  10. I would go if they were playing in Dallas, but tomorrow night I can't make it to Austin.
  11. I like his newest CD, Threshold. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mikedirubbo2
  12. George Lewis and His New Orleans Stompers, volume 2 (Blue Note, W. 63rd), and The Compositions of Dizzy Gillespie (Riverside mono).
  13. Tonight, an excellent late set by the Eric Wyatt Quartet.
  14. Lobi Traore, Bwati Kono volume 1 (Kanaga System Krush).
  15. An impressive list on his website: http://www.busterwilliams.com/discography.html
  16. Some musicians I've spoken to over the years who seemed really nice--Charles Moffett Sr., Benny Carter, Jason Moran, Dannie Richmond, Buddy Guy, Zane Massey, Bern Nix, and Charles McPherson.
  17. Introducing Eric Kloss (Prestige, blue label)
  18. I too have picked up that very album (literally), thought about it, and put it back. The Patty Bown, I haven't noticed.
  19. Completed the Mosaic It Club Monk set--a finely pressed LP set, with quiet surfaces, just a great sounding collection of excellent music.
  20. Complete Monk at the It Club (Mosaic)--LP 2.
  21. Thelonious Monk, Complete Live at the It Club (Mosaic, LP 1)
  22. Listening to the Harold Mabern Trio, live right now.
  23. There's a fine audio store just three or four miles from my home, Audio Concepts, which I've patronized for the last 20 years or so. They do still exist. http://www.audioconceptsonline.com/index.php
  24. I heard him live at the Caravan of Dreams in 1989. He had a band of African musicians, except for one keyboard player from Philadelphia--saxophone, guitar, bass guitar, two keyboard players, drums--they were electrifying, one of the best bands I've ever heard--I heard four sets and that wasn't enough. It was better than any of his recordings, including Home. A few years later, he played in Dallas, with a completely different group, and it was just a decent concert.
  25. Gil Evans, America's #1 Arranger (Pacific Jazz mono), and Eddie Lockjaw Davis with Johnny Griffin, The Late Show (Prestige mono).
