Did anyone else catch the "Retouched Cover on The Way" note on the front of the Workout cd? Strange, I think I'll wait on it, as I already have the McMaster.

I jumped the gun because I was still frothing at the next RVG batch!!!

Sorry guys, I posted the other day that the 2nd batch od DualDisk remasters would be out on Feb 7th. I was wrong, the release date is actually 2/14. My apologies.
-
Picked up the Dual Disc rms of Reman in Light today. I had a chance to listen to some of the bonus tracks and they are really excellent works. This is my first foray into Dualdisc, but I havent had a chance to really listen to the sound quality to see if it's really an upgrade on the old releases. So far as I can tell, they sound pretty good on their own merit. The 2nd batch of remasters is coming out Feb 7th.

Brighten the Corners for me as well. Wowee Zowie is okay but its a litle too wide ranging...too many duds IMO. TT is okay, but pales in comparison to the first three, which to me, IS Pavement. I'm intriqued by the Gold Sounds cd...though it seems like an odd choice for these guys, Pavement is at heart a free form Rock Band. I never thought the arrangements were as gloriously schizo as many Fall tunes are, but the whole presentation of the band, minus the vocal style and recalls The Fall in their mid 80's incarnation.

Funny...it could have been ME who posted that!! heh

What? ← Did you just sepnd a bunch of money on YOUR car insurance too? I'm gonna put in my .02 if yuh don't mind. I freaking LOVE this...bonus tracks first? Please!! Great sound? Thank you. I file it under "M". I havent listened to this one since my turntable broke several years ago, but putting it on, I could have sworn it wasnt a day since I last heard it, THEN I realized that the bonus trackers were on there first. Let me just say I have a whole new apreciation for this now that it has been re-issued on this format.

I found this song written by Chuck Brodsky Dock Ellis’s No-No It was a lovely summer’s morning An off-day in LA So thought one Dock Ellis As he would later say His girlfriend read the paper She said, “Dock, this can’t be right... It says here that you’re pitching In San Diego tonight” “Got to get you to the airport” And so off Dock Ellis flew His legs were a little bit wobbly And the rest of him was too Took a taxi to the ballpark An hour before the game Gave some half-assed explanation Found the locker with his name Time came to go on out there Down the corridor The walls were a little bit wavy There were ripples in the floor He went out to the bullpen To do a bunch of stretches Loosen up a little Throw his warm-up pitches All rose for the national anthem People took off their hats Fireworks were exploding The cokes were already going flat Dock was back there in the dugout So many things to watch Some players spit tobacco juice Others grabbed their crotch The umpire hollered, “Play Ball!” And so it came to be Dock’s Pirates batted first And when they went down 1-2-3 Dock’s catcher put his mask on And he handed Dock the ball It was 327 feet To the right & left field walls The Pirates took the field then And Dock stood on the rubber He bounced a couple of pitches And then he bounced a couple others You might say about that day He looked a little wild The lead-off batter trembled Nobody knew why Dock Ellis smiled You walk 8 and you hit a guy The things that people shout... Especially your manager But he didn’t take Dock out Dock found himself a rythym And a crazy little spin Amazing things would happen When Dock Ellis zeroed in Sometimes he saw the catcher Sometimes he did not Sometimes he held a beach balll Other times it was a dot Dock was tossing comets That were leaving trails of glitter At the 7th inning stretch He still had a no-hitter So he turned to Cash, his buddy Said, “I got a no-no going” Speaking the unspeakable He went back out there throwing Bottom of the ninth & He stood high upon the mound 3 more outs to go He’d have his name in Cooperstown First up was Cannizzaro Who flied out to Alou Kelly grounded out for Dean The shortstop yelled, “That’s two” It must’ve been a mad house The fans upon their feet The littler ones among them Standing on their seats Next up would’ve been Herbel But Spezio pinch-hit He took a 3rd strike looking And officially, that was it It was a lovely summer’s morning An off-day in LA So thought one Dock Ellis As he would later say There's also the song Bill Lee by Warren Zevon You're supposed to sit on your ass and nod at stupid things Man, that's hard to do And if you don't, they'll screw you And if you do, they'll screw you, too When I'm standing in the middle of the diamond all alone I always play to win When it comes to skin and bone And sometimes I say things I shouldn't Like.... And sometimes I say things I shouldn't Like.... They don't make players like this anymore. They don't make songwriters like this anymore either.

