  1. My exception would be Gary McFarland. And the Jazz Crusaders/Crusaders.
  2. -bowed bass -drum solos -avant garde -singing -scatting
  3. This was a fun listen. The Asian instruments lend themselves very well to bluegrass music. Asian twist on bluegrass music
  4. Are there any Ellington experts out there who can positively ID this song and if so, what album it might have appeared on?
  5. What is the music being played in this video? (see link below) Reading through the comments, posters mention "E and D Blues" by the Duke Ellington Orchestra (w/Johnny Hodges) and another said it was something off of Ellington's "Blues In Orbit". I've heard a sample of "E and D Blues" and it sounds like that could be it but obviously, there was no Ella vocal in the video, it's an instrumental. Can anyone here positively ID the tune and if so, on what album would I find it? [The video's pretty cool by the way, the featured couple are a lot of fun to watch.] What is this song?
  6. I've been very happy with my Membran releases. Listening to them, I can't think of a time I was left wanting and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of their releases if the right one came along.
  7. I was already done with the LP format by the time I got into jazz so I don't have any jazz related stuff to share. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I bought Bruce Willis' album back in the day. It was still new with shrink wrap but some woman had kissed Willis' face on the cover and left a very distinct lip imprint from her lipstick. I liked it so much, I just slit the edge open so I could get the album out and left the shrink wrap on. I don't think that one got too many listens after the first couple of times.
  8. $26.00 "used-like new" is a little more reasonable. You may want to put it on an Amazon wish list and watch it over time. I picked up this set used but the discs were mint for $16.00. I wanted it but wasn't "hot" for it so I just kept an eye on it from time to time for over a year when I got it at that couldn't pass it up price.
  9. Oh no. Not that. Guys have to like the Stooges. It's right there in the guy by-laws. The only question is Curly or Shemp? One of the reasons I'm with the gal I've been with for the last 15 years is that when I first met her, she told me she had every Stooge short ever made on VHS. I knew right then, she was the one for me. Chris, were you a W.C. Fields or a Marx Brothers fan? Those two acts are at the top of my list. How about Seinfeld? Just curious. I guess I earn a black mark on my guy card, I never really enjoyed the Stooges or found them very funny. (I vote for Curly) I'm guessing it's that broad, physical comedy that doesn't really work for me. I can't comment on W.C. Fields, I've never seen any of his work. I've always enjoyed the Marx Brothers. I also have a warm spot for a lot of Laurel and Hardy's stuff. I think Seinfeld has to rate among the best of more modern day comedians. I really enjoy his show. As far as Sandler goes, he's rarely a hit and mostly a miss for me. I like a small percentage of his body of work. (Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, Punch Drunk Love)
  10. I'll always remember him from McHale's Navy but he made his biggest impression on me playing Shack in The Emporer Of The North Pole with Lee Marvin and Keith Carradine.
  11. Cannonball Adderley Django Reinhardt Bix Beiderbecke
  12. The Electric Fetus was born in 1968 so it's a name that is reflective of its time. I've been to 2 of their 3 locations and they are pretty cool stores.
  13. I haven't heard that there will be a third season. I was a bit disappointed with the wrap up, the two villains just didn't seem to have been properly fore-shadowed. But. . . it was a good run up to the final two. I just assumed there would be a new season, I didn't know the decision was still up in the air. A third season definitely has my vote. I wasn't part of the contingent that was upset over the killer not being revealed at the end of the 1st season but I didn't have to wait however many months for the 2nd season to start. Just before the 2nd season started I watched the entire 1st season over the course of several days so it was one continuous, unbroken story for me. Even so, I don't think I would have been bummed out if I had watched the series conventionally. Maybe initially but that only would have fueled the anticipation and excitement for the start of the 2nd season. I loved that I was kept in suspence and made to keep guessing over the course of two seasons. I thought they did an excellent job of that and I loved that I never guessed who the actual killer was until the moment they were revealed. I'm usually disappointed if I'm able to figure it out in advance. I love the chemistry between Linden and Holder and I would like to see more of them.
  14. I just watched the 2nd season ender for The Killing earlier today. I thought both seasons were great and I was happy with how they ended things for the 2nd season. So what are they going to do for the 3rd season? It looks like Richmond may not be as clean as he was made to appear earlier. Are we done with the Larsons? Holder and Linden are great together and I hope that that continues. I don't think we're done with Jackson and Ames yet.
  15. I think I want to like it more than I actually like it. I'm a big fan of the earlier, more jazz oriented Byrd so this one never made it into the collection. I don't dislike it but I didn't like it enough to pick it up.
  16. I see that it's rated a "rotten tomato" on rottentomatoes.com ranking a 40 out of 100. I don't see many true Dark Shadows fans enjoying it but there are a lot of people who will go see anything if Johnny Depp is in it. I'll be avoiding it in the theater, on DVD and when it eventually shows on TV.
  17. My wife and I enjoyed Twin Peaks when it originally aired and considered it "must see TV". Recently we decided to watch it again after all these years via Netflix. It didn't really age well for us. I think we only made it to the 2nd disc and lost interest.
  18. I LOVE that they now play all the samples rather than having to sit there and click on each individual song.
  19. Ah, thank you for that. I was thinking that maybe it was a Wales thing.
  20. Good grief; I see George Formby on that sleeve!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Furds wail me! MG He's featured on the entirety of the 3rd disc, 26 songs. Furds wail me? That's a new one for me. What does that mean?
  21. I would have been interested to see where they would have taken it. I was a bit surprised that the story line with his superiors' wrongdoings was resolved. I thought it would have carried over into an anticipated 2nd season. I wouldn't have wanted to see more of the confounded partners/parallel reality coincidences aiding in the investigations thing to continue. That would just be boring and repetitive. I would have hoped that they would have maintained the what is real and what is not thing in some creative way. In a way I agree that maybe it's better that it ended. That way, it still has me guessing, it was entertaining and it didn't decay into some kind of disappointing rut.
  22. I'm wondering if neither reality is true and that both his wife and son are dead. Both of his psychiatrists insist that the other is not real and that he is creating the other reality in his head. Maybe we should take them at their word, conclude that neither is real and that he's creating both "realities" containing either his wife or his son in his head and/or dreams. Both psychiatrists who insisted that the other was not real came together in the last episode discussing their client with each other. Would that have happened if either were real or did it only happen in Michael's dream or created "reality"? Maybe all of these commonalities he's finding between the two realities which have been aiding him in his investigations aren't as serendipitous as they seem. Maybe these coincidences are there because both of these realities only exist in his head and that they are just showing us how procedurally, either consciously or subconsciously, he's putting evidence strings together. I don't know if this theory fits with everything in the show but it has me wondering if there isn't something to it.
