  2. Glasgow Jazz Festival 1994 - my photograph
  3. There is a reason for me using TC's picture as my avatar for some years now.
  4. Any pointers as where to start with this series. Vol 6 is mentioned above. Although I love EKE I can't see me buying all of these. I guess I'd look to those with fewer vocal numbers and more unusual or rarely covered material. Any thoughts
  5. Isn't that an 11-CD set? Yep, it's 11CD not 8. I'm slowly appreciating this set but I'm glad I got it cheap as it's pretty repetitive, really. Nothing wrong, but solid enough but not enough variety.
  6. Prestige Blues Swingers - Out of Town- Esquire, decent Basie like arrangements by Jerry Valentine.
  7. The Tivoli 2CD set is pretty good, swings hard and loud but she does goe all operatic-diva-like on some songs. .
  8. Prestige All-stars _ Roots Prestige OJC another blowing date with a spiritual difference ( for a few bars at least)

    Julius Watkins

This CD is very nice and not at all common. Don't miss it. Some excellent Mobe to boot. The Conn Cd was complete AFAIK
  10. Happy Birthday Garth, spin some Gullin and relax and enjoy your day..
  11. Damn, dude!!! Thanks Joe, it's been a real hassle and a bit of a trauma, but as I say no one was hurt. still no money from insurance 3 weeks later ... typical
  12. get the Hep...
  13. I've just picked up a couple of the Red Norvo Heps ( got 14 Heps in total for £30). There would I think be pretty heavy cross over with the mosaic ( not that I have it though). Bailey sings very well , not too affected and she swings. Her voice IMO transends the era better than most vocalists of her time,,ie she still sounds relevant and not too dated.
  14. Is it better than the single CD issue of this date from 1998 ( euro-digipak)
  15. My suggestion, since Linn has dropped the production of his entry level cd player. I've got one of these, had it a year. It's really, really good. CD fights vinyl pretty hard with the CD31 in my house. Really tough as you say, even poorly remastered CDs sound good. All my CDs sound so much better compared to the Marantz CD6000Se I had before. It's about £1500 which will be over budget here though.
  16. BBC radio had a very good programme on last night about the recordings Louis Armstrong. I don't have any material from one area they covered 1935 to 1947. Alyn Shipton recommended two GRP Cds of Louis Decca sides from this period. I have a few Cds from this series and they aren't so hot, sound wise. What's the best way to go here for this period of Louis ?? LP or CD either would do. I see there's a Spanish collection of these dates, any good?

    Brew Moore

I've been putting off getting the Tony Truscella set which includes the session with Brew in the vain hope that Chuck and Uptown will release it in better quality audio . I'd be interested in Chuck's view regarding the chances of this coming out. After all we've not seen an Uptown release in wee while.
  18. agreed and done ( a few days ago)
  19. . . . in 24-bit. I've been suffering through that scratchy, tinny, ear-drum-assaulting 20-bit K2 long enough. I've had this session for years on a mid 1980s Japanese Victor CD- it still sounds great ( as does the version in the Riverside Montgomery Box set)
  20. in the eastern Pyrenees the Petit Jaune Train (little yellow trian, narrow gauge , winds up the valley for about 20 miles) from Latour De Carol( sp? on Spanish border) to Villefrance Les Bain ( sp? reasonably close to Perpignan) is spectacular. Sure it's now a tourist train but it breathes life to the area
  21. I love southern France, the sheer varirty of scenery is astounding, it's bigger than you think, the roads are just fine but I'd concentrate on a small area, Barcelona to Avignon is a long drive and you're miss shed-loads as drive by. Provence is special but the Tarn gorge area is something else.
  22. this I do not understand as I've made plenty of amazon.uk purchases through the search here over the past 6 months.Perhaps it's not working correctly or do the payments appear to come from amazon.com. Either way this really surprises mes
  23. i've bought stuff from there before (not for some years though), didn't have any problems
  24. Out of town- Prestige Blues Swingers-Esquire ( 10 piece including Pepper Adams , Tiny Grimes , Fart Armer, et al. nice relaxed session....
  25. I've got this one on vinyl. Good date with a slight Latin vibe IIRC. Rich isn't too heavy handed either.
