  1. also from 1953 and well worth hearing is "Inner Fires" on Elekra Musician. Some great albeit rather lo-fi Bud in Washington.
  2. Teo Macero- with Prestige jazz quartet- Esquire Lars Gullin- Vol 1 - Dragon
  3. The individual Cds appear to have been replaced by a 2CD set of the same material, I've only got Vol 2 which I thought was superb !!
  4. Isn't the yellowing of old paper (inc vinyl sleeves) related to oxidization of sulphuric acid used in the bleaching of the paper pulp that is used. It becomes a yellow sulphate salt of some description. So perhaps storing LPs in an pure nitrogen might help !
  5. Just received Reptet and Do this ! CDs, very nice stuff indeed, needs proper attention but first spin , very impressive

    Duke Ellington

Thanks, I think Ill see how I get on with the remaining French RCA Lps. There's a place near that gets this sort of thing in pretty often.
  7. I'm looking to add to my early EKE collection especially his RCA material So far I have Indispensible Duke Ellington Vol1/2 2LP set- 1927-29- no alternates included Blanton-Webster Years - 3 CD- sound is just about ok but not great as many will testify Complete Duke... Box 5 - 4 LPs Vol 21-24, 1946-1952 Probably easiest would be to collect the remainder of the 24 LP set I don't have and ditch the earlier compilation. I have Vol 1 of the Masters of Jazz set but it seems pointless going that route as Mosaic look to be ready to cover the Okeh/Columbia material in the upcoming Small groups box etc. The massive RCA Cd set appears to be well OOP and also well beyond budget. Was the earlier 24 LP set complete for the years 1927-1940 or were alternates /unissed titles added to the subsequent Cd set.? any thoughts
  8. Happy Birthday.... never forget the auld alliance... have a single malt
  9. Eddie Barefield RCA LP from 1973 Complete Tenessee Tooters _Hep Cd Duke Ellington- Vol 1 1925-27 - Masters of Jazz- early primative EKE but well worth hearing
  10. Just finished playing this, great session, CD issue is a little one dimensional but certainly not bad, good luck in your search.
  11. anyone heard the new Hewitt CD "Fresh From The Cooler" there are some clips on CDbaby which sound excellent...added to my list
  12. I agree with Scott, one of Adderley's lesser efforts, I tired of this pretty quickly, his earlier efforts on Riverside and Mercury are very much better.
  13. Edirol have a similar product/price edirol I've used an earlier model (UA1D) for years with great success, recording straight to HD as wav. files using Wave Repair (now with timer to allow unattended recording of FM- Jazz on 3 BBC3 Wave Repair
  14. I have some of these too and they sound great, generally better than OJCs ( although the latter are consistently good IMO)
  15. up because these guys are playing here next month. Looks good. Can't find any trace of any vinyl releases more's the pity.....
  16. I got this one recently on vinyl ( UK- Transatlantic),. It's a very good session, nicely paced and even the film themes sound greater than they ought.
  17. Really enjoying this Elvin set. Not that I'm hugely concerned but I was puzzled to note that the "Lighthouse" sessions on discs 7/8 are mastered from 16-bit mixes where as the rest is 24-bit. Wonder why , were the original tapes lost after the session came out on CD in 1990 ??? I'm not bit-mad but the live material does sound a little flat although perfectly acceptable- I presume that's more to do with the way it was recorded rather than the digital transfer.
  18. From local charty shop today Softmachine- Fourth CBS Barbara Thompson- Paraphernalia- MCA First exposure to either of these groups. The Thompson is pretty good, the Softmachine pretty amazing.
  19. For some reason I'd never really considered this set at all, not on the radar so to speak, I saw Jan Hammer's name too often and could only think of Miami Vice, ugh... .... However having had a sudden change of heart I'm more than impressed. Only listened to discs 1/5/6 so far. It's highly varied stylistically but fits very nicely together. I'm very glad I got it.
  20. Both leaders a very good players. There is a thread somewhere about McGann. Judging by the titles I guess this is a fairly mellow album ?
  21. Ornette Coleman- Empty Foxhole-BN Wally LP reissue 1994- Ornette's least loved album?- I'll find out tonight whether I agree. Bob Dylan- Modern Times 2LP
  22. Johnny Griffin The Kerry Dancers- Interdisc
  23. Wish I could help, I've never seen/heard a K2 disc. Following Chuck's praise I have had Monk's Music K2 on order since August from Caiman (via amazon.uk), some how don't think they'll come through.
  24. My Elvin/Stitt/Capitol Classics/Lang/Venuti super-tanker just came in too !!! At random Elvin disc 3
