Got the Hep 2cd Artie Shaw 1945, first impressions , excellent sound by Doug Pomeroy, not sure it sheds really much new light on Shaw for me but a fine set none the less. The few small group tracks are excellent although Little jazz is missing from 3 of the 5 Gramercy Five numbers.

My Lee/Christie arrived within 7 days - sent by surface !! Sounds very good, the Christie sides vary from excellent to just ok but the Lee sides seem uniformly excellent so far. Perfect set size too, below the $100 mark to get cheap shipping and below the 6 disc mark to avoid import duties. I would expect a 6 disc order to get clobbered by HM customs with the pound /dollar ratio at it's current level.

er ... didn't Chuck say the opposite that the Savoy issues were A/B sides trio/trio (12145) and A/B sides quartet/quartet (12146).

I'm looking to buy an "original" LP copy of Duke Jordan's Savoy MG 12145. The copy concerned has tracks by Duke's quartet on one side and his trio of the other. The only thing is that on-line discographys seems to suggest that this album ( bearing the same number) also and perhaps originally had one side of Duke Jordan's trio while the other was Hall Overton's trio. Anyone know which is correct for the original issue on Savoy (not Signal) of this material ???.

I've got too much of the Columbia on vinyl to bother with that set but I'm intrigued by the Lee/Christy set. I'd never listened to the samples until now and I'm impressed. I've grown to love the Anita O'Day set and this doesn't sound a million miles away from that, tempted........ which usually leads to .......£££. However, I need self control having got Monk's Black Lion/Vogue set on eBay yesterday.........and I still need the Braxton and also want the forth coming Louis set.......choices.....

Tried a couple of times to find a decent pressing of that one back in the day and never succeeded. Keep your eye out. I found it for $3 at a local record store quite clean, along with another great Art Hodes LP on Delmark! $5 total for those two. Mine's pretty noisy too , it's on Avan-Guard ( New Zealand) licensed from Muse, it's a nice session the noise isn't too distracting.

Another safe landing on this side of the pond , for Mitchell, Tyler and Smith.

Willis " Gator tail" Jackson In Chateauneuf -du-Pape 1980 with Groove Holmes ( Black & Blue)- groovy digitally recorded LP sounding just fine.

In Barcelona last weekend and picked up a couple of LPs on Black & Blue which fall under this heading Doc Cheatham- Hey Doc ! Charlie Shavers - Last Session both very nice swinging affairs, very nice recorded sound too.

Mary Lou Williams Trio Asch- three 78 rpm discs in a rather batter book, sounds old

Flurin I've just bought one of these Lenco 75s to play 78s and 45 rpm singles on. It needs a new arm. This site has all the possible information you could possibly want re Lenco problems, idler wheel flat would be my guess. Lenco Lovers !!

Sound is very good to my ears, I have a UK late 80s KOB, the late 90s reissue and now this set. The vinyl sounds wonderful, big sound stage lovely and clear. No Tony Williams here, to be sure. The Jazz Track session is much better than the 80s copy I have and adds extra takes.

Bobby Jaspar and Henri Renaud Quintet ( self titled) 10" Vogue (LDE 041) - UK 50s pressing of Jaspar/Renaud, Jimmy Gourlay and "Sady" (sic) on vibes... Next up Art Hodes Blues Sessions at Bluenote Vogue 10" (LDE 174). UK mid 50s ( I presume) pressing of BN material from 1944/5

Check what soundcard is being used, you probably need to change input/output sound card settings to the sound card on the TT rather than the PC's own sound card.

Just managed to revive the Dansette, built in speaker wasn't working but I managed to get some sound by hooking speaker cable to an external speaker and now enjoying said 78s. Two of them (BN 3 and 6 ) have blue/yellow Bluenote labels with 235- 7th Ave. address where as BN7 has the Lexington address, Lion must have moved a fair bit. £3 each. Currently got Mighty Blues by the POHJM

Couldn't resist picking up BN 3, 6, 7 twelve inch 78s yesterday in excellent condition. Sides by Port of Harlem, Bechet , including his famous version "Summertime". Now I need to get a second hand TT capable of playing them now that my Dansette is nearly dead. Any opinions re reasonable 78 decks- cheapness vital.

People in Sorrow- AEC- Nessa 3, wonderful recording, really benefits from my speaker upgrade, so much space around all the instruments, dead quiet vinyl too.....

i've not really had any issues with Atlantic CDs of any vintage , my Coltranes are oldies from the late 80s, I do think the WPCR series from Japan (marking the 60th anniversary) sound very good, sets I've got and enjoy in this series include .. John Lewis Piano, West Coast Wailers, Teddy Charles Tentet, Afternoon in Paris, Plenty Plenty Soul, The Prestidigitator, Jack Montrose & Bob Gordon Hear ye !!!

Presumably they've also done the Max Roach 'Freedom Now Suite' too? Saw that one in a shop for about £20 - would be interested in how it sounds. I'd forgot I had that one, a bit like the Booker, it strikes me as a good transfer on perfect vinyl , just not sure the original recording is good enough to justify the outlay, as with Booker the PP editions are only ones, of these sessions, that I've heard.

I've a couple of their Candid masterings Jazz Reunion with Pee Wee , Bob Brookmeyer , Hawk etc sounds wonderful, Booker Ervin's "That's it" sounds fine too but I suspect the original recording wasn't the very best. Pressings seem very good indeed , very quiet , nice and solid, sleeves also very tidy.

Both ordered plus Roscoe Mitchell's LRG/The Maze/S II Examples for good measure ........

I've avoided "Blue Spirit" as I had gained the impression that it wasn't up to much. Goin'Up is my fave with the opening Asiatic Raes just the business

Just spinning "Sweet Return" 1983 Atlantic amongst other Hub tones tonight. Really not at all bad with Lew Tabackin, Roy Haynes, Joanne Brackeen and Eddie Gomez.
