  1. Since our Siamese cat crossed over, our Maine Coon cat has been crying at night. He has begun sleeping with us through the whole night, something he never used to do.
  2. This has been a strange thread. I don't understand why Allen is being criticized for stating his opinion.
  3. For a long time, that live album was readily available at every thrift store, flea market, and yard sale.
  4. Thanks. So it sounds like my recollection is more or less correct.
  5. Refresh me: Does he sing much on his CTI albums? I have several, but haven't spun any in while. My recollection is that these albums are most mostly instrumental.
  6. I am spinning an expanded Jingle Bell Jazz playlist, which includes most of the original Columbia LP, the Herbie Hancock Cassavetes track that was used for the reissue, and the God Rest Ye Merry Jazzmen album. For those who don't know, you can now get lossless downloads of the Jingle Bell Jazz tracks that were not issued on CD.
  7. This Mancini score, never previously issued on LP or CD, has just been released by La-La Land. https://lalalandrecords.com/moment-to-moment-limited-edition/
  8. I would have given a shout out to KC Organissimo members, but I was there for work in the daytime, and got together with friends in the evenings. Hopefully next time!
  9. As an AARP member, I have no interest in what the kids today are listening to. I think it's fine for teen pop combos like the Stones to try expanding their audience base beyond just kids, but AARP members are more interested in jazz and cocktails.
  10. I have the original LP and the CD that you posted. I typically don't pay attention to mastering unless it is particularly bad. What mastermind thought the reissue cover art was better than the original?
  11. Jackie Gleason's 1956 Christmas album has to be one of the most understated - some might describe it as "depressing" - Christmas albums ever made. I love playing this album during the holidays at around twilight time, with a glass of bourbon or rye or scotch. It fits the mood perfectly.
  12. Even if it wasn't, I'm sure copies made their way there. All those Brazilian kids buying Sinatra and Stan Kenton records were of means.
  13. I have Castro's book and have read it twice. His lack of a reference does not mean that Brasilian musicians did not hear this record.
  14. OIiver Nelson - The Kennedy Dream - impulse! (stereo)
  15. Check out the difference between the original film mix of "Little Birdie," which buries the rhythm section, and the new mix from the master tapes. Here is the TV mix: And here is the new stereo mix: outube.com/watch?v=ofzyGL8-rxc
  16. There are some who claim the Braziliance album influenced bossa, as the bossa musicians from that period had their ear to the ground with regard to American jazz. I wasn't there, so I can't say either way.
  17. There is a nice bossa on this album, "Moon and Sand," by Alec Wilder. I have often included this on bossa compilations/playlists I have curated over the years.
  18. He got out when he should have. Good for him.
  19. That's the reality of things, like it or not.
  20. The other guy is just as anonymous as you or I, someone who was born too late to make a difference in jazz, regardless of whether they are any good. Illinois is a legend, and the young guy got a plum university gig, so it all worked out for everyone. That's showbiz, folks!
  21. Quite the opposite, from my perspective. Young guy recognizing that the jig is up, and that jazz is finished, and not about to be pushed around by an old guy who can't tell who hit the wrong note. Young guy probably ended up with a plum university jazz gig. No animals were harmed in the making of the cassette recording. I think it's hilarious.
  22. He clearly wasn't interested in keeping the gig. I thought it was funny.
  23. Still, funny to hear a guy of his stature allow himself to be baited so easily by a mouthy nobody!
