I revisited the Oldies.com Fantasy warehouse sale and got the following in the mail today:
Herbie Harper - Jazz in Hollywood
Steve White Quartet - Jazz In Hollywood
Coleman Hawkins - The Hawk Relaxes
Three more titles were ordered but not shipped. For those of you who have experience with the warehouse sale, is it likely that these will eventually ship? None of the three are out of stock according to the web site but two of them are "limited". Past experience with their customer (dis)service doesn't exactly have me rushing to them for an answer.
Anthology Of American Folk Music (Edited By Harry Smith)
An Amazon Marketplace seller has 2-3 copies of this 6-CD set, new/sealed selling for $24.84 as of this posting. Those who are interested should grab one while they can.
Thanks for the tip on these box sets. I had no George Benson in my collection and this was a great way to pick up a handful of pre-pop Benson on the cheap.
-Bad Benson
-The George Benson Cookbook
-It's Uptown
-Body Talk
-Beyond The Blue Horizon
Great deal! $12.67 delivered.
This 4-CD box set of traditional/New Orleans revivalist music is definitely worth checking out and can be had pretty reasonably if you shop around.
Lu Watters And The Yerba Buena Jazz Band - The Complete Good Time Jazz Recordings
I never watched the original series nor did I know anything about it to compare but I'm enjoying the new series, "V". In an indirect way, the story is Biblical in nature and I'm diggin it.
This may have appeared before but I'll post it anyway. See how many balls of paper you can toss into the wastebasket. My record today was 27.
Toss paper into the wastebasket.
Does anyone happen to know if Jackie McLean's "One Step Beyond" offered at Yourmusic is the corrected version of the disc? (If so, I'd pick it up. If not, I'll pass.)
Thanks to everyone for your feedback / recommendations. Between single releases and two-fers I ended up getting:
-Ah Um
-Mingus Dynasty
-A Night At The Bohemia
-Pithecanthropus Erectus
-Tijuana Moods
-Blues & Roots
Several nice Ebay deals:
Thelonious Monk - Criss-Cross
Thelonious Monk - Straight, No Chaser
(I confess that I'm buying these as much, if not more, for Charlie Rouse than for Monk.)
Chet Baker/Bud Shank - Theme Music from The James Dean Story
Herbie Harper - Herbie Harper Sextet!
Charles Mingus - Blues & Roots
Wynton Marsalis - Live At The Village Vanguard (7-CD)
I wasn't in the market for this but I happened across a new copy of this set for less than $12.00 delivered so I thought it was probably well worth taking a chance on it.
Addendum: Alas, my great deal is not to be, the order was cancelled. Amazon totally removed the listing from my order history so I can't even leave any kind of feedback.
From the many great suggestions in the Charles Mingus thread, I bought a pair of titles to accompany the Ah Um 50th Anniversary (Legacy Edition). (Ah Um / Mingus Dynasty 2-fer)
Night at Cafe Bohemia/Pithecanthropus Erectus Session (2-CD)
Tijuana Moods
I'll try these on for size for a while and see if or where I might wanna go after that.
