  1. I hope things are OK my friend!
  2. Ah, the sweating milk bottles. All is good with the world now.
  3. Not quite yet, but #50 is looming close and taunting me with promises of the requisite colon invasion recommended for those of my age. Happy MF Birthday. Now bend over and STFU! Edit: I'm now single and not getting laid any time in the forseeable future, but the medical community is about to get carte blanche to violate me at will, and I don't even get dinner in the deal. Life is grand, ain't it?
  4. Ah, the F melodic minor scale in all its ascending/descending glory. In bass clef, no less. The ascending form gives us two wonderful and highly useful modes, the diminished whole tone and the lydian dominant. There will be a quiz.
  5. Chris is such a show-off.
  6. And what's the deal with airline peanuts?
  7. Especially for a guy who looks like he weighs about 150, with a 34 inch chest. Though I guess the less you weigh, the less challenge it is to your muscles but that is probably offset by the increasing tug of gravity at that height. It really goes beyond everyday stupidity. Gravity doesn't increase with height (the gravitational pull of the earth is actually incrementally weaker up there, since it is an inverse square law). Maybe I just assumed that gravity is stronger, since its looking at you up there, mocking it, and thinking HEY, you're supposed to be down here on the ground! Gravity is mocking me too, Dan. And I'm positive that the squirrels are also mocking me. And the birds. And that guy in the car behind me. And the check-out girl in the grocery store. They're ALL mocking me! Well, soon I'll show them all!
  8. H a p p y B i r t h d a y ! ! ! ....and many more!!
  9. I've been listening to a lot of the New Testament band lately, including the Mosaic box. I'll always love this one, though. Great charts and a great band. Discovering a previously-unheard Basie side is one of the great pleasures of life. :rsmile:
  10. That's what I do. (cue Chuck)
  11. NY, LA, Vegas and LANSING! It's a MF DREAM vacation! Welcome to the forum, dom!
  12. I just got an email that my order has shipped. That was fast!
  13. previous thread Thanks for the heads up, we've been talking about this. I just got an email that my order shipped.
  14. Someone sent this to me, just thought I'd pass it on. I've heard him several times w/Matt Wilson, he's a wonderful player. So sorry to hear about this. SAXOPHONIST ANDREW D'ANGELO HAS BRAIN TUMOR On Friday, January 25, 2008 world-renowned saxophonist/composer Andrew D'Angelo suffered a major seizure while driving in Brooklyn, NY. Tests in the hospital revealed a large tumor in his brain. Andrew will undergo brain surgery at some point in the next few weeks. At this time, it is believed that the tumor is not cancerous, but this will not be confirmed until a biopsy is performed. Like many Americans, Andrew has no health insurance. A fund has been established to help with the costs of his surgery and recovery. Donations can be sent via PayPal to donate@andrewdangelo.com. We deeply appreciate any efforts that can be made to spread the word about Andrew's situation. Benefit concerts are currently being planned for New York City and Boston. More information about these concerts will be posted on www.andrewdangelo.com as soon as it is available. Andrew D'Angelo, born 1966 in Seattle, Washington is one of the key members of Brooklyn's avant-garde jazz community. His work as a composer, performer, and bandleader has been a pivotal influence on his peers, as well as on younger generations of musicians. Andrew first achieved worldwide notoriety as a member of Human Feel with his longtime friends Jim Black, Chris Speed, and Kurt Rosenwinkel. After moving to Brooklyn in 1986 he joined the downtown music community centered around the Knitting Factory, working with musicians like Mark Dresser, Erik Friedlander, Bobby Previte, and many other leading artists. He is also currently a member of the Matt Wilson Quartet and Hilmar Jensson's band Tyft. Skirl Records released "Skadra Degis," the debut of Andrew's trio with Jim Black and Trevor Dunn on January 31, 2008. For more information, please visit www.andrewdangelo.com. Please take a moment to sign Andrew's guestbook and wish him well.
  15. I picked up this box some time ago (I think based on a rec from this board) and have enjoyed it quite a bit.
  16. I saw him and his bands perform many times at various jazz festivals when I was living in Austin in the 80s. Those bands were swinging hard and played with a ton of energy and spirit. RIP
  17. "El Presidente" from the Gerald Wilson box.
  18. Who in all the world is so seriously ill? More information, please! Wes "Warmdaddy" Anderson had a stroke last year. He's recovering well, I heard last Summer. He was just in town a couple weeks ago. He seems to have fully recovered.
  19. I guess we should not exclude Sam Peckinpah and his slo-mo violence..... The Wild Bunch Straw Dogs The Getaway The Osterman Weekend ....and the classic "Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia"!
  20. Agreed. This one of my favorite KD sides. Type here, GA!
  21. I think the two-week break does more to hurt than help. Sure, the players get a chance to heal up some, but I think they get inside their own heads too much, which is magnified by the media hype and scrutiny. I think the same thing about the NCAA championship game- too much time off. Yes, both teams had to deal with the time off, but the pressure was on the Pats to "fulfill their destiny" and I'm not sure if they were overconfident or unsure of themselves. They were most certainly NOT the team that won the first 18 games! I think the media has definitely gone from reporting the news to creating the news, in politics, sports and pop culture. I can't imagine living under that microscope. Thank goodness I'm a trombone-playing jazz musician, I'll never have to endure that!* *also left-handed My people:
  22. Lucky for you your solo worked over those changes!
  23. Etienne was a student at FSU before my time, but he's been back from time to time, and IMHO he shows great promise. Same with Alphonso who is currently a student and is still in the process of finding his own voice. I'm sure playing this gig was a huge learning experience for him. As is typical with young players there is often too much focus on the flashy technique & ornamentation part of playing the horn and too little on content/continuity/relevance in their improvisation; one hopes guidance, experience & time (maturity) will teach them otherwise.
