Damn, you can be one paranoid fool. I'm "friends" with many of my kids teachers and, when they're old enough I'd have no problem with my kids friending them as well. What you don't seem to understand is that nobody is forcing you - or any teacher! - to be a FB "friend" with anyone, adult, student, teenager or otherwise. It's an all "opt in" process. Fool, through careful analysis of your profile page I have figured out your old 8th grade gym locker combination. When I finish building my time machine and travel back, boy are you going to be sorry!

Aye! Alright, as penance for that slap vs. Hoosierville you can put on a J.J. Johnson or Wes Montgomery album tonight. Or if you swing towards David Lee Roth or Axl Rose, you can do that too.

The NFL is so hip to what's happening in music that I expect to see (if I live that long) Radiohead play Super Bowl LXXV. Bring back Up With People!

Actually his clutch stats have been very good for the past 2 years (all I looked at.) Given that he has a functional arm too I'm one of the few who thinks the Yankees came out ahead, or at least "a wash" in this deal.

I have wasted a bunch of time looking for a discussion about this one. Live At Newport 58, Horace Silver I can remember it being discussed here but can't find it. I share your frustration. It seems to me that some board members are much more adept than I at using the search function. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Sure, I hope this is whaat you're after. I used Google Advanced Search to find it, using "Silver" and "Newport" in the "all these words" section and www.organissimo.org in the "search within this site or domain" section. I could have narrowed it down more by putting in a year. There are other hits about listening to this on the radio (I think).

The Big Unit will be on the mound for the Mariner's opening day! He's throwing out the ceremonial pitch, not starting. Still, it's great that they've made amends as the mid-season trade to Houston all those years ago was a nasty time.

That is just fucking insane, it has to be some kind of typo. I feel like such an idiot for selling mine for $9284.14 w/ free shipping.

As a kid I used to see Dr. Bob on a little b&w in the summertime when I'd have lunch w/ my mom. The finest doctor in Oakdale if I remember right. I see him owning a "gag gift" copy of Cattin' because of the song "Anatomy." "Vodka" may have added to the fun factor from the gift giver's perspective.

It's the baseball one that's sad. Glow sticks and Bic lighters are fun of course, but the tape measure show was a delightful surprise.

Yet another artist Led Zeppelin ripped off.

"Old reliable" for us is the light grey celtic sea salt. Hmm, looks like I should be buying this mail order rather than the local store. Oh well, the owner of the small shop does provide good health care to his employees, many of whom I'm friends with. (You're a magnet for off-topic political content. ) I love the stuff for stews and salads especially. Maybe a little too much, as I recently bought a blood pressure monitor to make sure we don't overdo it. We were given a sampler that includes Hawaiian alaea red clay, black truffle salt, some Salish smoked salt like you asked about, Himalayan pink and Mediterranian Cyprus flake. Haven't really had a chance to fully try them out yet, though I have some experience with the pink and flake. (Reminder people, this is a salt thread, not a cocaine thread.) For some reason I'm drawn to the pink for certain fish dishes but I'm not sure if it's just the color or the taste. The smoked salt is strong enough that you can smell it when it's closed in its thick plastic sampler container. I'm a little suspicious that a drop of Liquid Smoke might have the same effect in dishes. (Sticks finger in container and tastes.) No, it's more subtle than that, strong as it is. Part of what's held me back from experimenting with these is the containers are the sort that if you're not careful while opening the lid the contents can explode all over the place. Not quite the Hurt Locker, but if you're clumsy...

Up yours Red Sox & Yankees!

I'm guessing you have these marked down for the Antrim Coast drive, but you must see the Giant's Causeway and Dunluce Castle. The former will give you a chance to get some walking in on a day of driving. I saw 'em both before and after Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy album came out. Didn't see naked kids on the rocks either time. Carrickfergus is also on the drive near the beginning and I doubt you'll be "castled out" so early in the trip. Cliffs of Moher are worth seeing too for another rugged nature stop. I'd be tempted to chop off a portion of your itinerary to slow things down elsewhere for a calmer vacation. I'd nip part of the more touristy latter southern excursion as mentioned by Bev, but my Dad is from the north so I may have a bias.

Happy B(ee)-day! (Sorry, couldn't resist.) (Doubly sorry if someone else used that earlier in the thread.)

I don't think any compression takes place with Windows Media Player. *(This is wrong. For the record I've only used this program as a player and not often, and that was years ago. Therefore I shouldn't have commented on that part.*) A bigger issue with rippers is how they react to scratched discs. Years ago some programs used extract without compensating and produce CDRs with digital glitches and white noise where the scratch was. A program that has not had this problem and continues to be the gold standard on PCs is Exact Audio Copy. Take time to read the tutorials on how to set it up. Thankfully it's much more user friendly than it was 8-10 years ago. I haven't read the tech articles about burning speed in a long time, but from what I recall slower is not necessarily better. However it's been at least 5 years since I've read any of these kind of studies. I can't imagine burning a CD at 1x though, although that's a good way to prevent having to build CD storage shelves all the time. *edit added a couple of days later.

I think it's the other way around. Lester Bowie has performed Michael Jackson's "Black Or White."

The homer that McGwire hit to break the record was a freakish line drive home run. The line drive home run was also a steroid era special.

Me too, thanks for the tip Matthew. If the mastering is good for Power To The People and Japan I'll lower my cost to an even more ridiculously low amount. I never pulled the trigger because of "the back end" of this set. Still shaking my head over how cheap this box is - with shipping about the same as some OJCs when not on sale in local shops (back when seeing one was a common occurrence.) I'm glad early on I leaned towards buying Mosaic boxes and not this and the Art Pepper Vanguard (which I got last year at a silly low price.) Though the cost has been fewer years of enjoyment.

There's a rumor that La Russa might PH him this year just to reset Mark's Hall Of Fame clock. If it happens (and I'm skeptical it will) who knows what another 5 years could do as far how the voters feel about this.

Thanks. Obviously I should have looked at the site more carefully. The print was small and the copy was dull. My attention faded but I got lucky and spotted it just before closing the page.

EMI's site says "His earliest recording in this set was made for The Victor Company in 1925 and the latest for EMI in 1949."

Okay, if Jim Rice, Tony Perez, Orlando Cepeda, Ralph Kiner, Herb Pennock, Don Drysdale, (love him but) Catfish Hunter, Bruce Sutter, Bill Mazerowski, Pee Wee Reese (I could go on) are HOFers, The Hawk sure as hell is too. I have no problem with people who want tougher standards, but given the above criteria you gave I think his selection isn't worse than most of the above. Some talk about what cap he'll wear as he was an Expo for 11 years and a Cub for 10, but I'd think (& hope) it's the Expo hat. The steals came from those years, and that's what made him such a badass (along with the arm.) I hope Raines gets in someday as I think he was in some ways even better (though their roles were different.) Being the 2nd greatest lead off man should count for something.

I agree it's odd that they have the WC match ups vs. division winners in the first round, and this year it shows a flaw in that approach with 3 games being rematches (at least in name, though not necessarily line ups in some of those games.) The rules changed in 2002 when Houston was added and they sliced the league into too many, er, I mean 4 divisions. From that point on it's been a strict adherence their legalistic seeding system, part of which guarantees a divisional winner a home game even the team's record is worse than the WCs. Wiki addresses it along with all the tie-breakers.
