  1. It was replaced with 5 million blogs and bit torrent sites. Taking it away was an even dumber move than letting it continue to operate...when the public gets the taste of something they will find other avenues to acquire the same content.

    Roger Williams

I remember hearing a very pretty version of "Nature Boy" that he recorded, it was used in the soundtrack to the movie "Untamed Heart".

    ASIA

I can always count on the music snobs to come out in full force for a thread like this. Don't you guys feel superior? BTW: the first 4 Uriah Heep albums are quite excellent. The most pretentious band ever is The Eagles.

    ASIA

There were almost no bands by that era that were any good. Music post-punk primarily SUCKED until the underground Metal scene kicked into gear. I bought the Asia album when it first came out (I was 11), I really liked it then. I re-listened to it about a year ago and the only really kick ass song is "Time Again".
  6. Heard John Bonham's intro to "When The Levee Breaks" first thing this morning, that is perfection.
  7. Force yourself to yawn, that seems to operate the correct muscles. That little trick usually causes my ear to unblock (I have the same problem frequently).
  8. The Giants have "star players" with inflated salaries. The Chiefs have very few star players, so they don't spend as much on salary. Operating like the Chiefs with a lot of salary cap space is a good idea, so when someone you REALLY want comes along, you have the money to get them.
  9. Chuck Nessa = Anus Checks
  10. I've always been kind of glad that I missed the whole Beach Boys thing (too young). It's a period of time and style of music that holds zero interest to me.
  11. I've been playing around with this for several years, though I still haven't loaded my entire collection (need to invest in more storage). My setup is fairly simple: Mac Mini (2010) 2 - 1TB Seagate HD's (one for storage, the other a backup) iTunes and/or VLC I rip to .ALAC (Apple's version of FLAC) because it has support in iTunes on both Mac and PC. I don't have a problem with mp3's when ripped correctly, I would say about half my digital collection is in that format. The mini outputs a 24bit/192khz audio signal via HDMI (or optional optical connection)
  12. No worries, I don't think anyone under the age of 30 can spell at this point anyway. They just make up their own words. MAN, I got so hammered last night...I was OBLEVIATED!

    Billy Joel

I wasn't judging Costello against these others, he was just another artist I never "got" and decided I didn't need to expend the effort. However, there is definitely something about Costello that irritates the crap out of me...so at least he does cause an emotional response (these others don't really). On a side note, my version of hell would be having to listen to Born To Run for eternity...

Glad someone mentioned Elvis Costello, he goes on my list as well. Cougar I prefer to these others, but not by much. I really have no interest in "Americana".

    Billy Joel

He's talented, I grew up listening to the radio when he was popular...but I could never sit down and listen to an entire album. To me he falls into a group of artists that I have never understood or feel any desire to understand; Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Elton John, etc. I stay away from the top 40 of 1970-73 as well, but many of my favorite "albums" are from that 3 year period.
  16. Sounds like I need to check out that Benson album...I've avoided it over the years, but the description sounds interesting. Salt Song is easily one of my favorite CTI albums, I have the US digi-pak release, would be interested to know how the new reissue compares.
  17. That one almost made my list, such a joyous session, I never tire of it.
  18. Bored To Death is AWESOME! Love that show. Finishing up season 5 of Bones...
  19. I used to own a Pioneer console unit with the turntable and 8-track. That stereo sounded awesome for what it was, 1970's Pioneer was a different animal.
  20. Got to grab that one out of the "archive" and listen to it again. Thanks for the reminder!
  21. I assume you are using a Mac? Go to System Preferences/Accounts and make sure the account you are using is an Administrator and not a Standard account. I remember having that Firefox "administrator" error before. I deleted the Firefox application and downloaded the latest version from the website. You might want to give that a shot if you have the correct account level on your computer. Safari can also be re-downloaded from the Apple website if you need to reinstall it. The Mac OS uses Safari for other things, so if it's deleted completely it can cause some confusion (you can get around it, but would need to also delete the Safari folder from /User/Library and the .plist from /User/Library/Preferences). If you have a PC...ignore everything I just said.
  22. I prefer Diner Jazz.

  24. The Turrentine tracks are great, top drawer. It's a perfect companion session to Midnight Blue.
