LF: Bobby Hackett Mosaic
mikelz777 replied to Face of the Bass's topic in Offering and Looking For...
For what it's worth, I like Bobby Hackett and I was totally underwhelmed by this set. It's the one and only set I sent back to Mosaic and traded for another set. -
I hope not. Our microwave just went bust as well but it was probably overdue. I've had that thing for about 25 years. The plastic bumper on my wife's car has a nice dent in it from hitting a rock-hard snowbank. She'd like it fixed but I'd just as soon leave it as is. It's not going to rust and I hate to think of what they'd charge to pop it out if not replace it altogether. Stuff like this seems to happen when you think you're about to get ahead of things.

I'd recommend any of the Cecilia Coleman CDs. Hard-bop fans should like Maffy Falay Quintet - Live At The International Istanbul Jazz Festival '94 It isn't the kind of stuff I usually listen to but Maurice Brown - Hip To Bop is worth checking out.

Get free cardboard boxes from grocery store or wherever, cut to size, fold in half, tape the edges. Keep it cheap and simple.

Heck, I'd let mine go for half that!

Cowboy Bebop Original Anime Soundtrack Box Set featuring Yoko Kanno / Seatbelts. Fans of the show hardly need to be sold on the music for this series. I first saw Cowboy Bebop years ago and immediately the soundtrack caught my ear from the show's opening theme, "Tank". Check it out here-> Cowboy Bebop opening theme, "Tank" There's a lot of interesting and excellent music on these 4 discs and it's well worth acquiring. "The Real Folk Blues", Cowboy Bebop's closing theme. Real Folk Blues

None!! (Despite $100.00 burning a hole in my pocket.) Woohoo! Seven days into the New Year and I've managed to avoid any new buys so far. Listen more and buy much less is the goal this year.

Meh! -
It looks like the Russ Bassett cabinets would be the most expensive of the three options.

FYI to those who might be interested, I managed to find a number for Pacific Rim and contacted them earlier today. The old site has been taken down and a new site is under construction. They are hoping to make it available by sometime next week.

Has Pacific Rim (jdpacificrim.com) gone out of business? They made metal CD storage cabinets like the Can-am cabinets but the pricing was more affordable than than Can-am's pricing. I accessed their web site less than a month ago and it was still there. Now it is gone and emails to their email address are returned undelivered. This really bums me out because I wanted to buy two of their 3-drawer cabinets. To buy the same thing from Can-am would cost $550.00 more. Does anyone out there have a deal on a couple of black 3-drawer Can-am cabinets or know another source for the Pacific Rim cabinets?

My 101 year old mother died on New Year's Day

Just think of all the changes she's seen in her life time, it's truely remarkable. My condolences. -
Yes, but they were only doing what they should do without even asking. (When Concord sent me a wrong CD, they had me keep it and rushed the correct CD to me at no extra charge.) Have our expectations sunk so low that we consider it a virtue when online retailers actually do what they are supposed to do? (Sorry, my bitterness is still fresh. I will still probably use Oldies in the future, but only as a last resort.)

Oldies.com failed me so I ordered these titles elsewhere before they disappeared and before the prices became too prohibitive. Just a note to those who don't know or to reiterate to those who do, Oldies.com customer service is horrible unless you like non-responsive replies to any questions you might have that require any kind of effort on their part and that's assuming they even bother to reply. I like west coast jazz so to round out the Nocturne Records collection I ordered: Harry Babsin / Bob Enevoldsen - Jazz In Hollywood Virgil Gonsalves / Steve White - Jazz In Hollywood Bud Shank / Lou Levy - Jazz In Hollywood

Oh yeah? Try and pay the bills with love.

New Sherlock Holmes movie
mikelz777 replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I went to see this today and I have to say that I enjoyed it, it was good entertainment. I liked both the look and the feel of the movie and I thought Downey and Law were excellent in their roles and worked quite well together. If you are a Holmes purist and can't get past deviations of the characters from the stories then maybe this movie isn't for you. I kept an open mind and consciously tried not to make comparisons just enjoying the movie for what it was. Judging from the ending, we're likely to see a sequel. I wouldn't say that it's a "must see" but I certainly wouldn't discourage anyone from going to see it. I'd give it a solid "B". -
Interesting, thanks for the post. I suspected there must be some underlying meaning to the various gifts/days but I hadn't heard this before.
