  1. Wow. Dallas must have some kind of guardian angel!
  2. Happy Birthday Tom!
  3. Kenny Wheeler "Music for Large and Small Ensembles" comes to mind immediately. One of my favorite Kenny sides, just beautiful ensemble writing. There is a book containing several scores from this recordong published by Advance Music. EDIT: Also, the Mulligan Concert Jazz Band. Many small group soloists in the context of a larger ensemble.
  4. NE @ Dallas, October 14th NE @ Indy, November 4th Looking forward to those games. Plus Green Bay goes to Dallas sometime soon. EDIT: I was surprised at the Packers/Bears game- I would have predicted GB was going to win easily. The Packers looked flat and uninspired tonight, the Bears came to play (in spite of their weaknesses). GB's last drive was really poorly done.
  5. I'll slip him a note in study hall.
  6. Several good games this weekend. Florida-LSU and Texas-OU were both good good ones. More upsets, too! Wisconsin and USC go down. This has been the craziest season I think I've ever seen.
  7. I picked up some of the habanero Tabasco today. It definitely brings some heat (I'm battling a cold and cough and this stuff really does help clear the sinuses). The box listed the habanero as ranging from 7000-8000 Scoville units (the measure of capsacin), regular Tabasco as 2500-5000 and the chipotle as 2000-2500. I have no desire to try any of that million-Scoville-unit stuff I hear about.
  8. Then you wrap the whole thing in ductape and.......
  9. Happy Birthday MG! Hope it's a good one!
  10. Happy Birthday Glenn! Hope you're getting some preferential treatment today!
  11. You talking about this guy? What show was he on? (mmmmmmmmmm.....DOUGHNUTS!)
  12. I think it's bit of an apples-and-oranges thing. Many of the current shows sort of stand on the shoulders of the earlier shows. I remember seeing the early SNL shows when they were first broadcast- at the time they were contemporary and cutting edge, very much like the Monty Python series of the same time. Now when I see the reruns they seem much more tame and dated, although still with some great moments. I think the loosening of what gets by the censors has helped too- the fact that broadcast TV has to compete with the uncensored cable networks has definitely had an influence there. The older shows paved the way for current ones- just think of some of those old Richard Pryor routines (on TV and in his movies) and the controversial nature of some of his material. We don't blink an eye at stuff like that anyomore. The 70s shows were a reflection of the times, and times are very different now, so many of those shows haven't aged so well. I watch some of the old shows (lately things like St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues [80s shows, I know]) because they are period pieces and a reflection of an era to which I had a connection. I can see where people who weren't around then might have less interest.
  13. "Chuck Nessa" Man, that one just slays me!
  14. Hey, these days that's enough to win an Emmy. EDIT: Speaking of SNL, this made me think of "Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer". Man, I miss Phil Hartman.
  15. I can see this show reaching ***PREMISE OVERLOAD*** pretty quickly., like pretty much any movie based on a SNL sketch.
  16. Premonition perhaps?
  17. Mmmmmmmmm...........
  18. Cholula also makes dry seasonings that are very good. Besides the Chili Lime there's also an Original flavor.
  19. The smoked jalapeno flavor isn't for everybody, but I like it on grilled chicken wings and also put a bit in my chili and enchilada sauce, to name a couple uses.
  20. New flavor, also very tasty.
  21. Not super hot, but very tasty.
  22. 10/3/07 Happy birthday Vonski!
  23. Perhaps you need to try something else!
  24. I'll certainly think good thoughts for him. He has contributed so much great music over the years (I first thought of Woody Shaw's Blackstone Legacy and his great tune Think On Me). Also many of Dexter's 70s recordings, Joe Farrell's Sonic Text and many others. All the best to him, hope he's back on his feet soon! EDIT: Oh yeah, all the Art Pepper Vanguard stuff. Great music, that.
