  1. Sometime after J-1239 they switched to better quality covers. The Big Challenge is the only one I've seen with a photo of the band on the cover, and a really cool photo it is. (For Dallasites, there's a copy last time I checked at the big HPB.)
  2. Yes, it's very well done. A humbling experience for sure.
  3. I was looking for a discography of the label but found only this thread. These are the ones in my collection. 4. I have this LP in my backlog of not yet heard albums. Sounds like I should take a listen.
  5. Thelonious Monk at Town Hall (Riverside mono, blue label)
  6. Bill Evans--Sunday at the Village Vanguard (Riverside black label stereo) The Charlie Parker Story, volume 1 (Verve trumpet)
  7. Eddie Lockjaw Davis -- Trackin' (Prestige, blue label)
  8. They have about half of them listed as in stock on their website.
  9. As usual, a thread like this costs me money, as I didn't have the Dizzy in Berlin MPS, which has now been ordered.
  10. It's simple--since he's one of the greatest, you need to get just about all his recordings until his chops declined below a certain point (sometime after Bahaiana and Afro-Cuban Moods).
  11. You are blessed to not know!
  12. Chuck Wayne--Morning Mist (Prestige, blue label) Lucky Thompson--Happy Days Are Here Again (Prestige, blue label)
  13. Yusef Lateef--Jazz Round the World (Impulse, orange and black mono) Art Blakey--Mosaic (Blue Note, NY USA mono)
  14. Bernard Allison at Pearl on Commerce. While not comparable to his father on guitar, he is pretty good and is a nice singer who plays mostly original material. The band was strong, featuring tenor saxophone as much as guitar, and the tenor player (didn't catch his name) played rather well. The drummer has chops way beyond what I expect in a blues band. Overall, quite enjoyable.
  15. Coltrane Live at Birdland (Impulse, orange and black) Coleman Hawkins, Today and Now (Impulse, red and black)
  16. Avery Sharpe Trio Live James Blood Ulmer--In and Out Dave Burrell--Recital Miles Davis--German Concerts
  17. I saw the trio of Ron Carter, Russell Malone and Mulgrew Miller at the Blue Note last fall--I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the group.
  18. Meade Lux Lewis and Louis Belson (Clef) Lou Donaldson--Cole Slaw (Argo)
  19. Bud Powell--Strictly Powell (RCA black dog)
  20. Hamp and Getz (Norgan, yellow trumpet label)
  21. Stan Getz at the Shrine (Norgran yellow trumpet label). The box is a bit beaten up, but the vinyl is in close to near mint shape--wonderful sound. Includes a nice booklet of photos of Getz.
  22. Oliver Nelson--Afro American Sketches (Prestige, silver and black) Oscar Peterson Plays Richard Rogers (Clef trumpet)
  23. Houston, Austin, San Antonio but no Dallas.
  24. Mingus Three (Jubliee)
  25. It was a pleasure to meet you. Don't forget to get that Zani Diabate CD.