You know the Warriors winning percentage for the Baron Davis part of the season was equal to 57 wins proacted for the whole season. That is easily good enough for the 4 spot in any year. It's rare for Warriors fans to actually KNOW we have a chance to be good next season. Been a long wait!

Here's to you, Mrs. Robinson...heaven holds a place for those who pray. RIP

Byrd/Adams goes straight to "Last Chance"
Jazzdog replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thanks for the heads up!!! It's almost around the time of year my Mom starts bugging me about what I want for Christmas, so I beat her to the punch for a change!! -
I always thought it was about Ricky Martin and smoking joits!

Just goes to show you how SD lyrics can bring up a multitude of connotations, each different to a man. Jack of Speed is in fact or at least I deciphered it as a song in fact, about speed, "yes Teddys rolling now most everynight...skating backwards at the speed of light, he's changed...". The relationship between the two antagonists is definetly challenged by the things Teddy is indulging in. The guyshere kind of go along with my hypothesis But the guys If you've ever heard the original lyrics on this (I believe they played it live in 93/94), they are slightly more overt. Chain Lightning is definetly about Nazi Germany and sideshow rallies that tended to dominate the day. The fever dreams website is pretty cool, however, when i am listening to the Dan my mind is not so much on the lyrics, per se, but how the words and the music create a symbiotice whole, One cannot survive without the other. It seems to be a fact that Dan lyrics float too far abouve the heads of the casual music listener, I can't seem to find a girlfriend who apreciates them as much as I do. in facvt my last two serious girlfriends hated them as much as I love them.

I am putting this on my birthday wish list!! Love Byrd, Pepper Adams always impresses me. If the Half Note material is only half as good aas the stuff onthe Mosaic, then the Mosaic should be pretty hot!!!
-
Agreed, whenever I listen to them, especially the early Josie material (reissued by Sundazed) the funk gets so deep, I gotta dig myself out. If I listen to them in the car, I start to swerve out of control cuz I just cant let up on the groove, the dashboard and steering wheel gets quite the beating!

One Flight Up has long been a sentimental favorite of mine, and as I have not heard most of these albums, out of the ones I have heard Go is probably the tightest, most fully realised of all the Dex BN's I have heard. I voted for OFU, becuase I didn't want to just be another of the throng to vote for Go, but its pretty much a toss up imho.

When I statred learning how to play bass I took a music improvisation class where one assignment was to be able to walk the bassline to So What. I got the intro down and got to jam on the lick with a few soloists. It was hard to do and I never really developed my jazz skills past that point, but it was a great way to learn to play and be introduced to jazz at the same time. I became better at listening to music rather than playing it. I just gave up far too early! So What has a special place in my heart, but I love All Blues just as much now, if not more!

Thrust is superior imo to Headhunters mereley due to the Jackson/Clark rhythm section. Mike Clark funkiest damn drummer I think I have ever heard, right next to Zigaboo Modeliste.
-
Are these still going to be available as seperate 2 disc sets? Jazzmatazz has no info on this anymore.
-
Personally I'd rather listen to the Captains music than look as his artwork...that one is pretty cool. Run paint run run!!

Cake, no frosting!! If there is indeed frosting, I would still eat it, but if it came to a choice between cake w/frosting and pie, as long as there is whipped cream, then I choose pie. If no whip cream, I take the cake with frosting.

Yeah, I don't know, but it reminds me of the printer commcercial with the song that sounds a bit like the Kinks "picture book, pictures of your mama, takn by your papa a long time ago" Anyone know who does that one?

I'm suprised he didn't include Atomic Rooster's Nice and Greasy... http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000025Q...SCMZZZZZZZ_.jpg
