  1. In this friendly, freedom-loving land of ours ... Beer Belongs - Enjoy!
  2. Wait till they throw up on your train track under the tree! But I still love them.
  3. As if I didn't have enough to worry about already... https://neurosciencenews.com/cat-ownership-schizophrenia-25355/
  4. Donc on me dit.
  5. Anger over plan to name Métro station after ‘misogynist’ Serge Gainsbourg
  6. Jerry's wife. Or sister.
  7. Yes, that's the one. (I wasn't near my LPs at the time I posted.)
  8. He did a very nice solo LP in the 1970s or 80s that I used to spin quite a bit. Can't recall the title...
  9. Some of the most terrifying music ever recorded, even before David Lynch got his hands on it!
  10. A fantastic collection that my parents appear on! (They were part of the vocal group on Your Hit Parade, of which Scott was the musical director.) I have most of these, except for the Big Band LP. I also have the Columbia/Sony collection of the Quintette's 78s; two CDs by the Beau Hunks, who recreate the Quintette arrangements; The Unexpected; two collections of his electronic stuff; all three volumes of Soothing Sounds for Baby; and the Metropole Orchestra's album of orchestral arrangements of the Quintette stuff, originally arranged for Paul Whiteman.
  11. This compilation included 26 tracks, mostly originals, but a few things such as "Limehouse Blues," "Get Happy," and "The Peanut Vendor."
  12. I don't think we have a catch-all Raymond Scott thread. Just picked up a collection of his big band recordings reissued by Real Gone Music. Kind of a continuation of the Quintette.
  13. Johnny Pate Turned 100 on 12/5/23. Happy Birthday!
  14. A Columbia Valley cab called Hawk Crest.
  15. Felix Slatkin - Season's Greetings (Liberty, stereo) Nice in-store, postwar Christmas shopping music.
  16. I'm working around the house, so I'm not sitting. These albums were a huge part of my childhood, and I still love them. They are very funny, and the arrangements are nice. Jazz fans may like "Hang Up Your Stocking," which pairs nicely with Kay Starr's "The Man with the Bag." I have many of these on vinyl, but I bought most of the CDs in the recent sale, except for the label proprietor's two albums, which I don't care for.
  17. Christmas With the Chipmunks, Vols. 1 & 2 - Liberty (stereo)
  18. The CD of Workout had this sentence displayed in a prominent font on the cover, at least on some issues. Either the graphics department goofed, or the powers that be said, "Meh, good enough..." BTW, I love that photo of Hank, and at least with the Blue Note album, we got to see the uncropped image.
  19. I hate that cover because it doesn't say "Retouched cover to come." I buy Hank Mobley albums only if they say that on the cover.
  20. The Miracles' Christmas album was released in 1963.
  21. Here's the story: When the rights to the film adaptation of The Sound of Music were secured, the studio began thinking of creative ways to forward-market the film. Someone at the studio had the idea of turning "My Favorite Things" into a Christmas song. There was apparently a big lobbying effort. At any rate, both Jack Jones and the Supremes recorded the song for their respective Christmas albums, both released in 1964. And the tradition continued from there. Incidentally, Jack's 1964 Christmas album, on Kapp, is a real favorite of mine.
  22. Usually, not always. I don't check out CDs from the library. I listen to downloaded albums the same way I would listen to an LP or CD, unless there is a track that I really don't like. I don't stream.
  23. How is the sound quality on this? Does it vary much between dates?
