  1. hAggie Birthday! I'm in the midst of a long road trip so I'm not keeping up w/the board as well as usual, sorry to be late! Here's to having a great day with many more to come!
  2. I'm currently in St. Louis, and I slept right through it. Not surprising for me, though......
  3. Absolutely wonderful. :tup
  4. Apply directly to the forehead.
  5. Anagram for Traverse City = "Static Revery" Also on the list, #456: "Traverse City"
  6. Wish I could have made the hang tonight. Looking forward to hearing about it! Do tell.................
  7. One my favorite examples of Freddie on flugel is his performance of "A Child is Born" on the recording Mel Lewis and Friends.
  8. Hapzaro Birthdega!!
  9. I've always loved that "Hub of Hubbard" session. Freddie's harmon mute solo on Blues for Duane is a favorite.
  10. Speaking of those Keystone Bop sides, Billy Childs was just in town and did a clinic at FSU. He's a very talented writer and has some beautiful pieces composed for various brass, woodwind and string chamber groups. I've always enjoyed his playing, very tasty and refined.
  11. Obviously there are many great jazz artists who were less-than-stellar human beings, but the music they create presents a sense of the fragile/intense/sentimental aspects of their personality. I think of Freddie this way as well as Miles. I've met many of my idols who were less than friendly, although I often attribute this to the circumstances of the moment and not necessarily that it was an accurate reprsentation of their personality. After learning about the dark side of people like Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Frank Rosolino and others I'm not going to stop listening to their music because IMO that was often some of the only beauty that existed in their lives. I don't mind that some don't like Freddie. But I grew up listening to his music from both the Blue Note and CTI eras, and it still makes me smile. So scratch away! guess you misunderstood: i love freddie and his music and i have for a very long time! I did understand your love of Freddie. I guess I didn't understand what you meant by your comment, and for that I apologize. Please explain further!

  13. I hear what you're saying, RT, but Freddie w/o the delivery system of his distinctive trumpet sound just wouldn't make it for me. That sound and his mastery of that beastly instrument is the whole enchilada IMO. On EVI he becomes "anonymous jazz dude". That's why it breaks my heart to hear him struggle. The Freddie I've loved over the years was invincible. And I just might have to place him in my top five- that's a tough choice to make. He's impressed me over the years not just with his technical chops, but also as someone who transcends the instrument and projects his humanity, like Miles.
  14. Not necessarily a definitive source, but IIRC isn't it also on the Cannonball Aebersold play-along? I mean, if all you need is a lead sheet....
  15. It was on my doorstep when I came home today. Always a special day when there's a Mosaic waiting for you when you come home.
  16. Wow, I totally forgot that Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland were on this! Actually, I've been performing "Remember" lately, it's an interesting tune. This really is a wonderful recording.
  17. Yes, that's the bottom line. Good luck!
  18. Hopefully traveling on it as opposed to lying unconscious on it.
  19. We'll be hitting that one soon on our live chat hang. Conn has it.
  20. From Austin to Ft. Wayne? Bring/purchase: - cold weather clothing - snow shovel - scraper - lots of alcohol Not sure if there's any decent Mexican/BBQ there. Survey says maybe not so much. Good luck. The lure of steady employment takes us to new and interesting places we might not have otherwise explored, no? (I speak from experience here) Better potential opportunities to see Organissimo, though.
  21. Just ordered a copy from Amazon. It's funny, the description said "never read". That's harsh! It will become "read" soon, though!
