  1. Those images are from Geocities, which prohibits linking to images hosted on its webspace. The reason Mule can see them is because they are already in his browser cache from viewing the pages where the images are located.
  2. I checked ebay and most seem to have fairly high Buy it Now prices. I'm looking for the ones that hold 200-300 discs--anyone know where I could get one for less than they're asking on ebay?
  3. Search for the New Land Morgan the Pirate
  4. Ok, I just tried searching myself for that post. The most successful method for me was searching for "blues AND Turrentine" (no quotation marks in the original). I'm not sure quotation marks work on this search feature like they do in others. Some other observations: 1) You can't search for just "Z.T." because the search terms must have at least 5 characters. 2) Part of the problem might be the apostrophe--I know certain applications have trouble with them.
  5. Are you using quotation marks around your phrase?
  6. Downloaded some clips of this group from sexmob.com (which, BTW, seems to be down now--maybe for updating since Sex Mob has a new record coming out). I dig what I hear. Does anyone know if Bernstein has any plans to record this band? They gig fairly frequently around NYC but never seem to make it out to the provinces.
  7. Keep in mind that this board still has far fewer posts than the BN board did. I'm guessing that's one reason why it's faster here--not as many threads to search. But yeah, overall this board software beats the crap out of that version of UBB. I haven't noticed one bug yet.
  8. Sorry, didn't mean to imply that Jordan's disposition by itself was enough to justify a "boycott". I was speculating that Jordan's attitude might have resulted in Bertrand having a bad experience at one of his gigs.
  9. Judging by the comments in the Miles autobio, the feeling was mutual. I have read quite a bit about Jordan having an obnoxious disposition--on the old board Victor Christensen mentioned something to that effect (Jordan lives in Copenhagen now).
  10. From the disco album?
  11. A good friend of my takes up the entire frame for about a second in "Wild Things." An extra who got lucky. Quite a few films have been shot in Miami, where I grew up. I recognized quite a lot in "There's Something About Mary"--one scene is filmed in a plaza right across the street from my dad's office building. The Birdcage also has a lot of familiar stuff. Also, I've been to Seaside, Florida, the Panhandle town where The Truman Show was filmed. Weird place.
  12. Heard it and liked it well enough. There is also a sequel, also on Mack Avenue.
  13. And it can be had at GraveyardMall.com for $6!
  14. Though I went with "Eggs and American bacon," I actually hate most breakfast foods. I find them WAY too bland. If given the chance, I'll take leftover pizza over cereal or pancakes any day. Big fan of cheese omelets and bagels and lox, though.
  15. Yecchhh. I will confess to enjoying their cherry wheat, even though it's about as girly as beer can get.
  16. I need only listen to "Solea" on Sketches of Spain to realize what a great trumpeter Miles Davis was. It ain't all about having Maynard Ferguson-level technique. Of course context plays a role in affecting one's listening experience. But Miles would have affected me deeply on an emotional level regardless of who he was or where he was from. We're talking about the guy who recorded "Blue In Green," for chrissakes. You can't listen to that and tell me your experience would be fundamentally different if you didn't know who Miles was.
  17. No, there are two different 2CD sets: You're referring to Meet You at the Jazz Corner of the World. The set reg is referring to is a 1959 session with a different band (Lee, Hank, Timmons, and Merritt) that came out in the mid-'90s in the Doubletime series. See here and here for details.

    Marc Cary

When my local HMV closed it doors in May I was able to scoop up a few nice discs for about $4 each. One of them was Marc Cary's "Trillium", a piano trio with Tarus Mateen and Nasheet Waits. Because of the presence of Mateen and Waits, comparisons with Jason Moran are inevitable. Cary's got more McCoy Tyner and less Andrew Hill in him, so the compositions aren't quite as intriguing, but the playing is great, very spirited. Does anyone know if he's working as a leader these days? I noticed that he's been on the Roy Hargrove electric album that just came out as well as a similar effort by Russell Gunn, but that's about it for the last year or so.
  19. I'm gonna dissent here and say Locomotion. Yeah, it's a riff tune, but I'm a sucker for the blues with a bridge. And that ending is sick!
  20. Thanks Lon! Any other highly recommended titles?
  21. Are these the latest domestic releases of Sonny Meets Hawk and Far East Suite? I don't do Japan or gold discs but would like the best sound possible given those constraints.
  22. I learned very early on, before the age of 7 and possibly earlier--I remember someone showing me the moves at 5 or 6. Most of what I picked up came from I.A. Horowitz's "Chess for Beginners." Despite learning so early, I suck. I dunno if it's that I never really practiced, but I blunder constantly whenever I play (maybe once a year these days).

    Oct conns?

The Rouse was my second choice. I've heard a bit and it's good, but nothing beats more Larry Young in my book.
  24. You learn something new every day with AMG's "factoids"... "Dutch avant-garde pianist Misha Mengelbergand American composer/multi-instrumentalist Anthony Braxtonare both intense and devoted chess players. Braxton even made a living, briefly, as a chess 'hustler' prior to joining Circle."
  25. Sweet. I really dig The African Beat so I bet I'll like that one.
