  1. IIRC I saw them at that same venue a few years ago on a double bill with Chico Freeman.
  2. What was the fist "New Directions in Music" Lp?
  3. Was the Bill Dixon one "Imagine the Sound"?
  4. He worked at the British Film Institute but was so discouraged with them that he gave his research to an American archive. (IIRC: Library of Congress.)
  5. Just learned from friends that David Meeker, author of Jazz on Film has died. As one friend noted his death may not get much attention with Bill Lee and Tina Turner dying near the same time. (He once gave me a signed copy of Max Kaminsky's autobiography.)
  6. First heard her in Toronto before she'd made a record. In fact the only time I met her was the night a copy of her first Lp was delivered to her at The Riverboat.
  7. I'm one of those many people who thought she'd gone too far when this was new. Now it seems really good.
  8. I agree and I feel the same way about Los Lobos.
  9. The Mosaic Select discography notes state that it is from the reunion session though it was first issued on the earlier box set. Seems like the mistake was made in adding it to the earlier box.
  10. IIRC "sacred steel" was his great passion when I met him.
  11. I presume so but I don't really know. https://www.amazon.com/music/player/albums/B09WHS8FT2
  12. I just downloaded it from Amazon and it's definitely in stereo (sax is isolated far right).
  13. "Pirates" was my favorite.
  14. I once suggested that they make it available as downloads but (IIRC) Scott responded that they didn't own those rights.
  15. I only met him once. A lovely man.
  16. I think that was in the fall. I saw him that week too (though not the night they filmed). But the amazing night was in April of that year. I wrote a review of the autumn show which is on-line somewhere. When my arm is out of it's cast I'll answer your excellent question.
  17. I used to have an Lp of the music from Allonsanfan who, unlike me, still had a turntable. According to IMDB he scored 529 films!
  18. Was that band put together for Michael Snow's film or was the film named after the band?
  19. Duke Ellington, Le Jazz Hot, Montreal 1964 and Gil Evans at a repurposed church Paris 1978.
  20. I'm stuck at an airport and can't check my collection but IIRC the Byrds box set had a version of Sweetheart of the Rodeo where they re-replaced Gram Parsons' vocals which had been removed on earlier issues.
  21. Co-incidentally I just saw his daughter Gina giving a "Moth" presentation-- mainly about her relationship with her mother, only mentioning her father obliquely and never by name. I suspect that many in the audience had no idea she was Harry's daughter. I loved Belafonte. I thought Ladysmith Black Mambosa sounded like a group pf Belafontes.
  22. Thanks everybody. I stupidly missed the Mosaic. Looks expensive on Discogs.
  23. Because of the discussions here I started to listen to Henry Threadgill on Spotify. Where have I been all his life?! I'm about to get on a plane for Paris and want to down load some music for the flight. Which of the 12 recordings offered on Bandcamp do people recommend?
