Dorham's sound has always had very human qualities to it. Where as Brownie is unabashed joy for life, Kenny's was more searching and questioning , a major talent and a favourite.

I stand corrected. great session even if Lew and Warne didn't see eye to eye.

I'm surprised by that comment as the few Inner City LPs I have are all good pressings with a nice full sound.

I note allmusic gives most of his output a solid 2 stars...I don't know his work at all, best place to start? -
Interesting, Albany's later stuff never seems to measure up to his status as a lost bopper. As you say quite rhapsodic when I'm wanting to hear his roots.

Mike, Is this a good album? Guy I find it hard to call any album "good" or "bad" as it's all a matter of taste, beyond obvious technical/musical incompetence. Palmer is pretty much a free form organist, using just simple, often nutty heads, and then wailing. I like his style,as he takes some chances that others won't, but if you expect impro over chord changes, he might be the wrong man for you. Check out any sound sample for an impression of his style; Blythe is Blythe, playing somewhat more blues drenched with Palmer than elsewhere (there is another CD with Blythe on Audioquest); Ali plays more "time" than, say, with Trane, but is much looser than most drummers in organ combos and very interactive; John Abercrombie is the fourth man, whom I like very much with Palmer: he is on most of his albums and more daring here than usual. I find Palmer is a rare example of a B3 player engaging in free style improvisation, that's why I find him interesting, and I personally like his humour etc. It's not a free jazz record, but certainly more "free" than your average Hammond record. Sums the CD up pretty well, I like it too...

I've always hated the separation on the stereo CD of the Monk/Blakey Atlantic date, I always play the CD with the mono botton depressed !!

I can't get my DaD copy to burn to DVD correctly, no sound on the DVD , yet its there when played back on my PC using a variety of media players. Any way nice looking production, guess I'll have to view it on my PC unless any one has any helpful suggestions. I wondered if the problem was that the files are VOB but I have other Video-downloads as VOBs which seem to work fine with the same DVD burning software (PowerProducer)

Actually, it was probably '78 or '79. Did you get this new, Clunky? In other words, can I get one, too? What label is it on? MG Yeah I got it, but it's an LP - no others I'm afraid. Label is given as 51 West, which appears to be a CBS imprint. The sleeve has precious little info and even scambles the track order.
-
The sound quality is fine but it omits a track Ma from the original release and it's liner info is sloppy with sessions undated and personnel listing not exactly easy to follow as the original sessions are jumbled up. The original liners are reproduced but aren't very illuminating (Feonard Leather). I'll be happy to replace it with Dragon issues.

Hello Reinier, www.cdon.com ships to all EU locations. I have already ordered from there to Germany without any problems. You need to go through their homepage www.cdon.com and you can there select the shipping region. Cheers, Tjobbe my Swedish is non existent and even decent guessing has thwarted registration let alone buying anything, more's the pityas they have at least 4 Gullin discs not easily available else where (in the UK that is)

Don't forget Anagram Records Great Gullin Cds especially Alma Mater

Dragon have put out Volume 9 - Summertime - some overlap with the Collectable Jazz Classics 2fer I think judging by the titles. All material is I think ex Metronome.
