My personal preference is the period of time that Cannonball was sharing the frontline with Yusef Lateef in the sextet. Having 'teef on hand seemed to really "push" Cannonball, you have to be on your toes to not get buried by what Yusef was laying down... Check out any live recording of the period, especially Cannonball Adderley Sextet In New York. My 2 cents.

I think the Seattle game is on Saturday and the Bears game is on Sunday..... I haven't played for awhile, but here are my picks for this weekend Seattle will squash the Rednecks...er...Redskins like a bug. Denver/New England is a toss-up....I'm leaning towards New England though. Pittsburgh will fight hard but will be bested in the end by the Indy offensive jugernaut. Chicago probably won't let Carolina past the 50 yard line...Chicago wins.

hmmmm...the Lockjaw fans seem to have dried up and blown away....

Just picked this up today...what a nice way to unwind after a long SHITTY day at work! First part of the disc is all rough and ready bawdy R&B numbers (including the "classic" Mountain Oysters)...second half is very tasty mid-tempo & ballad numbers with either Bill Dogget or Billy Taylor on organ. Fine stuff indeed if you're needin' a Lockjaw fix.

My Seahawks are kickin' some major ass....here's to Alexander joining the 2000 yard rushing club!

For The Good Times is excellent as well (some beautiful ballad playing), all of these Prestige dates are worth grabbing. Check his sideman appearances as well, he's on some of the Boogaloo Joe Jones discs and others that are slipping my mind at the moment.

Yes, this is DEFINITELY worth picking up. Now if someone would get around to releasing the "Count Basie presents the Eddie Davis Trio" album.....

ALL the Rusty Bryant reissues are worth grabbing, be sure to get the Legends Of Acid Jazz releases as well. Rusty is seriously underrated in my book.

I manage an online music service and I can tell you that it's still the record labels gouging us. The proft margin on legal music downloads is almost non-existent. Plus record labels increase their rates based on sample rate, so the higher bit-rate, the more we'd have to pay the labels. I've been pushing for us to offer a "lossless" section to our store, but it would require us to raise the price per song to $1.75 per track just to break even.

I'm most likely going to be relocated to our Chicago office in the next couple months and I don't even know where to begin looking for a place to live. Our office is located downtown on W. Washington St, very close to various El stations. I'm looking for a comfortably hip neighborhood...relatively safe...not too far from downtown...etc. Suggestions? I'm traveling to Chicago on a weekly basis now, so if anyone wants to meet up and go catch a show or something...I'm game. Saw McCoy Tyner at Jazz Showcase last week. Thanks gang! Shawn

Crap, I seem to be dropping like a rock since week 1, oh well, here's hoping the football Gods are smiling on me this week. WEEK # 04 JACKSONVILLE TAMPA BAY CINCINNATI (My Bengals are gonna stomp Houston...4-0 baby!) INDIANAPOLIS KANSAS CITY (PLEASE let KC take the air out of the Eagles) SAN DIEGO (I think this team can break the Pats streak at home) SEATTLE (If Seattle gets ahead early, Washington will never catch up) NY GIANTS BALTIMORE (these two teams should just have their defenses play each other) OAKLAND (I think Oakland is going to be pissed, I don't see them going 0-4 ATLANTA SAN FRANCISCO (my sentimental pick would be the Cards, but without Warner...) NEW ORLEANS (N.O. will be pumped up playing in San Antonio) MONDAY NIGHT GAME GREEN BAY (another sentimental pick, I see Favre coming back hungry and pissed)

I'm supposing that since we haven't reached week 6 yet, that a trade for a QB isn't entirely out of the question for the Jets. If they have any decent draft picks for next year, they might be able to grab a second-string QB from another team...there are some pretty good ones out there.

Thanks. Interesting weekend of football, that's for sure! My standout players for this past week: Willie Parker - Pittsburgh..this kid can BOOGIE...good grief. Cadillac Williams - Tampa Bay...yet another fantastic runner, explosive takeoff. Tim Rattay (!) - San Fran...nice little feat of grabbing the starting QB job from Alex (paid way too much) Smith...and then having a classy start to the season as well. Now if he keeps it up, he could have a "Drew Brees" season.

Seattle grabbed up Peter Warrick the second he became available after being released by the Bengals. Good move. After trimming down to 53 players, the Hawks kept 7 Wide Receivers on their roster! Darrell Jackson, Bobby Engram, Peter Warrick, Joe Jurevicius, D.J. Hackett, Jerheme Urban, Alex Bannister (punt returner). I have this strange feeling they are going to be throwing the ball this year. -
God I hope this story is overblown right now!!!

I've been seeing pictures of the devestation in Biloxi and I just can't believe it. I was there about 5 months ago, it's unrecognizable now. So far I've heard from my Mother and she is fine. I also got a text message from my Sister letting me know that she's alright. Still no word from my Aunt, Grandmother and other various cousins. There is no electricity, phone service and the cell phone service is so clogged you cannot call into the area. So I'm still sitting here wondering how my relatives are...it's too painful to describe. I was supposed to be flying to Biloxi this Saturday, we were going to have a family reunion, that makes this even worse somehow.... -
I have many relatives in the Biloxi area (Mother, Sister, Aunt, etc), so this hurricane has me absolutely terrified for their safety. I had been trying to watch the Weather Channel coverage but it's just making me feel worse. If you're the praying type...say one for them please.

Every guitar solo by Kirk Hammett since he latched onto the wah pedal and wouldn't let go...Black album to the present...

Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand --Believe it or not I've never read this one, it was recommended by a friend so I went and picked it up at Borders today.
