  1. There's no such thing as a "write off" except in the sense that you don't have to pay taxes on what you lose but no one is taxed at a 100% rarte.
  2. And IIRC in some rare instances there were Lps available in Canada and not the US.
  3. https://publicdomainreview.org/blog/2021/12/all-sound-recordings-prior-to-1923-will-enter-the-us-public-domain-in-2022
  4. We'll see how long that lasts.
  5. Has anyone mentioned that the new Adele release ("30") has a cut on it called "All Night Parking (with Erroll Garner) Interlude" that samples something relatively obscure -at least to me- by Garner? This may make more money for the estate than any of the recent Garner releases.
  6. I already had almost everything on this set (except of course the now unissued until JATP) but this is by far the best sounding and most complete of pretty well every session.
  7. I don't hear that except on the "alternate take". which I don't think was on the original Lp. I also like that on that alternate (take 2, I think, take 3 being the one originally issued ) Miles begins to play "Put Your Little Foot In" which becomes "Fran Dance" on their next studio date.
  8. Thanks. I just cancelled my original order and ordered this. Should arrive sooner.
  9. Hey just found the cd set on Amazon US for $38 from someone who claims to have 18 copies. I tried to copy the link but it doesn't seem to work. If you search for the cd and then scroll down past the Lp the alternate offer shows up. However you won't get it soon: " FREE delivery: Dec 22 - Jan 13".
  10. ???Examples?
  11. Tried again and got as far as giving them my card numbers but then told it was no longer available but I'd be notified when it was.
  12. Thanks.
  13. Tried. "In store only".
  14. I saw the original production of Pacific Overtures in NY while it was in previews. I was stunned by how good it was and was bragging about how we were lucky to see it when we did because once it officially opened it would be impossible to get tickets. Then it opened, got shit on by the critics and disappeared. (It was revised years later in a much smaller production and was better received.)
  15. My local record store didn't get a cd copy and Amazon is saying they're out of stock. I'd ordered it from Amazon in June but when I track the order it says "Not yet shipped We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date." I don't know whether that means they've put one aside for me but just haven't shipped it or I need to wait for another shipment. (Does that even happen with record day cds?). I don't know why I care so much-- I've got everything on it except one set that Peter Losin says isn't that good. Track package
  16. I thought he did a great job both playing piano and arranging on Jimmy Rushing's Lp "The You and Me that Used To Be".
  17. I agree. I've seen Pharoah with McCoy Tyner at the Lobero and with his own group at a rock festival. Liked him both times.
  18. Do you think the trajectory of Archie Sheep's playing has anything to tell us about "what if he had lived"?
  19. Saw the quartet in Montreal in '64 or '65. I was sitting on Elvin's side of the stage and I only heard Jimmy when he soloed. I was writing a jazz column for the McGill daily and might be able to find my review.
  20. Did anything Mancini do before Peter Gunn hint at what was coming? (All I really know is the score to A Touch of Evil which is good but which you wouldn't think was by the same guy.)
  21. With orchestra. Here's the result of my research: check March 9, 1974. http://tdwaw.ellingtonweb.ca/TDWAW.html#Yr1974 Don Georges's description of this concert is quite moving. And I was wrong that this was EKE's last public appearance-- he and the band played at least two more concerts later in the month.
  22. A long time from tonight but I just got tickets to. https://www.laphil.com/events/performances/1362/2022-01-20/symphonic-ellington-new-world-a-comin-with-gerald-clayton I might have dithered over going if it were any other piano player.
