I've been listening to all three of the bootlegged Fillmore West shows (4/9, 4/11, 4/12) and I'll be damned if Black Beauty wasn't the runt of the litter! Even without Wayne this was a great band. Guy

I downloaded this OOP album and just listened to it for the first time. Wow, this is great music! Highly recommended to fans of Herbie Hancock's more atmospheric 1971-73 music. I'm now really psyched about Julian Priester's Love Love, which I bought earlier this summer. Haven't listened to it yet. Guy

I'm listening to the April 12, 1970 gig by the Miles Davis sextet at the Fillmore West. (Two days after Black Beauty was recorded.) Steve Grossman plays a really nice tenor solo on "Directions", maybe the only one I've heard from his tenure on Miles. His soprano playing during this period doesn't do much for me aside from "texture". It's too bad Miles was so fixated on the soprano during this period! Guy

I think #7 is my favorite Sibelius symphony. #4 is a close second. Guy

(1) The Sinatra and Zappa are there because I picked the 100 highest-rated jazz recordings from a more generic highest-rated recordings list on rateyourmusic. I could have omitted them, making space for a few more recordings. Nevertheless, I felt they were close enough to jazz to merit inclusion. (2) I don't understand the "too many listings by the same artists" argument. Some artists recorded a lot of classic albums. Guy
