  1. Yes, there is - but that has been the case for many recent years, not just this one.
  2. 1) Alex Jones is awful. 2) Infowars is not a good source of information, to say the least. 3) Paul Craig Roberts is NOT a "well-respected economist". 4) I know _Andrew_ Roberts professionally. He is a smart and wonderful guy, but he's also very bearish/pessimistic by worldview, so I would calibrate your opinions appropriately. Additionally, as someone working for a securities firm, he's probably inclined to let financial market sentiment and the dire state of the investment/banking community color his economic worldview. 5) I think the caution about the wisdom of economic forecasters in general, and those from Wall Street in particular, is warranted.
  3. This is some of the worst stuff I've read on this board for a long, long time.
  4. RIP Paul, and thanks for the amazing music
  5. Dan, you're right - it's solid trollwork. But if Wild really wanted to go for the gold, he would have used this opportunity to trash Bud Powell or Thelonious Monk while praising Peterson. P.S. Once a Jarrett fan (sincerely, I think) told me that Jarrett's versions of Monk tunes improved on the originals! Trolling opportunity wasted.
  6. Not sure if this recommendation belongs here either, but mjazzg is right - Scott, if you haven't heard PEOPLE IN SORROW, it's a must (independently of genre).
  7. Is the recording of the mass in b minor in this box the same one that's available separately?
  8. Totally true about ST.
  9. I wonder if Keith will ever play jazz in an ensemble again. Obviously it's a matter of taste but I greatly prefer the latter to his solo music.
  10. Seems clueless about jazz, right?
  11. He had some phenomenal sideman appearances in the 60s for Jimmy Smith, Shirley Scott, Duke Pearson and Kenny Burrell.
  12. Get yourself to your preferred purveyor of music and listen to One Step Beyond, young man!
  13. What do people think of WHERE'S YOUR CUP? Personally I think I like this ensemble more than Very Very Circus, but less than Zooid or the Sextett.
  14. 1) Who said it's nefarious to want to reach a broader audience? 2) Even if he was indifferent to selling more records, he must have been aware that this would be a likely outcome of this kind of project...
  15. Want to chime in on one thing that was brought up in the prior threads - the irritation that these threads devolved into a discussion about Wynton. Let's be honest, Wooley must have known that recording this would generate controversy/hype and boost sales. (If he didn't, he is incredibly naive.) There's nothing wrong with that, it doesn't preclude artistic merit and we all have to pay the rent - but it's off-the-mark to complain "Can you guys stop discussing extra-musical controversy"... Guy
  16. I had the same experience - friends who enjoy jazz somewhat really getting into this album.
  17. Fairly or unfairly, the reaction/judgment/anger is to the hype rather than to the music. Guy
  18. Well, now they're competing for the title of "best NBA team of all time"...
  19. Hamp and Getz is great. Love that version of "Cherokee". Of the Diz/Getz encounters, my favorite is SITTIN' IN.
  20. I do wonder how improvement and growing pervasiveness of surveillance technology (much of it in private sector hands) will affect the ability to plan these kinds of complex, non-lone-wolf attacks. In the end, this attack is a domestic intelligence failure (albeit maybe one that couldn't be prevented with existing resources).
  21. BLUE SKIES is magnificent, one of my favorites. Especially "How Long Has This Been Going on".
  22. This one is outstanding as well. May even be popular with those who dislike Lloyd's ECM records:
  23. I had a similar experience when I acquired them; they're very enjoyable. My guess is lowered expectations; some might say "reasonable expectations". The converse of this phenomenon is the numerous times I've thought "this supposedly classic/indispensable album is a disappointment!" (The Sidewinder...)
  24. I finally started listening to this (it was acquired in a death-of-Fantasy binge back in 2009) last week. It's of very high quality, like all of the other Milestone MT I've heard (Sahara, Enlightenment, Echoes of a Friend, Sama Layuca). I was a little skeptical about Tyner of this period tackling standards, but the Coltrane-esque "My One and Only Love" is excellent. The obvious reference point for Atlantis is Enlightenment, since that is also a >70 minute live album, though Enlightenment is much more intense. Of course, that's only a matter of degree since Atlantis is a 9 or 8 on the intensity scale. Hard to believe that in retrospect, THE REAL MCCOY sounds positively "cute"/"polite" compared to McCoy's later work.
