I believe Nature still airs on PBS, but you sort of answered your own question. Animal Planet and Discovery Channel now fill that niche and PBS probably gets better ratings/support with other things now. Years back when I was doing such things, I worked on a couple of shows with George Page... real nice guy.

All the Vanguard jazz CDs I've heard have been good (and cheap! ). I agree that they are rather randomly compiled.

I've never actually voted in those big voting booths w/metal levers, but I certainly remember them from my youth in upstate NY - every election time, they would line the halls of my junior high and high school, which were obviously polling places. Thought they were so neat at the time...

I was a bit surprised to see that Nader wasn't on the California ballot - I suppose he didn't qualify in CA. (I'm sure I read about this before, but forgot about it since.) Does anyone know how many states did he qualify for?

Took about 15 minutes. Usually it takes only 5-10, so the turnout might be greater this year... but I also voted a bit earlier in the a.m. than usual so it's not really a fair comparison. My neighborhood's also very liberal and gay, so the demographics didn't seem so different, but a buddy here at work reported many more "kids" voting than usual, which is a good sign.

Well, Michael knows from Marketing 101 that it's best not to push these as "The nadir of her career - for completists only!" Seriously, though, it's Dinah - and largely unknown Dinah. How "not great" could it possibly be? Like it or not, this is the stuff that Mosaic was made for...
