  1. I agree but IIRC the music works as a film score. BTW This film is presumably why Beatty chose Penn for Bonnie and Clyde.
  2. When my friend Mike Goodwin died in Nola there was a brass band and we all became a second line.
  3. "Louis Armstrong's Black and Blues". No new information for most people on this site, but some great performance footage and interviews that I've never seen/heard before.
  4. The Last Man Standing has fallen.
  5. Happy Birthday young man!
  6. For several summers in the late '70s I lived down the street from the Alcazar. Passed it everyday. Didn't know that it had any jazz nevermind Duke.
  7. I got this when it first came out on cd so for better or for worse I tend to think of sessions rather than records.
  8. Yes. It's on the original release. Is it on that Lp?
  9. I've always liked "Musings" perhaps because it seemed a precursor to the quintet recordings. And I've always wondered why there was never a single cd release of the December 24,'54 Monk session complete with dialogue.
  10. I remember thinking it sounded like bad Santana. I like it now.
  11. Lord lists Don Byas and Lucky Thompson both on tenor on "Let's Go" (I got Rhythm). Losin lists the first Bird and Dizzy recording of Dizzy Atmosphere as early 1945. (February 28) And who knows if it was new then.
  12. Has anyone done a breakdown of the all the shots from different films? But as good as the visual montage is, the sound montage is even more spectacular it seems to me. this must have required a lot of work. Anyone know who did it?
  13. How do you add a thumbs up emoji because I want to and I'm digitally illiterate? You go to edit and the emoji roster shows up.
  14. Aren't live versions of everything always faster? (Anyone have suggestions for tunes that got slower when played live? And I'm not just talking about Miles here.)
  15. And this is one I always thought of as "Pharoah Dances". So glad I got to see him live. Saw him a few years before with McCoy Tyner but it was great to see him with his own group. Is it possible that "Promises", his last recording (the one with Floating Point) was his biggest "hit"?
  16. Thanks. I've been traveling and not always online. (And by "elsewhere" I just meant not on Lp-- I no longer have a turntable.)
  17. Sad. I just read her autobiography Tonight at Noon.
  18. Photo I took at a rock festival in 2018. And this is one I always thought of as "Pharoah Dances". So glad I got to see him live. Saw him a few years before with McCoy Tyner but it was great to see him with his own group.
  19. Does it include "Cheesecake"?
  20. I still like his album with Basie-- especially Lost in the Stars.
  21. Is the Dizzy session available elsewhere?

    Teddy Charles

How come nobody's mentioned Gil Evans's arrangements for Tentet?
  23. httpIs://storyvillerecords.bandcamp.com/album/timmes-treasures Am I the only one who didn't know about this record? (Of course I've now ordered it.)
