needless to say, this was a fantastic deal for only $6.96!! Just a couple of comments on the content of the 2 discs I’ve listened to so far. I know that the titles of jazz songs are often meaningless but I'm left wondering what the story behind the song "Pooper" is. I loved the vocals which obviously sound a lot like Nat King Cole. I’m surprised OP didn’t record more vocals. There have been lesser singers who’ve made a career out of singing. I was very pleasantly surprised by “Streets Boogie” and “Booker T. Blues” at the end of disc 5. They had a more grit and edge than the other material, particularly Barney Kessel. I’m looking forward to giving the rest of this a listen. -
I'd recommend grabbing one of these: The Louvin Brothers - Classic Album Collection 2008 three CD set containing three classic albums from the Country legends, each containing four bonus tracks: The Louvin Brothers (1957), Tragic Songs Of Life (1956) and Nearer My God To Thee (1957). 48 tracks. There are a couple of marketplace sellers selling new copies for less than $10.00.

I just discovered the Louvin Brothers in the last month or so and I'm very glad I did, they did some excellent work and are well deserving of their place in the Country Music Hall Of Fame. There aren't a whole lot of artists left from the old school.

I see that the seller of the OP Mosaic has raised his shipping price from 7 GBP to 12GBP. He must be getting a lot of overseas orders. -
I remember reading that Buck Owens fell apart emotionally and lost a lot of his interest in music when Don Rich died. On Don Rich’s death from the booklet in “The Buck Owens Collection 1959-1990”. “Buck was shattered. The alter-ego, the musical son who had blossomed under his wing, whom he depended on both in the studio and onstage, was suddenly gone. A huge void remained in Buck’s life and music and in his soul. ‘After Don’s death, I don’t think I ever quite recovered. I had such a long period of shock and such a long period of being depressed and confused and hurt that I couldn’t talk about Don much for at least four, five, or six years.’ ‘Don was incredibly important as a human being. He was as much part of the music as I was. He seemed able to read my mind. And a lotta times I would try to fool him on the stage; we had our little thing goin’. He was uncanny about catchin’ me so he could sing with me. There was never anything like that happened to me before or since. That’s the way I’ll always remember him. I finally got at peace with that.’” Rich was killed in a motorcycle accident and apparently, Buck had been trying to persuade him to stop riding a motorcycle for years and didn't want him to take his motorcycle out the very day of his death.
