I like Red Clay the best (for the spectacular title cut), then Keep Your Soul Together (I think you are underappreciating this one), then First Light (again mostly for the title track).
Savant is the sister label to High Note.
They are actually more like the successor to the Muse label.
In addition to excellent recordings by Charles Earland and Melvin Sparks, I like all of their David Fathead Newman recordings, also I have a really good James Spaudling record on the label (The Smile of the Serpent), and two really terrific Carlos Garnett recordings.
There are quite a few others I would like to hear. These are two of my favorite current independent jazz labels.
No but since they don't release anything but anthologies and recordings that have been reissued over and over again, I would imagine it's an anthology of his recordings on Prestige as a leader.
found, bought and listened to the moondoc. quit enjoyable, thanks!!!
now if only i could find the george adams!
Did you ever find the George Adams? I picked it up on vinyl when it first came out. It's really worth searching for!
I believe that George Adams, Paradise Space Shuttle is available on CD from Timeless.
His last release, as far as I can find, was in 2002, Chico Freeman e Guataca, Oh By the Way.
Not as good as The Emissary, but still has some nice tracks on it.
The Emissary, on the Clarity label, is very well recorded.
Tradition in Transition on the Elektra Musician label (from around 1982) is an early favorite of mine.
Diverging a bit from straight ahead jazz into jazz/world fusion, the more recent recording The Emissary is excellent.
A couple of years ago, I saw Chico Freeman with Geri Allen, Richard Davis, and Andrew Cyrille at Jazz Standard.
