  1. In total agreement. That "In Concert" album is killer as well. Which one? Seems like there are a lot of CTI "In Concert" albums on which Freddie appears. This one. Turrentine is friggin' ON during this concert, he stretches out much farther than you'd expect.
  2. One of my faves... Both Griffin & Lockjaw on this one...
  3. Jesus...I'm sitting here wondering how the hell I missed the news that Michael had passed away! Guess I've been under a rock for too long. What a loss. Will be picking this CD up.
  4. In total agreement. That "In Concert" album is killer as well.
  5. Washington State has had a similar law for years. If a store purchases 9 CDs or under they can put them right out on the shelf and sell them. But if it's 10 CDs or more it's considered a "bulk buy" and those have to be put on hold for 30 days prior to sale. Of course the scumbags who sell stolen CDs get 3 of their friends to help out and they each sell 9 discs a piece....
  6. Very sad news, one of my favorites. Listen to the song "Verse" from Stick-Up for a text book lesson on how to vary the line depending on which soloist is up to the plate.
  7. Hmmm..I don't know about that, I've always enjoyed Jennings. He might not have a huge vocabulary...but he swings like mad.
  8. APP was a studio band, so it doesn't surprise me they would use some jazz cats now and again. I can't listen to much of this stuff anymore, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Turn Of A Friendly Card album.
  9. Fabulous set. The improvement in sound over the original Solid States is very significant. Love the booklet too ! ARGH! Wish I had that one....
  10. Hey chewy - check out the home-made covers thread. You'll love it. Yeah Aric...check out the thread and make yourself a SAMMICH.
  11. I really like the XRCD edition of Wynton Kelly - Kelly Blue. Sounds spectacular!
  12. Wow. Allen, thanks so much for posting the self-interview, fascinating and heart-wrenching in equal degrees.
  13. Syd Barrett was the leader of a group that happened to record one of the best psychedelic albums of the 60's. They also happened to be called (the)Pink Floyd. But for me (and I assume many others) it didn't really "Become" Pink Floyd until Gilmour took the stage. To me, Gilmour IS Floyd. It's his voice and his guitar playing that are the signature sound of the band. Of course I'm not dis-crediting Waters, Mason or Wright for their input...it's just that Gilmour is the pulse (no pun intended). When the group started going downhill (Animals, The Wall, The Final Cut) it was due to Waters taking too much control and not letting the rest of the group contribute. Not surprisingly, it's the Gilmour written tunes on Animals and The Wall that still sound good to me. Roger Waters - Just Another Prick In The Wall
  14. Really bad coffee...attempting to stay awake on this long-ass night shift...
  15. It's an N word...definitely an N word...
  16. One of my co-workers has a part-time job at a limousine scheduling service, Paris called a couple nights ago requesting a car...my co-worker said she was tempted to ask..."Aren't you supposed to be in jail?".
  17. I LOVE this album. I discovered it when I was on a Wilbur Ware kick quite a few years ago, I remember being pleasantly surprised that it wasn't another "formless" jam session like many of the Prestige dates of the period. I'm going to have to dig my copy out of storage so I can spin it again....
  18. At the moment I'm working a night-shift job by myself, I'm the only one in the building... Right now I have Wayne Shorter's ETC. cranked up loud enough to drown out all the white noise from hundreds of servers. It's a blissful thing compared to my last job where I couldn't play music at all.
  19. Interesting tidbit of info on Seattle Seahawk's quarterback Matt Hasselbeck... His Mother was on NFL Total Access the other night and was asked if she could tell something about Matt that nobody knows. She said that he was very hard of hearing, to the point where he really can't hear communications from his teamates in the huddle. Maybe that's one reason he goes to the line with a multitude of plays he can audible to (of course it could also be he's one smart QB)? Maybe it's an advantage when playing in noisy opposing stadiums? However, his eye site is better than normal (20-10)...which should also be a major advantage for a quarterback looking 70 yards down the field for an open receiver. Gotta love Nature's way of compensating the other senses when one is weak.
  20. Oh Geez...I had to read this damn thread...now there goes my lunch money for the next month or so...
  21. I was going to post something about this series...but Aric's "Made Sexy-Time" remark just derailed all thought processes....
  22. Thanks for the recommendations! I downloaded Foobar and I'm really digging it.
