My diet approximates Scott's. (Just about! ) Well, don't take this the wrong way, but your caskets will, eventually, have to be loaded with a crane. POP TARTS ONCE A WEEK, MAXIMUM!!! I COMMAND IT AND I WILL BE MONITORING COMPLIANCE. I only say this because I care. I already have ONE woman telling me what I should eat! I don't think I need another one!

Y aknow, I never loved it, but I am considering getting that and Relayer. In high school, my friends and I used to sit around, smoke pot and listen to Tales, I have very good memories of that time, and little of it have to do with the music. I remember I used to be obsessed with The Wall and I used to watch it every day after I came home from school. I guess it just felt comforting at the time. Ahhhhhh, the folly of youth!!!

Replace my failing VCR with a cheapo?? Or TiVo??
Jazzdog replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yeah I think I'd rather just get a combo player, as long as I had another dvd player around just in case it hacks up. Right before her VCR broke Miranda bought a bunch of cheap VHS tapes at Amoeba...She was so excited at her goldmine, that no less than two weeks later the thing started acting up...needless to say its not working at all now and it has not been replaced. Furthermore, I was recently shopping around find a new shelf unit cd player and I couldn't find any that just play cds. Everything now is DVD but the technolog is the same so they read everything. It's almost inexcusable at this point in time to not had a dvd player. -
Yeah it was such an attempt to repeat past glories that it missed the mark for me, as has 90% of the post 90125 Yes

How Many Mosaics That You Own, But NOT Opened Yet
Jazzdog replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I just wonder whats the point in having the stuf if it's not even gonna be listened to. Boggles the mind. On mypart I cant even wait to get home to open some new music I've bought. When the Mosaic comes in the mail I cant get it unwrapped fast enough. I guess thats just MY thing though right? -
Drama is my favorite Yes album hands down, and coupled with a remastering of 90125 I couldnt wait for these reissues. I never fully got into Tormato before so I took the plunge again. Needless to say I think these (coupled with Going For the One) are my favorite Yes albums, CTTE aside, I really love this period of the band. 90125 sunds increible in this new mastering job. The original domestic issue sounded absolutley horrible so I was very excited to hear it and now it sounds amazing. The wait certainly paid off. Drama is still excellent and the bonus tracks (with and without Anderson) give a better look into the creative process and complete the cd brilliantly. The bonus tracks with Anderson and Wakeman are certainly not bad, but its easy to see how they became frustrated and left the band in 1980. As for Tormato, well it certainly has its rough moments for sure. the music sounds as if the core element of the band (Squire, Howe and White) were going into a broader musical direction and Jon and Rick kind of stuck in a mid-70's rut, and this point is clarified even greater by the 1979 cuts released on the back of Drama. Otherwise, tormato sounds fine and the bonus tracks are very cool. Its a shame Countryside didn't make the final cut, as it actually attempts to tell the story behind the title of the album. 90125 is topped off by the alternate cut of "It Can Happen" I never realized how much influence Anderson had over the finished product. His lyrics certainly smooth out the efforts made by Trevor Rabin, but he is clearly out of his element here. After this, I am afraid that the entire band loses the plot and Rabins influence is felt more strongly over BG and Talk...I wont even bother with Union. 90125 is it for me, and aparently it is the last album that will be issued in the Rhino series.

Yeah, I don't want to think they would resort to this, but it was a question that did pop in my mind!

So that leaves me with more questions. If Mosaic's do in fact "time out" rather than sell out, what do they do with the remainder of the run of sets left over? I kind of feel that I'm being bamboozeled into buying them if there are still some left over, even as they go into the Running Low/Last chance area. Does Moasic now turn right around and sell the remainders thru the ebay route? Or do they go to some kind of box set depository in the sky? Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Someone please help me figure this out!

Musical instruments you could do without in jazz.

Then you NEED to go see Hutcherson play live! He whups the doo-doo out of that Vibraphone! -
I hate the Yankees. I HATE the Yankees...I really HATE the Yankees. This has nothing to do with the fact that Steinbrenner is the worst thing to happen to the sport since the invention of the Designated Hitter. I just HATE the Yankees. I hope they fall apart mid-season and Boston gets the the playoffs. Not that I like the Soxx any more than I hate the Yankees, but it's like the choice between either George Bush and Pat Buchannan in the Presidential election. It's that level of hatred. Sorry for the vent.

I have seen this movie at least 75 times and lemme tell ya, it never misses a step! Actually it was not a film that sunk in with me very well upon initial viewing, but I knew there was something to it. The more I thought about it the more I liked it. Now how many films have you seen that made you think at all? The Dude abides, man!

What Are Your Favorite Baseball Books?

I have always wondered what happened to him. He had that one great Rookie of the Year season and then seemingly vanished. -
Only the bazooka that came attached!

I feel that 2004 will be more or less the same stuff we've been getting for the last few years. There are several stand out releases every year, but with the consolidation of the majors we are looking to right now, we need the independants to step up and put out the real quality music. 2004 was the same as every year since about 1991 or '92(like it or not the Seattle "grunge" thing was the last great movement in music that we've seen, and that all just got watered down anyways). Unless of course Jimmy Buffet releases a new album this year!

I was more dissapointed in the Invisible Hand than I was in St. Louis Shoes. Shoes seemed decent enough, I was expecting a bit more fireworks from it, but I like the ensemble as a whole and its a damn shame I didn't get to see them perform live. Invisible Hand, however should have been magnificent, but it missed the mark for me in a BIG way.

All the music I got for Christmas I pretty much picked out and bought myself. I got... Max Roach + Four Mercury Mosaic Charlie Parker - Complete Savoy and Dial Master Takes Rolling Stones - Singles Collection The London Years Bob Dylan Remasters - The Freewheelin' - Another Side - Brining It All Back Home - Highway 61 Revisted Dexter Gordon - Live at the Both/And Not a bad pick up if you ask me!

I get a big kick out of Up All Night. I was just listening to it last night, in fact, and having a good time of it! So there! I like it too, so you're not alone... ...and come to think of it "ScoLoHoFo" pretty much sucked eggs too!
-
Yaaahhheeemm...Okay then, well... heh heh...not even Steve Nelson? I don't find either of the recent DHQ cd's disapointing in the least. If I did have to pick a most disapointing new release of 2003 it would be the awful last Scofield cd...Up All Night? Snoozer!

HELL YEAH! That's great and all but THIS is where it's at!!

AOTW 12/22-12/28 BLACKSTONE LEGACY Woody Shaw
Jazzdog replied to sidewinder's topic in Album Of The Week
This connects with me a lot more than BB does. I haven't listened to it in years but BB never really "got" me, like it has for so many others. Even though Miles is far more influential than Woody, Woody to me is a more complete trumpter. I've always been able to look past Miles' acheivements as being more rewarding than his actual playing. Too many peaks and valleys for me. Woody just sound ON here, as do all of the supporting cast. I dl'ed Blackstone Legacy from near the end of the emusic unlimited download days and I am happy that I did. Highly rewarding work from Woody Shaw! -
Jeez...I wonder what they are putting in the Starbucks coffee to make it taste that way?
