  1. Anyone know the exact address of the place in Flemington?
  2. I was reading the liner notes of a Savoy Gospel LP from the late 60s/early 70s (I'm guessing since it wasn't yet an Arista imprint) and noticed that the LP appeared to be manufactured by Modern Album in Flemington, NJ. Does anyone have any information on this company? Was it a subsidiary of a bigger plastics manufacturer? Any information at all would help... Thanks, TL
  3. I don't live there any longer (1994-2003), but Red Bank, NJ was a great town!
  4. I have the set and could try to copy to CD over the lengthy holiday weekend, but I must warn you I'm an EXTREME procrastinator. Would you be interested in a trade (of another LP that's not available on CD)? Thanks, TL
  5. I'll be celebrating here in Red Bank, NJ: THE COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA with Special Guest Nnenna Freelon Directed by Bill Hughes Celebrating 100 Years of William Count Basie visit website Friday, 08/20/04 at 8:00 PM and then here tomorrow: Jon Faddis Orchestra Count Basie Centennial celebration Riverside Gardens Park Red Bank, NJ 1-8 pm WOOHOO! If you live in the area, everyone should go to tomorrow's FREE show at the Riverside Gardens park! Maybe it'll become an annual event like Bix's or Glenn's are in their respective hometowns...
  6. What about the 3-4 CDs put out by Out of the Blue. Renee Rosnes among others was in that great band...
  7. I picked up Wilbur DeParis, Maynard Ferguson, and Kid Ory LPs before I was told to pay $40 because I wasn't a dealer. I have to work today and will be on vacation tomorrow, so maybe I'll check it out next year...
  8. I was at a store yesterday and the male clerk's name was FACELIS.
  9. One of these days I'll splurge and get the COURAGEOUS CAT & MINUTE MOUSE DVDs! Wonder if there's an UNDERDOG or MIGHTY HEROES box? DIAPER MAN RULES!
  10. Kill her mommy... Kill her... Don't let her get away mommy... Don't let her live. I won't Jason. I won't.
  11. Long Gone Before Daylight - THE CARDIGANS 2fer Liberty/EMI release - JULIE LONDON
  12. I copied On My Way myself to CDR a few years ago; GREAT LP! I believe all of the music on one of the Dance Session LPs was re-released as King of Swing, so that's been out in the US in the past year or two... I'd like to see a Verve/Clef/Mercury boxset - $$$ but well worth every penny...
  13. I looked up two of the songs on allmusic.com and it's the same release as The Fantastic Jimmy Smith CD that came out within the last 2 years. I believe it was released on United too...
  14. All new (high)school and people for me in '82. I was the new-wave/punk freak with the burgundy hair and freaky clothes. By the summer before my Junior year, I experimented with booze and weed, so found myself hanging with a different crowd and listening to different music! Senior year was fun, especially all the after-school parties at my house, due to being a latch-key kid...
  15. I guess alternative is my next preferred genre (whatever that is these days) as I'm really digging the new(ish) Cardigans CD that came out yesterday in the states (and almost 1 year ago everywhere else). Also, digging the sounds of The Rasmus, The Stills and The Killers. I think some of it harkens back to the New Wave of the 80s. And since I still listen to Adam & the Ants and Flock of Seagulls frequently, that sits quite well with me... I also still dig some of the heavier shit I listened to before discovering Jazz (Fear Factory, Sepultura, Slayer, etc). I'll never get sick of that stuff - I can see me at 50+ and down front in the pit - yeah!!!!
  16. If anyone is interested, I have this 3 CD set and will part with it for $15 and ship it for free. I've been meaning to put it up on EBAY, but just haven't gotten around to it... I'm luke68 on ebay. Thanks, TL
  17. There is the Red Bank, NJ Jazz & Blues Festival in June, which is having some bands perform Basie tunes. I believe the festival wares (posters, shirts, etc) all have Basie's likeness on it. I emailed them a few weeks ago and said THEY BETTER BE DOING SOMETHING TO COMMEMORATE HIS 100th. Here's what I got: Tom: There are a number of activities at the Festival this year (as well as a big event at Count Basie Theatre in town later in the summer) to celebrate Count Basie's birthday. A number of the performers will be playing Count Basie tunes as a tribute (indicated on the schedule at http://www.redbankfestival.com/ent_schedule.html). See you at the Festival! So some good news in his hometown - 'BOUT TIME!!!
  18. Found a nice copy of SWING REUNION - 2 CD from Book of the Month club. This one looked like it was barely played - only $8. Great stuff with TEDDY WILSON, FREDDIE GREEN, BENNY CARTER, RED NORVO & others! WOO HOO!!!
  19. The networks are to blame because they move it around so much that the faithful have a hard time finding it. I was watching Freaks N Geeks every week when it was on Mondays, I believe, but then it was moved to Saturday night and it died. Another great show that I love is SCRUBS, but since I'm never sure when it's on, I'm missing it. And with the fucking stupid APPRENTICE around and in it's former time-slot, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up getting canned within the next year or two.
  20. Maybe he's back playing with Basie up there, who died 20 years ago today!
  21. I think the Pat Moran 2 CD set is great as are the Jack Teagarden, Stan Leven, and Howard McGhee CDs.
  22. I've got him looking for LES BROWN AT THE PALLADIUM vol 1 & 2 on CD Great guy - hope he finds the CD!!!
  23. I've got a few of the repros that are selling on Ebay (Basie, Ellington) but no antique/actual jazz posters - I'm too young and too broke! I do have some rock/alternative posters from bands I've seen in the past 15-20 years (Thrill Kill Kult, MXPX, Republica, Gigolo Aunts, SnoCore, WARPED tour, etc)
  24. I have the import 2 CD set of the Roulette material and Ronnie's a Dynamite Lady is a smokin' track. Another good one is out on Sonet - In Walked Sonny with Sonny Stitt/Art Blakey & the Messengers!
  25. How can you find out when record labels, publishing rights and other related items are up for sale/on the auction block. Not that I have the cash to dole out for something like my own record label (not until the Jeannie comes along), but wonder how the 'general' public can find out info such as this...
