Rudy was on vacation that day and the session was recorded by his 12 year old nephew. Someone left a beer can in the piano which can be distinctly heard by golden ear audiophiles at the 4:33 point on Bedouin and may be mistaken for a piano warble. Buddy Rich does not sound right on Blue Note.

Do you have any recommendations of local Detroit artists on the schedule?

Basically, five tracks (about 20 minutes of material) on that CD are on par (musically and soundwise) with the Savoy broadcast material--so it's a matter of your level of Bird fanaticism (Mine = Extreme) as to whether it is worth buying.

A little bit of Symphony Sid goes a long way. There is some additional Royal Roost material (not on Savoy) on a release called New Bird--Rare Live Recordings & Interviews (Swan Records).
